Have you ever read a book and then saw the movie? A Christmas Carol was a novel made into a movie. The novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens in 1843 is about a character named Scrooge who is very greedy. The setting is during Christmas season during the 1800’s in London, England. These movies were comparable to the novel. The novel A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens in 1843 is similar to the movie A Christmas Carol directed by Clive Donner in 1984. Good! The movie and novel A Christmas Carol are both similar in plot. In both, Scrooge starts off noticing a face of his old coworker named Marley …show more content…
For example, in both, Scrooge starts off as a grumpy, greedy man but becomes a charitable person. The novel and the movie each portray Scrooge as a tall, dark, and scary man. The stories each characterize the ghosts in the same way. The ghost of Jacob Marley arrives with chains around his body and acts furious. Then, the Ghost of Christmas Past was a light, gentle girl. The Ghost of Christmas Present was a large, jolly man. The final ghost was mysterious in each of the stories as well. Additionally, the character Fred, who is Scrooge’s nephew, is illustrated as an inviting man to Scrooge. “Don’t be angry, Uncle. Come! Dine with us tomorrow.” (Dicken page # 7). They show him having a kind and friendly mien (good word choice). Finally, there is Bob Cratchit. The descriptions say Bob is a poor, happy fellow. Bob and his kind family are shown as being thankful. From these similarities it is confirmed that the characters in the book and film are similar to each other. Nicely
I thought that the movie “A Christmas Carol” was better than the book. Movies provide better action and visual pictures. When watching a DVD you can actually see what is happening in the story and plot. When you read a book you have to use your imagination and visualize what's happening in your head. Although some movies can change the plot and sequencing of the original book, it is still fun to watch the movie and see how different or similar they are.
A Christmas Carol is the classic story by Charles Dickens about the transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge. He is guided by three spirits, as they conduct him on his travels through time, teaching him to move beyond his earlier cruelty and hatred of mankind. With the guidance of the spirits, Scrooge learns the true meaning of family, love and Christmas. The spirits all influenced Scrooge in unique ways and taught him different lessons. The spirit that was the most significant in Scrooge’s transformation was the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.
If “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens and the movie inspired by the book, “A Christmas Carol” by Jim Carrey can be different, but the same plot, then imagine how many other movies inspired by books out there that are the same way! Though both forms of literature are based off of the same plot, they do have their fair share of differences and similarities like any other adaption to a book. Even if it’s the slightest bit changed, it still will stick out like a sore thumb! It’s crazy how similar and different the book and movie can be at the same
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol was first published in London on the 19th of December 1843, the novella was instantly popular and still is to this day. Dickens inspiration for the short story seems to come from his childhood experiences and his sympathy for the poor. In the story a miserable old man, Ebenezer Scrooge, is shown the error of his ways and what will come of it if he doesn’t make drastic changes. Various ghosts and spirits slowly transform him into a kinder more pleasant man. A Christmas Carol is a powerful novella that uses symbolism like the children Ignorance and Want, Scrooge’s transformation, and Scrooges nephew Fred, to reinforce significant themes like social isolation, rebirth, and family.

“A Christmas Carol (2009)” is a 2009 Disney film adaptation of the Charles Dickens novella of the same name. It is directed by Robert Zemeckis and made by using Motion Capture. The movie is talking about a crotchety miser named Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge is an old man and he has a partner Jacob Marley who died in 7 years ago. One difference in the movie was that the Ghost of Christmas yet to come has a hand of skin. Not a hand without skin that was wrote in the book. I think that this makes a difference though because it doesn't show a big impact on the story. I think Charles Dickens put the skinless hand in his story to give his story a "chill-factor". I don't think that the director of the movie version of A Christmas Carol thought that it was a big deal or a big impact to the rest of the story. Another difference between book and movie is that Scrooge doesn't go to church at the end of the story. I think it makes a big difference though, because it shows how much Scrooge has changed since the three spirits came to visit him. It shows a before and after effect which I think made a big impact on the story. The last significant change between the book and the movie is that when Scrooge follows the Ghost of Christmas yet to come, he ends up falling into his grave. This is significant because Scrooge gets to meet the old Scrooge and gives him a slap in the face of reality of what's going to happen if things don't change. It's ironic too because it's the new Scrooge that wakes up on the bed in the morning.
“Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.”( Erich Fromm) In the story, A Christmas Carol, By Charles Dickens. The main character is a greedy man named Ebenezer Scrooge who has no Christmas spirit. Scrooge starts off in the story with no joy in his life. He is then visited by the ghost of his former coworker, who says that the Scrooge will be visited by three spirits who show him the past, present, and the future. There are many similarities between the drama and the movie.
From the story, “A Christmas Carol”, to the movie, “Scrooged”, there are many similarities and differences in the characters, symbols and even plot although much of it is due to the change in setting from the early 1840’s to the late 1980’s. Beginning with characters, Ebenezer Scrooge carries his overall theme of generosity or lack thereof into the movie where he is referred to as Frank Cross. Cross shows this in his Christmas gifts that he gives out to family and employees which happen to be no more than a fluffy towel. Scrooge expresses his lack of generosity by giving Bob Crachit, his employee, little to no christmas bonus and being unhappy with his request to take Christmas day off. In both the book and movie, Scrooge and Cross both start out with a very annoyed and almost depressed demeanor, both having a short temper and being very dismissive towards others. Cross was vain and very dedicated to his television company while Scrooge was a workaholic and the only thing he cared about was money. He also craved isolation as he would return home
The movie was the same as the book at some points. One of the points that were the same was that the fact that there was 4 ghosts and that Marley was first seen on his door knocker, this shows that they payed good attention to detail. When the 3rd ghost took scrooge to the first place it was at the house that his worker lived and represented what the story said completely. The reaction of scrooge when he saw his name on the grave he started weeping of sadness, sorrow and grief. This is how the movie and the book are the same.
