Ever since the case of Roe v. Wade in 1973, abortion has been one of the most contentious issues in our society. Which later leads to the debate between pro-life and pro-choice. On the one hand, the pro-life perspective feels that all children should have the right to live. On the other hand, the pro-choice view believes that a woman should have the right to choose what is right for her and the situation at hand. This debate today has widely impacted everyone in the United States.

Out of all modern social controversies, perhaps the most heated controversy is that of abortion. In today’s society you are either a Pro-life or a Pro-choice, there is not a middle ground. Pro-life are individuals who believe abortion is immoral and should be stop for the wellbeing of women and unborn babies. In contrast, the Pro-choice individuals do not necessarily promote abortion, they just believe women should be the ones to make decisions over their bodies and health. Although the two main sides of the abortion debate have concerns for human life, pro-life activists worries more about the fetus and morals, a clear difference from the pro-choice that worries more for the women and their rights. Based on the points I explored, the pro-choice arguments are stronger than pro-life arguments. Most of both groups arguments comes from peer-reviewed researches from well-known sources to support each individual concept. Effects on women,socio-politics, and fetus are some of the main point of conflicts between the pro-life and pro-choice advocates.

Abortion is always a passionate topic of debate for anybody. Whether it’s a debate for an elected government position or friends just sitting around drinking coffee, abortion is a topic that has the potential to get emotionally out of hand. Most people don’t know that there has been approximately 57,762,169 abortions since the decision was made in Roe vs. Wade in 1973 (Life News). Some people look at this number and are appalled. But others see this and think of all the people who used abortion as a means to a second chance. Abortion has long been a controversial topic in the U.S. but lots of people are choosing sides without really knowing all the facts. Abortion can be seen from many different sides but most know these sides as pro-choice or pro-life. Pro-choice is known for supporting women’s right to choose whether they want to have the baby or not and pro-life is known for supporting the life of the unborn child. The big question is who are abortions really hurting and who is pro-life really helping.

The battle for the legality of abortion is one that is highly debated and argued by pro-life and pro-choice believers. Pro-life are those who stand for the abolition of abortions; pro-choice, on the contrary, stand for its legality. Though many in both groups believe in a more blurred line of when exceptions should be made, in its entirety, they are on opposite ends of the abortion spectrum. With ever-changing moral and ethical standards, pro-choice challenges the pro-life debate with medical, sexist, and illogical arguments.

Among all the issues that have been fought for or against in the United States, abortion may be one of the most popular issues that Americans are passionate about. Abortion is defined as the removal of the embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy. Thousands of abortions take place every single day, and yet public opinion remains at a standstill as to whether or not abortion is ethical. Everyone holds different opinions on abortion. The proponents believe that it is the women’s private right to determine the future of the baby in her body. On the other hand, the opponents think a woman does not have the right to decide whether the person that she gives birth should live or die. They believe that life begins at conception. In fact, a person’s stance on the issue is often determined by how he views the fetus: a part of the mother’s body or as a human being. I am an opponent, and I believe abortion is murder. Also, abortion should not be legal because it harms women’s health, affects intimate relationship, and women do not have the right to decide the baby’s right to live or die.

Currently there are two sides to the argument such as pro choice and pro life which push if abortion should be illegal or not. People’s different perspectives and opinion on whether or not abortion is immoral continue to divide America into two groups: “Pro-choice” and “Pro-life”. However, pro-life advocates tend to focus more on the fetus rather than how abortion and programs have actually benefited the mother and families. There is hypocrisy in people who identify themselves as “pro-life” and the word itself can be misleading as it does not align with the true values of protecting a life.

Pro-life advocates argue that abortions are murder and extreme levels of child abuse. While pro-choice advocates believe abortions are a justifiable means to end pregnancies. Conversely many believe that it is the mother's legal right to have the option of abortion especially in cases of rape, incest or health issues which could damage the livelihood of the mother. Did you know that almost 90% of all abortion take place in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy? Yes, that's right 90%, but you know what the most embarrassing thing for a mother is, they regret the abortion moments after they do it. Women still chose to abort their child which is reckless and have no sympathy to the many women who suffer from infertility. When it comes to abortion being discussed there are two main standpoints: - Pro-life are people who believe that women should not have the ability to abort a child as it is classified as a murder in their eyes, on the other hand, pro - choice people, are people who believe that women and mothers who are carrying the foetus should decide whether to carry it or abort it.

Abortion is a rather sensitive topic that carries various and strong personal opinions. The first question is what is an abortion?   Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by removing or expelling the fetus or embryo from the uterus before it is ready for birth. During debates, both sides often present valid arguments towards support or rejection of their respective position.  Pro-life believers argue that a child that cannot speak for himself must be defended for the right to live.   The condition of the child or the parent’s opinion is not enough reason to terminate the pregnancy.  Moreover, the reason how the pregnancy became a reality is also not reason enough for termination. For instance, if a woman conceives due to being violated, pro-choice supporters continue to believe in anti-abortion. Many pro-life believers focus their decisions on religion; however, their focus can become rather violent. There have been some that stalk or threaten women who have chosen abortion.

As defined by the 2012 Merriam- Webster dictionary, an Encyclopedia Britannica Company, an abortion is, “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus as a spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first 12 weeks of gestation- miscarriage, the induced expulsion of a human fetus, or the expulsion of a fetus by a domestic animal often due to infection at any time before completion of pregnancy.” Abortions have always been and will probably always be a controversial topic in which everyone will not agree upon. Amid the controversy, two groups have emerged. These groups are referred to as pro-life and pro-choice. According to Gale Opposing Viewpoints in Context, pro-life supporters claim that life begins at conception, therefore, abortion at any stage in the pregnancy is murder. They believe that life is valuable and the life of the unborn baby ha the same rights as the mother. Pro- choice supporters, on the other hand, claim that it is the woman’s right to choose what she does with her body. These pro-abortionists claim that anti-abortionists are truly against the rights of women and free choice rather than the termination of the fetus. The pro-choice position’s main argument is that illegalizing abortions takes away rights from the mother. Referring back to the textbook, this is the argument that if a famous artist’s kidney failed, nobody is legally bound to give them their kidney. Additionally, people in the pro-choice position don’t view the fetus as a child at conception. It’s a clump of cells that can’t experience pain or live on their own, so nobody has a duty to protect or raise it. People in the pro-life position argue against this by saying that the fetus has the potential to become a child, so we have a duty to protect it and raise it to be a person. A derivative of this argument is to reserve the most human life. The issue with this is once that distinction is made, what makes rape wrong? If rape occurs, there’s potential for a child, too. Overall, pro-choice people believe that a mother’s rights and ability to make decisions outweighs the rights of a fetus.

Abortion is amongst the most controversial topics brought about in this era. The definition of abortion is; “The removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy.” Many people who believe that abortions should not be performed, often referred to as pro-life supporters, believe that it is immoral to kill a fetus, no matter the circumstances. On the other end of the spectrum are those who believe that abortions are not immoral and women should have the option to perform abortions, often referred to as pro-choice supporters. It is important for the U.S to permit clinics the ability to provide abortions legally and support a woman’s rights to decide to receive an abortion, because several negative consequences could arise if safe and legal abortions were suddenly unavailable to women. All women should be legally provided with the option to terminate their pregnancy in the case of rape, in order to prevent unsafe abortions, and to prevent a black-market epidemic of pills to induce a miscarriage.
