At this moment in my life I see myself as a young woman who wants to accomplish my goals in completing my career and becoming a mentor to kids around me. For instance, one of the values I have that my parents have instructed me was to be a part of an influence in someone else 's live. My parents have always told me to have a goal to influence others to make a right decision or help them out. Therefore, my parents have grown in me a caring person to others and help others around me. Therefore, my interest right now is to help kids with their problems and help them grow in their education. This is the reason why I have decided to become a Speech Pathologist and hope that in the future I can help kids to develop their language and be able to …show more content…
Another thing I noticed is how the leaders of the club had a nurturance and connection with the children where I would ask the kids do you like your leaders and they would all respond “Yes, I consider them as my mom and dad.” Concluding with this answer I would think that this organization helps relieve children stressors and helps them identify themselves.
For example, they help them with identify their gender role, help them to make right health choices to decrease obesity and also help them with their education. One of the things I saw was that in one of the honors which is an activity or topic that they learn about and they get to receive a badge at the end. They helped children to know how there are many different plants in the world and how there are some that we can eat and how they are good for us. After they were done discussing the importance of plants they went outside and planted different types of plants for the children to take care of.
Another event that I attended and I thought it was very helpful was when they went out during January and gave the homeless food. The children went out and gave a lunch bag to the one who were in need and they would also invite them to the park later on where they were going to be serving dinner to the ones who needed it. When they were done reaching out the ones in needed they went to the park and started to set everything up
I later realized that I should try to get some of my friends and classmates involved too. l started out my junior year. One thing our teacher tried to teach us was the acts of random kindness. After practicing random acts of kindness throughout the school, I mentioned the idea of volunteering a couple of hours with the Angel Tree. I also encouraged our school’s Student Council to help. The club adopted two angels. By doing so, this gave the students the desire to want to volunteer again the following year. This year, we had Beta club, student council and two dual credit classes, a total of 40-50 students, volunteer at the warehouse for 2 days. Some even came back during Christmas Break and volunteered at the Distribution Day. Not only is it important to lead and serve others, but one should also encourage those around him or her to serve others as
Giving families food that are in need is another great way to change the community in how they shop for food. Many families need it especially during the holiday season or just in general. For example, I am in the spanish club organization and we went in January of this year we went to this house where a single mother lived with seven of her kids in an apartment which we did not get to meet but the lady besides her told us. We went to this other house and a guy was blind so the wife worked two jobs with three kids. That made us all reflect on how much more we can do and give back.
Clubs specializing in volunteering, truly trying to combat the problem such as Key Club while also working in unison with other clubs such as Model UN and Spanish Club. Volunteering is essential in eradicating the problem of homelessness in our community. Although volunteering at many places over high school such as Honor Flight assisting war veterans for a flight to Washington D.C to visit war memorials, for the Eastern Farm Workers Association helping make tamales to sell during superbowl week, at the school such as Tillie’s Touch collecting sports equipment and giving it to children in need, or making sandwiches for the homeless, by far the one that has had the most impact on me has been the Samaritan Center. Volunteering at the Samaritan Center, although the process being rigorous trying to volunteer there is worth it due to having an amazing and eye opening experience. Facing the problem head on opens your eyes to reality and truly makes you
I had a dream of a career that would allow me to utilize my skills, my motivation to help others, and would catalyze change. Speech-language pathology has allowed me to lead my life with purpose, the purpose of empowering others. This empowerment is gained by my assistance in overcoming speech related deficits and disorders as a speech-language pathologist
I didn’t start out knowing that I wanted to be a Speech and Language Pathologist. In fact, I began my school career thinking I wanted to be a teacher because I knew two things: First, I knew that I wanted to teach and second, I knew I wanted to help people. Teaching has always been my
Every year the students of my high school host the Wyoming County Special Olympics- a day of fun, a day of laughter. As a sophomore I was very hesitant to volunteer for this activity. Some of the teachers and other students convinced me this would be a worthwhile project. We let the handicapped students put on our school uniforms, we taught them to throw and catch, and did everything possible to entertain them. In that one day, I received more blessings through the eyes of those children than in all of the other days of the year.
The student writing this personal statement will not be the same student a week, month or year from now. This is due to my commitment to continual personal and professional growth and development. This commitment to life long learning, as well as my passion for helping people, is the why behind every single one of my waking moments. I look forward to a career in Speech Language Pathology because the profession is constantly evolving and there is always more to learn. I look forward to staying current and developing mentoring relationships within the profession, as well as developing strong bonds within the community.
Often, I am asked why I want to become a Speech-Language-Pathologist. My answer is always the same. In my opinion, having the opportunity and privilege to help someone with the way they communicate with the world, the way they express themselves, and make sense of the world around them will be my greatest achievement in life. What my educational goal is? Well, I want to become the best SLP I can possibly be. I plan to graduate with a 4.0 GPA, top of my class. In addition, it is important to me to expand my horizons during my academic career through research, community involvement, and giving back. Everything I will do in my remaining academic career will lead me to people who need my help and relay on it. It may sound naive, but I plan to make
An event that I started was the Trick-or-Treat for Cans not Sweets. It’s an activity where we, dressed in their Halloween costumes, go out in the neighborhood and ask for canned food donations. Incentives of Starbucks gift cards motivated more club members to attend, but I
I have had many plans and ideas of who I wanted to be from infancy, displayed my interest through Halloween costumes and dress up with my little sister. But growing up, I realized I can be whatever I want to be so far as am determined and work hard towards my goal. As I grew up and started college, I finally figured out on what I wanted to be and began working towards it. Being an African, I helped my mum nurse and nurture my grandmother when she had stoke. The bond and experiences we shared together before she passed made me a better person and from there, I knew nursing was what I wanted to do. Am pursuing this career path because, I believe people need all the care they can get in terms of healthcare and having a support system.
My goal is to become a Speech Pathologist because my passion to help others. For several years, my mother has fostered and cared for Medically-fragile adults and kids it saddens me that children or anyone have to endure these different diseases but I'm excited that there are programs that cater to their every type of need. One of these fields that cater to the different diseases are Speech-Pathology. It's not just for helping or teaching to speak it also includes language and swallowing disorders, investigating behavioral patterns associated with communication disorders, and more. I chose this field because I see myself being happy while doing it. I am a very hard and dedicated worker I love to give back and to take care of people. With this
Each year, our club participates in annual events sponsored by our Pilot and/or Anchor Clubs. For example, every Halloween, a canned food drive event is held, sponsored by the Anchors. Our club members, in collaboration with Putnam Christian Outreach, play a major role in the success of the annual food drive. I also participate in numerous other annual events, such as Project Linus, the Dairy Festival, anti-bullying week, a shopping spree at the nursing home, and Christmas events for our district’s special education program. I have also played a key role in multiple fundraising events, particularly the Ferst Foundation community yard sale, but also in planning and executing bake sales, dress down days,
Young Life did not just begin with a program, but it began with a simple concern for kids
Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to have a profession where I could help others. Even at my small elementary school, we had a day every year where those with different disabilities could come and play games with us and we got to interact with them. I always enjoyed being able to talk and play with them, and I thought I wanted to become a Special Education teacher. After a few years of searching more information about this field and help from my mom, I determined that I would not like to teach. Instead, I learned about Speech-Language Pathology. While it is not exactly the same field, I would still be able to work with those with different abilities and all ages. After I graduate from high school at the end of this year, I hope
First and foremost, Happy Anniversary! My goodness, where has the time gone???Our very first anniversary was like yesterday! To think, that we’ve been dating since high school! I guess the saying is true that time really does fly when you're having fun. That is so crazy to me. That’s 2,555 days spent together… to be exact. I can hardly remember what it’s like to not have you in my life. It still makes me laugh that in the starting months of our relationship, many people would see us together and be astounded when they found out we were only together for five months, seven months, or even nine months.
