Abandoning the Articles of Confederation for the U.S Constitution America abandon the Articles of Confederation and adopts the United States Constitution, it all begins when Cornwallis surrenders at Yorktown on Oct. 19 1781. That same year the Articles of Confederation was ratified after four years. Americans needed a functioning government we finally got our independence from Britain with the Treaty of Versailles in 1783. Little success came from the Articles of Confederation it was a weak confederation of the 13 states and it caused economic problems for the Americans. Although there might be different opinions as to why the Americans abandoned the Articles of Confederation. However I believe that because of a weak government and an enormous amount of debt it caused a chain of reactions that forced Americans to go into rebellion because they were unhappy with their government which lead to the adoption of the United Sates Constitution. Having a strong government is essential for a working republic but instead we had a weak one. When the Continental Congress took initiative in 1777 it wanted a lasting and unifying government. Citizens were already debating how much authority each state government would get and who decided about taxes and so forth. When the Articles of Confederation was ratified in 1781 it created a frail confederation of the 13 states basically a strong friendship between the states. There was no separate
