They even get involved with magic that disturbs their feelings for each other but in the end everyone was happy. Hermia got herself into a love mess with her father and Demetrius, and in the end everyone was happy. Egeus stated, “Scornful Lysander, true, he hath my love, and what is mine my love shall render him. And she is mine, and all my right of her I do estate unto Demetrius” because he wanted Demetrius to be with Hermia. (Shakespeare 1.1.95-98 Hermia ended up with Lysander because that was who she loved. Egeus was not mad and Demetrius ended up with Helena. Everyone was happy and everything worked out. Demetrius expressed, “Churl, upon thy eyes I throw all the power this charm doth owe. When thou wakest, let love forbid Sleep his seat on thy eyelid” because he was getting love potion in his eyes (Shakespeare 2.2.77-80). Lysander and Hermia worked it out and Puck reversed the spell so everything went back to normal and love found its way around the obstacles. Hermia and Lysander were in love and then Puck put love potion in Lysander's eyes and he started loving Helena. Demetrius also got love potion put in his eyes which made him love Helena. Lysander and Demetrius got in a fight over Helena. Then, Hermia was very confused. Puck finally made the spell go away and everything went back to normal and Lysander and Hermia fell back in
The love that Lysander and Hermia share is very unlike the relationship between Helena and Demetrius. Lysander and Hermia have loved each other for a very long period of time and have dreamed of getting married. However, Hermia’s father, Egeus, disapproves of this couple. Hermia and Lysander’s love for each other is tested when Egeus tries to shatter their relationship
William Shakespeare is a successful playwright as he uses the style of history, tragedy and comedy which is an entertaining aspect that is in all his plays.
The love for Helena appeared out of nowhere. He did not develop the passion for her, it happened in one day. True love needs true passion, not passion from a potion. Love is not something that is material; it is felt from the heart, not a potion. Demetrius’ and Helena’s love is forged
When the love potion was put on Lysander he had no feelings for Hermia but she still stayed true to him. Oberon wants to get involved in everybody's love life and Puck his sidekick puts the love potion on the wrong Athenian man and the love quadrilateral get confusing. Lysander said “ She doesn’t see Hermia- Hermia keep sleeping and do not come near me ever again! Eating too many sweets make people sick to their stomachs and people always hates mistakes they made in the past worse than anyone else hates those mistakes. Hermia, you're the sweet I’ve had too much of and the mistake I used to make so I hate you more than anyone else does.-I’ll use all my talents and efforts to serve Helena and bring her honor.” (Shakespeare.2.2.59-61.) Hermia
Love is anonymous. It is superior to everything that matters. Love is a test, that sometimes can be failed, or sometimes can be worth those one- hundred points. Love is messy, and unorganized, it spills over the edges of everyones life. When love is controlled, it is complicated to figure out how to deal with it. It can have a good or bad ending. Confusion can occur when the love is tampered with. It can be saved with re-uniting of the love, and then living a happy ending. Many love connections are effected somehow either that person doing it to themselves, or someone else who mixes the love relationships up . Confusion within the love can cause misconception and turn into a disaster amongst each other. In Midsummer Nights Dream by
Egeus was trying to control Hermia and make her marry Demetrius which loves her but Hermia’s heart wants Lysander. In act 1 scene 1 it states, “If she won’t agree to marry Demetrius right now, I ask you to let me exercise the right that all fathers have in Athens ….. As the law says: I can either make her marry Demetrius or have her killed.” Egeus would do anything to make his daughter to marry Demetrius.
Another characteristic that is not generally applied to love, but which is inseparably connected to it in this play, is cruelty. Love is an agent of degradation. Helena abases herself in a pathetic attempt to renew Demetrius’s love for her, saying, “I am your spaniel; and, Demetrius, / The more you beat me, I will fawn on you. / Neglect me, lose me; only give me leave, / Unworthy as I am, to follow you” (2.1.204-207). It is love that brings her so low; it does the same to Hermia when she has lost Lysander’s love. Hermia is understandably bewildered by the sudden loss of her lover, and she says,
Throughout the events which unfold in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare delivers several messages on love. Through this play, one of the significant ideas he suggests is that love is blind, often defying logic and overriding other emotions and priorities. Helena loves Demetrius unconditionally and pursues him despite knowing that he loathes her; conflict arises between Helena and Hermia, childhood best friends, over Demetrius and Lysander; and because she is in love, Queen Titania is able to see beauty and virtue in the ass-headed Nick Bottom.
“ Falling in love is like jumping off a really tall building , your brain tells you it is not a good idea , but your heart tells you , you can fly. And then you die.” In Midsummer Night’s Dream, there are lovers but love ruins a lot of relationships, like the ones in the story. Love messes up everything in life, cause you know it feels ok until something happens like cheating or falling in love with someone else. Love is a powerful force that can ruin relationships.
In Athens, women had very little rights. Womens fathers were the ones who got to choose whom they married, and that caused trouble for the lovers. Hermia’s father, Egeus, strongly believed in this rule. At the beginning, Egeus decides that he wants Hermia to marry Demetrius, which is good for Demetrius but bad for Hermia. Hermia, daringly refuses her father’s wishes, so they seek the help of Theseus, the Duke of Athens. Theseus listens to their situation, and being the authority in the situation, tells Hermia: “Either to die the death, or to abjure for the society of men. Therefore, fair Hermia,... if you yield not to your father’s choice, you can endure the livery of a nun...”(24). This shows how authority, in this case the law, gets in the way of “the course of true love…”(28). Egeus’s decision to have Hermia marry Demetrius does not only affect Hermia but also affects Helena. When Hermia’s father chooses Demetris to be her

Also, there is Helena's love for Demetrius, which could be described as a true love, even though at first it is unrequited.
