I agree that the Industrial Revolution could be described as a mixed blessing. There are a couple of main reasons that makes this statement very true. There were many good results of the industrial revolution but there were also a couple of bad results. Some good results were that the population of the cities flourished extremely well. It brought people from rural areas into the city because that's where the heart of the machine made goods was located. It also created tons more jobs for the people. This allowed more people to be able to take care of their family and themselves because of their income that they were making from the jobs. It also made the nation more wealthy from all of the profit it was making off of its goods. New …show more content…
These were just a couple of reasons why I agree that the Industrial Revolution was a mixed blessing. Lucy Larcom believed that working at the mill benefited young women. She says that girls from the country or rural areas were more independent because of their living circumstances. People who live out in the rule areas can't really depend on others because they have to get their own work done on the farm or around the house. If you live in the city you don't have a farm to take care of so you don't really need to worry about that. She also said how girls never really had to work before so this new feeling of the few hours of work they did have was satisfaction to them. They didn't really like to think of it as a job or having to do it but they liked saying they were going out as hired help. She also compared working the mill to how a young man feels when he has to go do business. I don't really think that this feeling is typical because most girls might want to stick to doing their household work like they usually do because they didn't work back in the day. I think they would want to stick to this because it's something new if they were to work the mill and they might not want to step out of their comfort zone. On the other hand I can also see why this might be a typical feeling for some girls because they might actually want to try something new instead of doing the same old chores every day. For
As Stephen Gardiner once said, “The industrial revolution was another one of those extraordinary jumps forward in the story of civilization.” The Industrial Revolution was in fact an extraordinary jump in the development of the U.S. It created a foundation for what the U.S is today socially, economically, and politically. The Industrial Revolution played a major role in the industrialization and modernization and still has effects to this day. These effects lead to more trade, better transportation, and modernization. It also had had many negative effects on America and England as well. These effects mainly focus on the social side of the Industrial Revolution. These effects include child labor, unfair wage, poor living conditions and poverty. When both the positive and negative effects are put together as a whole, the positive effects outweigh the negative. Mainly because they had a bigger effect on America and the world as a whole, and still affect us today. Because of the Industrial Revolution wages are more fair, living conditions are better, Manufacturing has drastically improved and children are no longer allowed to work in factories.
The Industrial Revolution brought about a more advanced era with lasting effects. Due to these effects, we can live easier, more comfortable lives that last longer and are, in comparison, far better. Some of these effects are still evident today. However, not all of them were positive, nor were all of them negative. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because of poor living and working conditions, it was actually a positive thing for society. Industrialization’s positive effects included better business, a ready workforce, and more efficient machines, production, and transportation.
The Industrial Revolution brought about great changes in how goods were produced and consumed, but it also brought about social and political changes. Some were positive, such as machines relieving much of the toil previously placed on worker’s muscles. But there were also negative changes.
The Industrial Revolution began in England in the late 1700’s. The Industrial Revolution was a time of new inventions, products, and methods of work. The results of the Industrial Revolution led to many short and long-term positive and negative effects. These results have been assessed from many viewpoints such as the factory workers, the factory owners, the government, and other people who observed the conditions in industrial cities.
The Industrial Revolution was a good struggle that Britain had to go through. There were many endeavors that Britain faced. Britain’s Industrial Revolution was a positive outcome that had many negative attributes. Britain’s battle would be similar to running a cross-country race. During a race, you face many labors that you have to go through. Some of these would be feeling too tired, having pain in your legs, or feeling like you want to give up. Compared to Britain, these difficulties that someone has during a race are the hazardous factories or the unsafe working conditions in the coal mines.
Although the Industrial Revolution had many good things about it, it has more negative things than positive. The Industrial Revolution has more negative than positive. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of medical advances it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s negative effects were pollution a danger to environments, harsh working hours, and child labor.
There are those who see the Industrial Revolution as a negative part of history, though in reality it was a magnificent thing. With the new jobs, and affordable production of goods, America was advancing with flying colors. Without these fundamentals of the Industrial Revolution, America would not be close to as wealthy and powerful as it is today. The new jobs, laws, ways of production, and machines, helped America grow with confidence. The Industrial Revolution was arguably the most important events in American
During the 18th century, the Industrial Revolution changed how goods are produced and also changed the lives of the working class. Britain and France began to modernize and factories and towns began to become more urban. The industrial revolution had both positive and negative effects on our history. The Industrial Revolution had many positive impacts on Britain and France during its time.
The Industrial Revolution began in England during the late 1700s. It came with a wide range of both positive and negative effects for the economy and the people. Looking back from today, the Industrial Revolution was definitely a positive thing, as people now have a high standard of living with lots of conveniences. One must also acknowledge the people living during the Industrial Revolution and how they viewed the Industrial Revolution as a bad thing that came with many negative effects. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because of the terrible living conditions and hazardous working conditions, it was actually a positive thing for society. Industrialization’s positive effects
One example of why the Industrial Revolution was negative is that some of the factory workers were tired and it would cause them to finger and sometimes even limbs. This was horrible because they were working long hours. They would work up to 16 hours a day, with no break. By the time they would work on the machines they would be so exhausted that would lose focus and they would chop a finger or limb. This example shows the economic effects of the Industrial Revolution were negative because people would work long hours then working in the machines they could run a high risk of accidentally cutting a finger or limb off. This affected the workers because if the were to cut a limb off they would be able to do a lot of activities that they used to do. However the Industrial Revolution was mostly positive because assembly lines were invented. This was good because it sped up the rate of what cars were made. This effect is positive because before the assembly line it took a long to put something together. Also, factory workers were finishing things faster and they were making money for companies and leaving the customer happy too. This left the customer happy because they got something that way wanted fast and easy. For example, in image #4 they show an assembly line with workers putting together the cars. This is good for the customers because they are happy with the product and the factories make money
A regular shift for any factory worker was 12-16 hours a day, six days a week. The poem “My Boy” written by a working mother during the Industrial Revolution says that her “labor drives [her] forth…” (Document 2) until “…night when [she is] free.” (Document 2) She is “a stranger… to [her] child and [her child] one to [her].” (Document 2). This was not unheard of during this time. Parents and their children being driven away from each other to provide for the family. However, the mother working at the factory provided better financial opportunities for her family and in turn a higher standard of living. Elizabeth Bentley, a woman who testified on the child labor in Britain, when asked “what time [she] began work at the factory” (Documents 7) responded “when I was six years old” (Document 7). She worked in the mill “for about a year” (Document 7). Long hours and separation of family weren’t the only problem when it came to the Industrial Revolution. The use of child labor was also a significant
The Industrial Revolution all started because of the agricultural revolution. Well, here’s the problem: small land owners aka farmers still wanted their land, but they got kicked out to the city. These cities weren’t the best because people lived in crowded small homes. “Rich people” wanted to rule the world by opening factories and making the lower class people to work in it. These people worked more than twelve hours a day. This wasn’t fair because they were separated from their families. Their lives were just work. Also, they didn’t get a lot of sleep. While some argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because it made the economy grow, it was actually a negative thing for society. Industrialization’s
All in all, the second industrial revolution was essentially a positive thing because many benefits came out of it such as new ideas, innovations, and inventions. Every new thing they had discovered led to a newer discovery. This is why we have all of the advances in technology, machinery, and
The Industrial Revolution had many positive and negative impacts on society. The positive include cheaper clothes, more job opportunities, and improvement in transportation. And the negative would include exploitation of women and children, workers work long hours and environmental damages. These are just a few that I believe had an impact on the Industrial Revolution.
The Industrial Revolution could possibly be the most important event in the history of our world. Before it, people worked mostly on farms or sold things through the market that were hand crafted. This revolution brought about great change in the ways that we produce goods and the economies of the world. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because of the rough working and living conditions, it was actually a positive thing for society. Industrialization’s positive effects were an increased standard of living, better means of travel, and more developed countries with better economies.
