Hippies have forever changed the fashion world. Huge designers like Coco Chanel and Emilio Pucci continue to create new works inspired by what the hippies wore. Hippies believed fashion was all about wearing what you love. The very existence of hippies went against society norms; they were all about going against what society told them they had to be and was just about being yourself. However, typical items you could find hippies wearing included homemade beads, tie-dye clothes, headbands, and most women began wearing what men typically wore like jeans, but also loved flower print items. Before this time, women would never wear jeans, but today it’s common to find women in jeans, just like men used to wear.

People may say that the true years of fashion began in the late nineteen forties and went on through the early nineteen sixties. If you look at fashion today, its almost repeated the look from sixty years ago. Did you know One of the big fads in the 1960’s was the ouija board, but why was it a big fafd if it was a bad fad?, why, because they could talk to spirits and everyone thought it was cool. I also thought that it would be pretty fun to do this one because my friend has tried it before and i wanted to see what all it was about, but once i found out what it was about i told my page that one of the bigest fads was one of the worst fads that you could ever do and maybe people will soon stop playing with the Ouija board and insted of playing with the ouija board and start playing regular board games and with other stuff. In the 1950’s womens fashion was very modern day. With the men back from war the women made sure that their clothing was very suburban as a role in homemakers. A lot of different clothing came into the picture. Sports wear became very popular also. Women started to wear what’s called a poodle skirt but this skirt went very quickly. Jack Kerouac who was a novelist established the beatnik look. This look was a finished dark color look to set the women a part so all the women didn’t look like they were wearing the same color. The teenagers started to dress very efficiently, more casually than their parents. Teenagers wore: full skirts, petticoats, or a super-slim skirt and sweater with bows. A lot of the teenage outfits varied.

Clothing from French designers like Balenciaga and Dior were worn by women in high society. Important figures like Jacquie Kennedy began to support less formal clothes, for example, things like shorter skirts. Fewer people now wore frill like caps and gloves.

Postwar rations on all items used to make clothing lifted and so clothing was produced freely and hence we could find a broad range of style in women’s attire. Early 1950s saw poddle skirts, modest white blouses with black and white oxford shoes for younger ones. Hooded dress to a skirt worn over a stiff crinoline petticoat was fashionable. Hats and gloves were used for social functions and religious ceremonies. Stilettos became popular when movie stars like Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield and Sophia Loren wore them.
