"A Sound of Thunder" personal response
Throughout the short story "A Sound of Thunder" written by Ray Bradbury there is an ongoing theme of how all actions have consequences. While reading the short story I had made several connections in which related back to my life. My personal experience starts off the year of grade 8, I had wanted to audition for the regional arts program at Mayfield Secondary School for dance. Months before the audition I felt prepared, excited and like nothing could stop me from doing what I loved. Until the morning of the audition where anxiety and adrenaline kicked in and I no longer want to attend the audition. Moreover, when I arrived at the audition the dance teacher explained how many people they were accepting compared to the amount that

Meanwhile, when comparing the two events there is a similar connection with nothing being guaranteed. As said in the short story "' Does the Safari guarantee I come back alive? ' 'We guarantee nothing, said the official '"(1). The official explaining that nothing is guaranteed is like my experience when not knowing the outcome of making it into the RAP program. My spot wasn't guaranteed either was anybody's else and by not having anything guaranteed it caused the fear of the not succeeding in the audition. This can also relate to how the real world works and how nothing in life is really guaranteed. Furthermore, when Travis explained the rules of the forest and which dinosaurs to kill, he expressed, " A little error here would multiply in sixty million years, all out of proportion"(4). This displays that there is no room for errors and if so it can affect the future, just like my experience when I felt as if I were to make a mistake I would mess up and ruin my chances of being successful, in the audition. This event in the story also foreshadows the error of killing the butterfly. Such a little mistake caused a huge change in who won the election and how
Did you know a good author will always try to entertain the audience to make sure they keep reading. They use precise words that make you stick to the story and want to get deeper into the plot. In “A Sound of Thunder” the author Bradbury uses descriptive language, and sensory details to evoke the mood.
“A Sound of Thunder”, by Ray Bradbury is a story which takes place at two different times, a future time and millions of years ago when dinosaurs were around. In the story, Eckels goes in a time machine to see the past and makes the one little mistake of stepping out of the given path and killing a butterfly that leads to a huge change to the present and his death. A theme or lesson in the story I noticed was, even the smallest actions have big consequences.
When looking at both stories through an archetypal lens the reader can easily spot the similarities. Both stories can be linked to the Bible. Griffin can be compared to God because he can not be seen by the people of Iping, but they can feel his presence and the title “A Sound Of Thunder”can also be reference to God's voice. Both men Eckles and Griffin have different beliefs than the people in the societies they enter. Their ideas and actions are unforgivable and like Jesus both men are killed for their transgressions. Showcasing how society treats those who are different. Theses references and more are found in each story. By comparing and analyzing both stories through archetypal criticism the reader can see how the stories are immensely related to the Bible and each other. Through these connection the reader can also see how society condemns those who are divergent. One concept that archetypal criticism is known for is the reference to symbolic ideas and places or the repetition of them. Archetypal criticism originates from the word archetype which literally means the “first print.” This refers to the images that are in the mind of all people since the beginning of time. Most of the biblical sense in the bible are passed down from generation to generation. Its teachings are embedded into people
If life is like a scale, then Ray Bradbury’s short story “A Sound of Thunder” illustrates how easily this scale can be tipped. “A Sound of Thunder” is an intriguing short story about time travel and its potential to distort the intricate balance of life. The story begins in the year 2055 when a group of five men, consisting of three hunters and two Time Safari guides travel sixty six million years back in time to hunt what they consider the most amazing monster in history: Tyrannosaurus Rex. Although the men succeed in killing their game, one hunter named Eckels panics at the sight of the monster and steps off the levitating metal path intended to separate the men from the ancient
In the text “A Sound of Thunder” a common theme is that little actions have big consequences. “A Sound of Thunder” is a short story by Ray Bradbury that takes place in the future, and is about a man named Eckels. Eckels goes to a business that allows people to go back in time and kill an animal that lived long ago. In this case, Eckels wants to kill a T-Rex. He goes back to the time that the T-Rex was about to die, so that way, he wouldn’t affect the future. The guide, Travis, warns him multiple times to stay on the path, which is a metal trail that hovers above the ground, to prevent damaging it. However, the T-Rex is much bigger than Eckels suspected, and the safari men all aim and desperately fire at it, hoping that they will get lucky and at least cripple the beast. In the struggle, Eckels accidentally falls off the path, and, upon their return to the present, there were big changes, including the election that was happening at that time, and even the language had changed the way that we spell things. Enraged, Travis pulls out his gun and shoots Eckels.
Imagine a world with a public time machine. No license, no objections. But you will have to know what you going into because whatever you do will have an effect in the world. In the story, The Sound of Thunder, by Ray Bradbury, Eckels, the main character, experienced this message in a very violent way. Although Eckels is brave, curious and courageous beyond measure, he is far from admirable because his selfish and impulsive behaviors made him unaware of his surroundings in ways that drastically harm others and the world around him. Eckels is not a good character in this story because of his bad acts. Ray Bradbury is basically expressing a good idea in a more elaborated version of it. He is saying that all actions have consequences. Eckels
I often find myself pondering how different history would be if certain events did or potentially didn’t transpire or went differently. In Ray Bradbury’s story, “A Sound of Thunder,” history gets altered. If was presented the opportunity to change any event in history I would prevented the enslavement of Africans. This is something that I have long been contemplating. For better or worse I, have always wondered what world would take form had slavery been prohibited and or thwarted during its inception. The reason I would choose to change that event in history above all others is simple. I feel that would save a plethora of Africans from being wrongfully enslaved for over 200 years all the while having to deal with inhumane working and living
Life is beautiful and mysterious. Therefore, there are things that seem to happen like what we expect but it actually results oppositely. The more we expect the more disappointed we will get when the outcome turns out wrong. That is the lesson I learned from reading the four essays by Chuck Klosterman: What We Talk About When We Talk About Ralph Sampson, Through a Glass, Blindly, Passion of the Garth and “Ha ha,” he said. ”Ha ha”.
What makes a good story? The most important element that can’t be left out in a story is the setting. The setting is the fundamental building blocks of creating a vivid story based on, characters, time of placement, symbolism, and imagery. All these types of elements are needed to bring a story to life. In the short story “A Sound of Thunder,” Ray Bradbury, uses descriptive imagery, and symbolism, in order for the reader to imagine and envision the environment that the story is taking place. It also helps the author get his main point across the story, which is that every action has a consequence.
The story “A Sound of Thunder” is about a man named Eckels who has hunted everything, except dinosaurs. On a very special day Eckels goes into a building where he is going to pay a pretty penny to travel back in time to hunt his final animal, the Tyrannosaurus Rex. As he walks into the building there he reads a sign which is very important later in the story. He arrives at the desk to pay for the trip and the people are talking about the recent election where the first allusion to the story occurs. Eckels is greeted by his tour guide Travis, who is very keen on telling Eckels to stay on the path and to only shoot when he gives the signal to shoot.

The first thing I was able to take away from this book is that life is going to throw the unexpected at you. You don’t have any control over that, but you do have control over how you react to these events. In the novel, Randy notes that “You can’t change the hand you were dealt, just how you play
