The RTP chapter of ASHA, a non-profit that supports basic education for the underprivileged in India is the brain child of Ms. Anubha Gupta, a close friend. Along with couple of others, I was a founding member. While she led the administrative works such as identifying projects to support in India and coordinating with the parent chapter in Atlanta, I was tasked with planning events to raise funds. However, I quickly realized that the traditional fund raising methods such as awareness events, charity dinners and proposals might not work in our case, a new foundation. I convinced my team that given the high number of similar established foundations in the area. I emphasized our need to differentiate ASHA from other non-profits. I suggested
A semi-detailed business overview of the non-profit organization known as the YMCA or Young Men’s Christian Association is discussed. A brief history of the origins of the company is detailed along with the definition or explanation of the company’s mission statement. The organization’s basic legal, social, and economic environment is described. Likewise the YMCA’s management structure, operational issues, as well as financial issues are discussed. Lastly, the possible impact that potential change factors, which includes the role of technology, can present to the YMCA business organization are discussed.
I started outlining the nonprofit organization when last semester ended. Now, I have free time to complete the first draft of the organization and proposal so others can make the choice to get involved. I plan to have the first draft and the outline completed before I get to UTSA. I plan to connect with other undergraduates and those who are seeking his or her Master’s degree to help build and make this a reality for the surrounding
Best Buddies is a non-profit organization that promotes the good through one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). It has created lasting relationships between students with disabilities and their peers, therefore, helping to improve the quality of life and level of inclusion for a population that is often isolated and excluded. It has also provided employment opportunities for those with IDD, allowing them to be productive members of the labour force. Lastly, Best Buddies has given those with intellectual and developmental disabilities the chance to realize their potential by encouraging them to become leaders.
As vice president of my school's NHS chapter, I am an advocate for good causes. Our service project this year is a substantial charitable endeavor. In 1996, a fellow NHS member and friend lost a sibling to SIDS. To assist his family's fight for a cure, our chapter initiated a fundraiser. Tee-shirt sales raised thousands of dollars; a ceremony at a football game advertised our cause to the community; our slogan “Big Steps for Baby Steps” galvanized the school; a partnership with the CJ Foundation for SIDS legitimized our efforts with sponsors. Each of the school's clubs and teams has dedicated itself to the cause. A 5k in May is our culminating event. Uniting an entire school and community behind such a worthy cause is gratifying. The other
In this week’s lesson we are looking at the importance of having a chart of accounts in our nonprofit business. At HOPE which is the business that I support. The main focus is to house and provide support to those who are homeless, mentally ill and may be struggling with dual issues. Because there is a need in a nonprofit to show measurements to determine success in each area. Charts are created for every service area the HOPE supports ( Margolis, S. (2014, 11).
It is easily to find out that Windfall has contributed to the community a lot. Also, Kate Ogles gave us some background information about herself and how she got involved into the dancing organizations. She has been dancing for over 20 years and is still dancing now, which is very amazing! She had the experiences of teaching ballet classes before with pre-school and elementary students. She has been active on the board of Windfall for approximately 17 years. She told us that it definitely needed passion to get involved into the nonprofit organizations, and she also needed to be in charge of many different aspects of the organizations, and she definitely suggested us to take some business classes in order to be prepared of financial elements that we may face in the future when we work for nonprofit
For this week’s nonprofit article, I chose an article about a woman name Nancy Lublin, who is the founder of Dress for Success. Through her hard work and planning, she turned her dream into a success. Nancy first thought was how to get people to get on board to donate high end clothes to the organization, even though the organization did not have a lot of money. Nancy, “Identify Limiting Conditions. Planning for a nonprofit organization must also look at those factors that constrains it activities budgetary conditions.” (Wolf 2012, p298). Nancy’s solution to her limitation was focusing on getting sponsorship from corporation and she reached out to other local nonprofits, like the homeless shelters and domestic abuse shelters, to see if they
The NCAA is a non-profit organization that organizes and executes college sports, which includes football, basketball, etc. Key word from the previous sentence would be “non-profit organization”. What kind of “non-profit organization” makes as much money as they do? The NCAA players bring in great revenue with their outstanding efforts in bringing their team up to the top, because that is what the fans like to watch. Now does it seem fair that the NCAA does not give the players back any money at all to the players that actually bring the money in? In simple terms the NCAA makes large amounts of profits and needs to start distributing some of the money to the players (History of College Basketball, 2013). According to another article, the
The governing body of a nonprofit organization is crucial to its success as it provides the necessary leadership, planning, accountability and oversight to propel the organization forward. The success of a nonprofit board often hinges on effective planning, policy, meetings and committee work. Board members of Northeast Texas CASA are described as invested in the program and the children they serve.
Over the course of my two years at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver), a certain nonprofit organization has really stood out to me. This particular non-profit is a critical piece to the MSU Denver community and the greater Denver community as a whole. Food for Thought currently provides food for six impoverished title one elementary schools, where many children would go hungry over the weekends otherwise. MSU Denver students and Denver business leaders volunteer for Food for Thought on a weekly basis during the school year. Every Friday morning, volunteers pack sacks of food into crates, which later get shipped out to the schools in need. Ever since I volunteered for Food for Thought the second semester of my freshman year,
My focus is on non-profit organizations (that help the homeless population/low income clients) and shelters that provide women/families to stay for a specified period of time. Each shelter has a program that the residents have to abide by to stay in compliance. Each person must have a job, seeking employment, or take advantage of an opportunity to learn to be a CDA. There are also other opportunities that are available that the residents can take advantage of. Each non-profit organization has funding from the government, Kiser, P. (2012), (pp. 46-50), private companies that help the organization, and with donations.
Throughout my life I have volunteered for a few organizations. During my underclassmen years I volunteered at Seven Bridges Ranch throughout my summers. My responsibilities included taking care of all their horses, which meant, feeding, watering, grooming, exercising, etc. I was also kept up with some of the simple yard keep. Another great organization I volunteer for is called, 15 Forever Community Foundation. This is a foundation that gives 15,000 dollars to non-profit organizations. I have been doing this for three years, and the board members and I discuss what we want our funding focus is for the year, and then read each application, and decide who is best fit to receive the money. I have always loved being outdoors, and one of the non-profits
the most ethnically diverse of school districts of comparable size in Texas. Virtually every culture of the modern world is represented in its 45,000 plus student enrollment; more than 60 languages and dialects are spoken. A variety of guest speakers, culture clubs, and ethnic fairs help promote a multicultural appreciation. (http://www.imdhouston.org/) Alief ISD recently passed a $345 million bond referendum in May 2015 to enhance school facilities and programs. There is vigorous discussion between the IMD and Alief ISD to open the first International School public school within the District that will attract foreign students from abroad from all over the world to provide Alief students a true global experience and exchange.
Throughout my college career, nonprofit organizations have a played a huge part in shaping me into the person I am today. Serving others has always been a passion of mine, one of which I constantly sought to fulfill these past four years. Upon entering the University of Georgia, I immediately became involved in an organization on campus called UGA Miracle, which raises money for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. During my four years, I have become more and more involved, leading to me being given a position this year on their Executive Board as Media Co-Chair. Through this position, I get the opportunity to design graphics, websites, and flyers, as well as make videos, that all help portray our organization in the best
There used to be a time when zoos used to be full of animals. A time when extinction was not a problem. That was the past. Today, zoos all around the world are missing many animals such as the African elephant or the dodo bird. All of these wonderful animals became extinct because we were careless enough to let them all die. World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is an organization that is trying to prevent extinction from happening. WWF is an environmental organization dedicated to “protecting the world’s wildlife and wetlands” ("World Wildlife Fund"). It is one of the largest private supported conservation organizations in the world, with support from one million members in just the United States. WWF was formed on September 11, 1961 in Morges,
