The play Don Giovanni directed by Peter Sellers shares many parallels to Moliere’s comedy Don Juan. Additionally, Don Juan is an aristocratic rebel against God, religion, and morality. Don Juan is a masterful manipulator of men and women. Although Don Juan is a comedy, it is grounded in realistic dramatic also relational scenarios that happen today. However, in the play Don Giovanni, the character is darker and more sinister. Moreover, the setting is far from the aristocracy. The cityscape began as in inner city dark and murky project. There is graffiti, signs of death, and stillness all around. Don Giovanni is packed full of immorality as the story unfolds. Don Giovanni’s his heart is hardened beyond humanity thus implicates his soul belongs to Satan. Moreover, Don Giovanni similar to Don Juan’s character is unfaithful to the one he declares his love as he has a thirst for lust and conquest for women. In play Don Giovanni’s assistant who grudgingly witlessness Don Giovanni’s evil actions. His assistant accounts the number of women he has betrayed. Furthermore, Don Giovanni’s assistant shares he stalks any woman no matter the origin. Also, Don Giovanni’s assistant says Don Giovanni has had 640 Italians, 231 Germans, 100 French, 91 Turks, and 1003 Spanish girls. Interestingly in the play, I wondered if the intent of the director to expose Giovanni’s assistant as the alter ego of himself.
However, Don Giovanni, unlike Don Juan, is a criminal he is a rapist and murder too. In
There are quite a lot of widespread stereotypes of Italian Americans in “The Godfather” movies which involve characters, Italian foods, family, and violence. Food plays a huge role in The Godfather movies. Characters in the movies are always seen eating Italian food such as pasta. If the directors were not referring to any specific ethnic group than why were all the movies showing characters with Italian names eating foods that were known to be “Italian” foods. Also, violence is a major key in the movie which is also stereotyped to Italian Americans by them being associated with crime and the mafia. “ Thus, rather than helping to overcome the negative image of Italian-Americans fostered by entertainment programming, the media reinforces
Serpico” is a film that based on the of New York City Police Officer named Frank Serpico and the difficult obstacles he had to face working for the NYPD. Serpico is a “cops cop” that had to deal with persuasive organized corruption, police crime, and ethical dilemmas etc. All these obstacles were hard for Serpico to work with on a daily basis. He refused to take bribes and his co-workers begin distrust him. Serpico informed his superiors about the corruption but they did nothing about it. The superior’s just transferred him from the Bronx. Brooklyn, and Harlem. The higher ups in the police department were more concerned if Serpico spoke to any outside private organizations about the police misconduct.
Friendships are like peanut butter and jelly, they are great by themselves, but even better together. If every person had a friend just like them, life would be boring. A friend that is somewhat similar, but also somewhat different is just right. In the novel, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Johnny and Dally share many similarities and differences.
In this essay, I am going to compare the similarities and differences of teenage life in The Outsiders to the life of teenagers now. The life of The Outsiders and the life of teenagers now are different in some ways and are similar in other ways. The Outsiders had different technology and social media, similar daily lives, and looked and wore different things then what we do now. They didn’t have much technology as we do now, they used payphones and a 300 series phones, but and now we use cell phones and have a lotlots of social media. They had similar daily lives like we do. We both hangout with our friends after school, eat, and slept, and had daily problems to solve in our daily lives. But the difference in our daily
In what way can two people that have grown up with the same lifestyle be so different but at the same time so similar. It seems unrealistic. However, in S. E. Hinton’s novel The Outsiders, two characters with such characteristics exist. Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston are two greasers that at similar because they both place little value on their lives and have parents who don’t give them the attention they need. Despite the similarities these two have, Dally and Johnny have their own divergence from each other such as giving different advice and getting in trouble with the law. Thus, their lifestyle and way of living Jonny Cade and Dallas Winston have some unique differences and strong similarities.
In the book and the movie, The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, there were similar themes. In the book, one theme was things are rough all over. In the book the theme is developed differently but also the same then in the movie. In the book and movie, the theme, Things are rough all over, is developed the same way.
As stated by Don John, “I had rather be a canker in a hedge than a rose in this grace...will it serve for a model to build mischief on? What is he for a fool that betroths himself to unquietness.” (Shakespeare 14). Here it is shown that Don John feels very miserable around people, especially his brother. He blames others for his mistreatment and prefers to avoid them. Don Pedro shows different feelings with regard to people as he said, “Thou wilt be like a lover presently and tire the hearer with a book of words. If thou dost love fair Hero, cherish it and I will break with her and her father thou shalt have her,” (Shakespeare 11). Don Pedro shows that he cares for others and will support them in their ideas, as he said here to help Claudio’s love life. He doesn’t show that he hate peoples as much as Don John, but rather he gives advice and helps others with their problems. Don John is move negative character, while Don Pedro is significantly more considerate for others.
In the graphic novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the interactions between Ponyboy and Dally, two characters with opposing beliefs, illuminate how people must go through hard times to finally recognize and accept each other’s differences by listening and understanding each other's perspectives. After a long night Ponyboy came home late one night, his brother, Darry was furious and yelled, “I didn't think! I forgot! That’s all I heard out of you! Can’t you think of anything?” (50). Darry’s lack of acceptance for Ponyboy’s contrasts in mind set results in anger and confusion, which ends up directing to a hurtful path in their brotherly bond. As time went on, the brothers realized how their dissimilarities do not affect how much they love each
Through his writing, Shakespeare is not only able to gage the perspective of one, but of many. He uses his multiple techniques and skills to not only write a great play, but one that makes you think and ask questions. Through analyzing and picking apart each character, I have realized that each and everyone one of the characters is a foil of one or another in some way. The characters of Don Jon and Don Pedro not only added to the storyline, but added to the drama and comedy of this classic play
Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing is a play about individuals seeking love. But, the character I will analyze has nothing to do with love, unless it is the love for chaos. This character is Don John, an illegitimate prince, forever be in his betters shadows, seeking to rise from the darkness into the stage of power. Don John, the reincarnation of anti-hero in the most classical aspect of petty and vindictive. Shakespeare introduced Don John in a quiet and cloudy manner, the most mysterious of the crowd, because he introduced himself as " I am not of many words." then only showed up in scenes of scheming and dissension. Such as, "Come, come, let us thither: this may prove food to my displeasure. That young start-up hath all the glory of my overthrow: if I can cross him any way, I bless myself every
Nearly every character within the play at some point has to make inferences from what he or she sees, has been told or overhears. Likewise, nearly every character in the play at some point plays a part of consciously pretending to be what they are not. The thought of acting and the illusion it creates is rarely far from the surface. Don Pedro acts to hero,
Don Giovanni is an operatic character that plays a womanizer during the 17th century. This was a play first performed in 1789, a successful creation of Mozart and DaPonte. During the play, Don Giovanni represents a sociopath that is lead by his incredible weakness for women. This weakness leads him into darkness, complete with seduction, and murder. Since the beginning, many people have seen Don Giovanni as a hero but many others have considered him a villain. The actions of Don Giovanni are not completely heroic neither are they totally villainous. But is noticeable that throughout the play he is more a hero than a villain.
Because noting/observing has such importance in Messina (and, by implication, Elizabethan society), manipulation and deception are used by the dark forces in the play to exercise power and control. Don John is a stock Elizabethan villain whose intention is to harm all those involved in his downfall – especially Claudio. Twice he tries to convince Claudio that Hero favours another. These episodes both involve deception and slander and this malevolence distorts Claudio’s perception of the events. Both times Claudio notes incorrectly and his willingness to believe falsehoods and attribute blame – first to beauty (“for beauty is a witch” 2. 1. 135), then to Hero’s base nature (“savage sensuality” 4.1. 135) – also point to self-deception about love, honour and women. Claudio’s failure to distinguish appearance from reality is brought about by his romantic idealism. Hero becomes an illusion in which all womanly virtue and beauty are contained (“Can the world buy such a jewel” 1.1.108-109). He can not note Hero’s flesh and blood humanity and, later, he can not note her innocence. His devotion to courtly ideals seems to be the real reason he can not distinguish appearance from reality and Don John’s slander only reinforces his natural
THE GODFATHER, made in 1974, details the Corleone crime family in Manhattan during the mid 1930s. The Don, Vito Corleone, played by Marlon Brando, leads his organization against a relentless narcotics push by a rival family, the Sollozzos. Vito Caleone does not want anything to do with drugs because he believes they will be the downfall of the Mafia. The story, covering a ten year time period, offers a rich tapestry of Mafia life from the inside, drawing the audience into witnessing the transfer of power within a close-knit family
Moreover, Don Juan speaks of commitment to one woman as bondage or a death sentence. In the story Don Juan was once committed to his Elvira, presently has lost interest in her. Thus, Don Juan says “What! Would you restrict a man to staying chained to the first woman who takes his fancy, has him give up everything for her and never look back again?” ( 98 Misier). Therefore, Don Juan uses his expansive vocabulary to manipulate and persuade women of any background. Hence Don Juan remains bold in his efforts to steal a woman’s affections insomuch he enchants and stirs debate between Charlotte and Mathurine. In the story Charlotte and Mathurine debate over whom Don Juan loves. Therefore Don Juan fuels the debate between Charlotte and Mathurine. Also, Don Juan says “What do you want me to say. . .You both claim that I promised to marry you. But doesn’t each one of you knows the truth without my needing to spell it out? Surely the one I have given my promise to can afford to laugh at anything the other one says” (115 Moliere).
