8th Grade Summary Essay 8th grade has been a hell of a ride, I went through ups and downs, met new people, learned new things, and finally finished middle school. But along this hellish ride I encountered many challenges (and sorta solved them). I learned life lessons and had people help me along the way, I achieved goals that I set for myself. Most importantly, I learned many methods from AVID that I hope I will always use and take advantage of. Without AVID I would probably not care about my grades so much as much as I do now.

These men, Hamilton, Burr, Jefferson, Franklin, Washington, Adams, and Madison, were important contributors to development of our country in many ways. Hamilton had tried to push policies, funding and assumption, in order to fix America’s debt problem with foreign and domestic debt and restoring America’s credit with European bankers. His policy for funding was passed, which also gave bonds that were given to soldiers but were now in rich peoples’ hands, credit. Burr was known as the father of modern political campaigning, as he helped drum up support for Jefferson during their run for the presidency. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were two important presidents who had an enormous affect on our nation’s stable government and beginning years of our country. Each made their unique contributions to a new government under the Constitution after the failed adoption of the Articles of Confederation. After the war for independence, the Articles of Confederation, began to fail because there was no direct effective way to to collect revenue, to much power was given to the states, and Congress did not have a lot of power. Historical figures, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, helped establish a stable government for their citizens.

In America’s time there have been many great men who have spent their lives creating this great country. Men such as George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson fit these roles. They are deemed America’s “founding fathers” and laid the support for the most powerful country in history. However, one more man deserves his name to be etched into this list. His name was John Marshall, who decided case after case during his role as Chief Justice that has left an everlasting mark on today’s judiciary, and even society itself. As our nation’s third president, first secretary of state and author Thomas Jefferson has been apprehended as a man that had a major impact on American History. Thomas Jefferson was an influential person that changed America for the best. His actions created a major change in the U.S. and still continue to change America Today. Thomas Jefferson had reasons for what he was trying to accomplish and he knew it would benefit America in the future. I believe Thomas Jefferson had a major impact on American history by purchasing the Louisiana Territory, writing the Declaration Of Independents and Passing the statute of Religious Freedom.

George Washington was our country’s very first president. He lead America to countless victories. He was a strong leader, even during difficult times. He was a very key part of the start of our nation. He was humble about his services, and had many strong values. George Washington’s life, political views, and modern day influences are important.

There were many founding fathers of the constitution. Men who significantly impacted and shaped our government. Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, James Madison, and Benjamin Franklin are a few. However, we will focus on Benjamin Franklin because he contributed a great amount to our government. The Declaration of Independence, American Revolution, and the creation of the Constitution are his contributions to the government.

Few individuals have left as prominent a mark on the United States as Chief Justice John Marshall. An ardent Federalist, he worked throughout most of his life to separate the powers of national and state government, furthering the agenda of his party long after they dissolved.

Most Americans know who the founding fathers are. But, not many know what they have done for us and how hard they have worked to be a part of the American Revolution. Subconsciously, each of these men had a great impact on the revolution that started this country. Thomas Jefferson loved education and was well known for being the true author of the Declaration of Independence and for his wisdom. Benjamin Franklin, respectfully known as a diplomat, was also known as a great inventor, printer, and writer. Thomas Paine was a spectacular journalist who is best known for his anonymous pamphlet called “Common Sense.” Through these great men, our country rose.

The establishment of one of the most influential powers of the Supreme Court--the power of judicial review-- and the development of the judicial branch can be attributed to Marshall’s insightful interpretation of the Constitution ("The Marshall Court”).

However, many overlook the contributions of the fourth President of the United States. Before he took office as Commander-in-Chief in 1809, he made a great deal of contribution to the American government as most know it today. An argument can be made that James Madison was the most influential of our founding fathers through him promoting the United States Constitution for ratification through the writing of the Federalist Papers, drafting as well as promoting the inclusion of a Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution, as well as being responsible for the creation of what is known today as the Republican Political Party.

Around the 1800’s, John Marshall played an important role in the society. He was the decision maker at court, allowing him more power over the law. Many people believe that the things that Marshall did, were wrong. But according to the following documents, either he was forced to do the things he did, or people may have misinterpreted his intentions from the start. From since he was appointed by the court all they way up until he retired and died.

The two most influential leaders in United States history, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, took a significant role in the adoption of the Constitution. These leaders were Founding Fathers, but they took very different approaches to the Constitution and how it should have been perceived. As the United States began to adopt an official Constitution, Founding Fathers Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson each had different positions where Hamilton was much more lenient with his position of the constitution, while Jefferson’s ideas were much more logical and stringent with the principles of the Constitution and how people perceived them.

The Marshall Court has left numerous legacies in place in order to help establish this great nation. Chief Justice Marshall was a man that had many impacts on our Government from strengthening the authority of the Supreme Court in Marbury v. Madison, which gave the courts judicial review, to Gibbons v. Ogden, which gave the national government undeniable power over interstate commerce by ruling a New York steamboat monopoly invalid. There were many other cases as well that were important to the government’s growth; such as Fletcher v. Peck that made it where a state law can never overthrow anything that came against the Federal Constitution. Chief Justice Marshall presided over many cases and ruled over such cases in a way that he felt would benefit the ever growing American nation. Through it all he helped establish three legacies; helping to make the federal government supreme over all things that would control the economy, he also helped to open the pathway where there’s an increased federal part to be played in economic growth, and finally in an effort to further any and all new industrial capitalist economy, he helped to make permanent protection for corporations and private businesses so that the states couldn’t interfere. If Marshall’s actions were iconic, then after the Marbury v. Madison case, he would have been credited with the creation of judicial review. In reality, Marshall’s decision of allowing the courts to review the decisions of the legislative and executive branches was seen “as only a step in the continuous clarification of the theory of judicial function”(Clinton 117). So this supposed creator of a pivotal Judicial component was only seen as a stepping stone. Through the remainder of Marshall’s career as Chief Justice, no one revisited his thoughts on the Marbury v. Madison case, until his successor, Roger Taney, did in Dred Scott v. Sanford. Roger Taney seemed to have the same viewpoints as Marshall, always trying to keep the checks and balances intact and equal. He kept this dedication through the Dred Scott v. Sandford case, using judicial review to rule the Missouri Compromise of 1820 unconstitutional.
