“You will never know whether you like that job or not until you really have a chance to observe and get to know by yourself. Thanks God that I love it, but it’s not an easy job anyway.” My Aunt – Mrs. Chi Tran really means it when she talks about her job as a Pharmacist. Her passion for a job always inspires me to follow my career as a pharmacist, and to be someone like her. However, I have never had a chance to see her at work. So this time, I decided to sleep over to have a full view of her working day. Eight hours being totally concentrated and carefully review more than 100 prescriptions without any mistake is what she has to do every day. However, that is just a part of this job. Being a Pharmacist is totally not as easy as I thought.
After ten years working for CVS Pharmacy, my aunt asked for working at home to take care of her children. CVS was really nice that they gave her an opportunity to have a work-life balance with the condition that she had to work at really early in the morning. It has to be exactly 3:00 am every morning. To interview her, I tried to wake up 2:30, made her a cup of coffee and tried to have a quick chat before she got started. “CVS let me work at home because no one wants to wake up that early in the morning to review all the prescriptions other than me. I can do everything to have more time with my children.” She took a mouthful of coffee and smiled:”However, working at home under the supervision of a computer is much more stressful than
I have graciously been given the opportunity to broaden my horizons and learn a variety of practices in the pharmaceutical environment. Since the October of 2017 I have been employed at Hoey Apothecary under the care and teaching of many pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. At Hoey Apothecary I work as a pharmacy assistant, and only because of the Youth Apprenticeship Program that Monona Grove High School has offered to it’s students. During my time in the program I having developed a variety of skills and learned the inner works of the cooperation between the technicians and pharmacists. Specifically as an assistant, I am tasked with the responsibilities of; ensuring that the patients are receiving the correct prescription, at the right time,
My strongest impetus for the study of this major is pegged on the personal urge to improve the lives and health of those around me. I would only be able to serve the health of others when I am fully acquainted with the knowledge of pharmacy, which to me is one of the noblest professions. I am deeply concerned about the welfare of others. My experiences, especially as I visit hospitals form a significant part in influencing my choice to study pharmacy. At one point, I felt very bad when a pharmacist in a hospital I had visited was very indolent in serving a patient. All human beings would feel adored and valued when they are given appropriate attention in regard to their health. The health profession has a mission geared towards safeguarding people's health and that mission is perfectly in sync with my desires. I want to be exceptional, to do my best in caring for people, and attend to their interest to the best of my knowledge. I admire nourishing hope to desolate patients and always give them a reason to
I have worked at Walgreens as a pharmacist technician, but never had an experience working in a hospital pharmacy before. During my rotation, I noted that nearly everyone admitted into hospital have an acute condition that justifies the admission. The conditions also tend to be more severe or unusual, which leads to a greater variety of medicines being used. Also, in the hospital a doctor or nurse is not hesitant to contact a pharmacist when they need advice and pharmacists are accessible.
I learn to work the computer system not unlike training a seal to play a horn. Being behind the counter is much less confusing and cognitively intensive than learning all the jargon necessary to stand next to the white lab coats. I assimilate to the layout of the small, yet cozy pharmacy, and begin to feel comfortable with my change in scenery. Just as this positive feeling approaches me, it’s ripped away before I can fully enjoy it due to a new, arduous task that is introduced to my now spinning head. Now there’s nothing left to do except for the pharmacist to run out of new tasks to give me so that my head can have a rest from its

Ten years ago I set out on a journey to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming an influential pharmacist and healthcare professional within my community, however, I was unaware of all of the challenges I would be faced in pursuit of my dreams. I began seeking work while I was enrolled in my first semester of college. During my job search, I discovered a job posting for an entry level pharmacy technician at a community retail pharmacy. After reading the job description, I knew that I was on the right track to finding a career that incorporated my love for both chemistry and biology. I began work as a pharmacy technician where I learned the ins and outs of the industry and decided to enroll in the certified pharmacy technician course that was available at my college in hopes of continuing my goal of one day becoming a pharmacist.

I visited a well community pharmacy on 02-11-2017. The well pharmacist mentor provided me with academic and professional support and facilitated my learning. During the placement, the responsible pharmacist asked me some questions to test my knowledge and understanding. This support enabled me to achieve the visit goals and to link my learning at the University to real-life practice. I observed how NHS and private prescriptions are dispensed in the pharmacy. Also, how the well pharmacy standards operating procedures(SOPs) are applied in the workplace and which member of the team performs the legal and clinical checks on the prescriptions. Furthermore, I noticed how GSL,P and POM medicines are organized and stored in the pharmacy,
To me, a pharmacist is an indispensable professional that helps educate and care for patients. When my mother-in-law struggled with breast cancer, I was inspired by how her pharmacist helped manage the nauseating side effects of her medications, and alerted her when a lesser side effects was actually a dangerous sign of nervous system damage. Knowing that his concern
I have always been the one person to stand out. I started standing out mostly in my academics in kindergarten. The academically gifted program at my elementary school spotted my high academic ability in both math and science. I was in this program all the way through the end of middle school. In the 7th grade I had the opportunity to do a project on the career I thought was most interesting. For this project I chose the career a pharmacist. While doing this project, I found out that I really like what this career is about. Since that project, I have done more research on pharmacist, and I have been set on this career ever since.

This semester has been a tough one but I feel like I have learned a lot about pharmacy over these past few months. I have had a lot of courses so far and in each one, I have been able to make connections to the practice of pharmacy. In this essay, I will reflect on some of things I learned in my courses and how they relate to my future career as a pharmacist. I will also identify areas where certain topics intersect in different courses.
This career goes unnoticed because many do not see the importance of it. Without this field, the balance in the medical community would be disrupted due to patients not receiving their medication to sustain their life. Although this career may seem easy, there are important characteristics one must hold in order to be a successful pharmacist.
