They have done incredible things to make their mark, and create a nation of freedom and liberty. However, there is one man that is the greatest American to ever live. He is a man who went through much suffering to make this country a better place. He faced much adversity, and overcame it to improve the lives of others. This man is Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin in Hardin County Kentucky. His childhood was not an easy one, and he went through much loss, but he gained much character from it all. In 1816, the Lincoln family had to move because they were in debt. It is also believed that Lincoln’s father, Thomas Lincoln’s, strong beliefs against slavery had upset many, and had gotten him in some trouble. Lincoln’s fathers beliefs significantly affected him, and made him believe that African Americans should be treated more fairly. When they were forced to move, they moved to Spencer County Indiana. Not many years after they had moved to Indiana, Abraham’s mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, died of milk sickness. When his mother died, Lincoln was only nine.
