“No social stability without individual stability”(105). Some claim that a society cannot be stable as long as the people in it have individuality. In the novel Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the World State make sacrifices in order to establish stability. The things that they sacrifice are what the society of the United States is built upon. There is only one similarity between the two, both are run based on a hierarchy. Despite the single similarity everything else is different, including there is no way for people to move between the classes and there is no such thing emotion. The definition of a hierarchy is a system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other according to status or authority in a society. The World State uses a caste system. A caste system is a class structure that is determined by birth. Loosely, it means that if you are born into a lower class then you will be in that class forever. In a caste system whichever class you are born into is the class you remain in for the rest of your life. The class you are placed in is decided by the government, not family. “Everyone works for everyone else. We can’t do without any one. Even Epsilons are useful. We couldn’t do without Epsilons. Everyone works for everyone else. We can’t do without anyone”()Due to the fact that everybody in the World State is conceived and birthed in a lab. Depending on how much oxygen the embryo gets and what the child is sleep taught, decides in which class the person will be in. The class that a person is in will determine which jobs they'll do. Each and every job in the World State matters and must be completed correctly and efficiently in order for society to run smoothly. However, in the United States we may be born into a certain class due to family, but depending on our life choices we can move between the classes
