You are the parent of a 16-year-old boy. You come home and find the door ajar. Inside, you discover your son’s friend looking in a kitchen drawer. He says he is trying to leave your son a note. On the counter next to him is a lock pick and some of your jewelry. The boy smells of marijuana. You tell the boy to leave immediately and he does. Do you call the police, call the boy’s parents, tell your son, or do something else? Write a 1,400- to 2,100-word paper, explaining your response. Format your paper consistent withAPA guidelines. I am the parent of a boy who is 16 years old. One day I came home to find that his friend was inside our home when no one was home. The door was ajar and I walked inside to find a friend of my …show more content…
After my suggestion that the boy leave and with his immediate compliance I am less of an optimist as to his reasoning for seemingly breaking into my home. From this point a decision needs to be made. Does that decision involve informing the police? This is one that I am still unsure of. The boy is a friend of my son and to my knowledge has never been in any sort of trouble of this nature whatsoever. If I choose to involve the police in a matter that a simple conversation or directional advice may correct the implications of the consequences that this could lead to for the boy’s future could be dire. I would say that at this point in time we make a decision to not include the police because this seems like a rash and hasty decision. The boy is still a child and a child will make mistakes. If we abandon the child at the first mistake they make then the child could be lost forever. To include the police immediately would seem like a way to discourage the child instead of guiding him. The boy could have personal circumstances or troubles that he simply needs help with. To rush to involve the police in a matter that could easily be solved with a conversation or extending a hand to help seems like an unwise choice. For this reason, we do not involve the police
You should report anything suspicious to the safeguarding officer. Try and make a full report of what the child has said to you. Never tell them it will be ok.
Take emergency action if children are in immediate danger – this may involve removing the child from the situation or alternatively removing the perpetrator
I choose scenario B and I would tell my partner that I am sorry but I cannot do that, it is illegal in the state and I can’t put my job on the line for this. I very sorry for what he and his wife are going through but doing this is wrong and there is other ways to get help for her pain. I would also tell him that I would help in any other way but this is not the way to do it and talk to him on what they have and have not done and maybe give him more information on what he has not done so they can go this way and not worry about our jobs being on the line. I would also tell him that I can’t arrest him just for speeding and there would be questions on why I arrested him and soon or later they would figure out what happen. I am not going to fake an arrest for him it’s not fair to anyone and the guy would know that we took the marijuana and turn us in, because they do not play with their drugs and that is another way we can get caught and then if you get caught what will happen to your wife.
Social services,if the child concerned is in care their social worker must be informed immediately.
* The parent/carer are normally the first point of contact, except where the Local Safeguarding Children Board does not allow this. This is usually the case where the parent is the likely abuser. In these cases the investigating officers will inform
Authorities declined to seek charges against the boy, saying there was no evidence he intended to cause alarm. They said he 's free to retrieve his clock at the police
If it is found that the child may be at risk of harm or abuse social workers will:
I spoke to Rob Bettinger who stated someone had broke into his home. Rob stated the only thing missing was a envelope with $700.00 dollars in a dresser in the master bedrooom. Rob stated nothing else in the home had been touched or messed with. Rob stated the suspect used something to force open the door from the garge into the home. I noticed the door was broken and the lock was in the floor of the home. I took photos of the damage to the door and place into evidence.
Reporter states that the local field office is already aware of this. Although mother was arrested for possession of meth, minor was not with mother at the time of the arrest. Mother denies that she has used any substances around minor or taken her anywhere to purchase substances. Minor reported looking under the bathroom door and observing mom sniffing white powder. Minor reported mother had overdosed in the bathroom, but when law enforcement was called, there was no evidence of drug use observed in the home. Mother did admit to buying needles at Walgreens, but denies that minor had access to those needles. Minor did report that she had observed the needles in a vent in their home. CPS observed all vents, particularly in mother's bedroom, and did not observe that minor would have easy access to the needles as the vent was bolted and the vents were located close to the ceiling which would make it hard for a child to access

It was the first Sunday of December morning when my father asked me to take some boxes to the basement, I had never been down there, as a kid I always thought it was scary, but know as a 19-year-old guy, how could I say no. I went downstairs with a couple of boxes, but could not find any place to put them. The area was a mess, so I decided that I would organize every box that was there. While I was organizing, I notice this one box hidden in the back, so, I decided to open it. Inside the box, there was a newspaper and a couple of burnt pictures. Therefore, I decided to read the article, I could not understand much, it was an 18 years old newspaper, but it talked about a burning house with two twin babies, It said that one had been saved with no harm while the other one was rescued later on with severe burn mark. It was a miracle that other baby had survived, they called him miracle Carlos, and his brother Richard. I stood there for a second before my brain processed

over night Adrian flew to Des Moines, got into the airport's terminal around half an hour before midnight and waited for his morning connecting flight. Him and Ronela were exchanging text messages throughout the night. During the wee hours of the morning, it seemed to him like everyone had left the place, the place was deserted, a ghost town where my son (16 years old) was left completely alone in the terminal..when the temperature dropped..., "I was very cold, I put on everything I had, my sweater and jacket, hat and still was very cold"said Adrian. At a time a lonely janitor passed by and " I tried to talk to him" He said to me through the phone "where is everybody?" Adrian asked him, "I don't know" was his only answer. It's hard to believe, as a father it brakes my heart, no one cared, no one looked around to see a 16 years old boy left there by himself, everybody went home or in their own cocoon... I would expect in a situation like that, someone should have looked around, ask about his whereabouts, put him in a lounge or a smaller room with some other people. How would you feel having someone close to you completely worried, isolated and scared... not to mention this boy is my son. I was heart broken and very sad...
The boy did commit the crime so he should face some punishment for his action however he should not treated as an adult because of the circumstance of his age. It can be assuming
