There are many different words that make America stand out, but the ones that really stand out to me are adaptability and grit. The word grit represents the events and values that occurred during the age of reason. Also the word adaptability represents present day America. Grit, courage or to resolve also to have strength of character. This word best stands out for the age of reason because many of the people had strength of character and courage. People were free to pursue individual happiness and liberty which sounds like the word grit. The word adaptability best represents America in my opinion. America these days is always adjusting different laws, changing presidents every four or eight years, changing prices, taxes etc. There are many
America has many ideas, people, and values to which it can attribute its greatness. Every single person that has ever been born in this great country has impacted the United States in countless ways. Anyone who is fortunate enough to live the life that Americans get to live, are given the chance to create, change, or continue the legacy of America.
America is a gorgeous country, from her tall rocky mountains to her marvelous oceans. America has fought through the worst of battles, but she always comes out triumphant. America is a place where many individuals call home. She is a symbol of hope, acceptance, and new life. For years, people have been coming to her borders, looking for safety. America is an example to the world, of what a country should be to her people. America holds history, shows the present, and predicts the future. America is always moving forward; she is never content to stand still. However, America could not make all these changes by herself; it is her people that call themselves Americans that make her so great. American is an extremely generalized word. What makes
Americanism. According to the dictionary it means "a characteristic feature of English as used in the United States." To me it means a lot more than that. It means three main things to me like freedom, all of our needs are. When I hear the word freedom, I think about freedom of speech and the freedom of choice. In America, we have the freedom of speech. We can say what we want to say anytime we want to say it. The power of speech is often abused. People in America often do not realize how lucky they are to. Another thing that I think Americanism means is freedom of choice. From the time children are born and until they go off on their own, the parent or guardian tries to choose what is best for the child. Children choose their own destiny while
“I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process.”- Vincent Van Gogh. Grit is having the effort to achieve something despite the obstacles. Grit is an intense desire to achieve your goals. Grit is adapting well in the face of tragedy or trauma. Vincent Van Gogh was a man with an immeasurable amount of grit. Vincent Van Gogh used perseverance, passion, and resilience to overcome the hardship he faced in his life.
Grit is a predictor of academic, professional, and personal success. Grit can be defined as strength of character or the ability to overcome failure and continue to work toward success. People with grit are not always the people with the most natural ability, but their work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles allows them to achieve success. Grit is a very valuable characteristic in almost any venture, as it gives someone an advantage in overcoming the inevitable obstacles they will face. However, grit is much easier adopted when an individual has a growth mindset.
One must not focus narrowly on America to find this definition, but zoom out until the entire globe is in view to visualize it. From the youngest to the oldest, poorest to the wealthiest, or single orphan to the largest family to arrive on American shores, they are all changed somewhat, for better or worse, by the American experience. Admittedly, some may think this is too broad of a definition, or American Literature is undefinable. I will argue that as long as the idea of what America promises remains alive, all literature ever inspired by this dream will always be truly and exclusively
America was not always the successful country that it is today and some Americans were once not actually from the United States. Instead, the states stemmed off from different cultures around Europe, the land being split between many big contenders like Britain, Spain, and even France. The thirteen colonies were the start of the US and would eventually become rebellious enough to break away from the system that they had once lived under. The states undergone construction to build a new government and a new way of life for the generations that would come. After two hundred and thirty nine years of practicing and figuring out our way of life, America has both succeeded and dropped in many areas. The definition of America has certainly changed throughout the years, but one thing
America has changed over time. The change has made the U.S. what it is today. They have accomplished many things and helped many countries. For example they gave freedom to those who were fighting for it . They have fell and rise from damages towards them.
Now that I am older and a little wiser, what best describes Americans are our belief system and our ability to overcome obstacles and thrive. Our government is made of and by the people of America. Despite our differences, in America, if you work hard you can succeed. America is boundless, her tenacity is protected, and her essence is freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
America’s identity was shaped a lot in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s;the writing of the Monroe Doctrine, the interest in foreign affairs, and the Great Depression are all huge factors in that, and America has adjusted greatly because of that. There were many other things, such as the overall 1920’s, that shaped America’s identity as well.
The want for change and that chance to be different is an aspect of being an American. The opportunities that are present in America have helped shape the meaning of what it is to be called an American. The diversity of the people and the work within America shape the people living within. American “cities become increasingly mixed with immigrants from Asia, Africa and Latin America” (Keating and Karklis). The pride that is shown in how people live, and their actions reflect their own meaning of what it means to live in America. The strength of the people and the bonds that have been made also are part of the meaning of the name American. There are thousands of descriptions of what American means because America is so
How do you know beyond what you already know without expanding our knowledge, making discoveries? People know what they know based off of experience or receiving information from a knowledgeable person. People with raised in a concentrated society with one culture don't really adapt to new cultures and ideas easily. For example, my parents were raised in Haiti where there's one culture, one race, one society. Adapting to America's diverse culture and races was weird for them. The mentally they were raised with, what's right and wrong, stayed with them. They became aware of other's ideas and beliefs, but it didn't mean they'd pick it up and apply it to their lives... which they didn't.
When asked on what makes someone truly American, the answer you usually get is freedom, patriotism and security. Culture, defined by the mannerism of what a person does, cannot be condensed into a simple phrase or quality. In the past, other cultures such as the African and Native Americans were viewed as a nuisance to achieving Uniformity as an American Country, and were sought out and assimilated to try to fit in with the norm of society. Heritage and tradition from other countries should remain the same, and instead of conforming, the American culture can adapt other cultures to the American Ideology. Cultural adaptation is the catalyst for innovation and originality, avoiding conflict, and promoting the culture of the American Way.
The two characteristics from the list of chosen traits that best describe America are contemplation and compassion. These traits have always been present in history and our thoughts. Contemplation is a reflection of deep thought which would overall explain the Age of Reason. Compassion would explain the current events and the astounding shift of morals that have begun to shape the future.
Grit is the power of passion and perseverance. Passion and perseverance are not qualities that everybody has. Not everybody who sets a long-term goal achieves it. People who have passion and perseverance are most likely to succeed in life, because passion is what gives us the ability to stick to a goal for a long period of time, and perseverance is the motivation to continue pursuing our goals. Passion and perseverance are the bridges to achieve your goals. In the TED talk “Grit: the power of passion and perseverance” Angela Duckworth explain what will help you to succeed in life and she called it Grit, which she defined it as passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working hard to make that future a reality. Grit is living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint.
