"A Sound of Thunder" personal response
Throughout the short story "A Sound of Thunder" written by Ray Bradbury there is an ongoing theme of how all actions have consequences. While reading the short story I had made several connections in which related back to my life. My personal experience starts off the year of grade 8, I had wanted to audition for the regional arts program at Mayfield Secondary School for dance. Months before the audition I felt prepared, excited and like nothing could stop me from doing what I loved. Until the morning of the audition where anxiety and adrenaline kicked in and I no longer want to attend the audition. Meanwhile, when comparing the two events there is a similar connection with nothing being guaranteed. As said in the short story "' Does the Safari guarantee I come back alive? ' 'We guarantee nothing, said the official '"(1). The official explaining that nothing is guaranteed is like my experience when not knowing the outcome of making it into the RAP program. My spot wasn't guaranteed either was anybody's else and by not having anything guaranteed it caused the fear of the not succeeding in the audition. This can also relate to how the real world works and how nothing in life is really guaranteed. Furthermore, when Travis explained the rules of the forest and which dinosaurs to kill, he expressed, " A little error here would multiply in sixty million years, all out of proportion"(4). This displays that there is no room for errors and if so it can affect the future, just like my experience when I felt as if I were to make a mistake I would mess up and ruin my chances of being successful, in the audition.
