Use of Artificial Grass Artificial grass is a surface made of synthetic fibers that mimics the appearance of natural grass. It is most commonly used for sports that are normally played on natural grass. Artificial or synthetic grass; previously known as Astro Turf and now commonly referred to as artificial turf has many uses including being used on residential lawns, patios, boat decks, dog runs, nurseries and school playgrounds. While many maintain that natural grass provides a superior playing field, artificial grass has many advantages and few of the drawbacks of natural grass. A partial list of the advantages of artificial turf are described in the paragraph below. The author of “Grass Is Always Greener on the Artificial Lawn”, …show more content…
The super-rich will always play on real turf” (Lawton para. 18). The fact is, natural grass costs lots of money to maintain, so professional sports organizations realized that to become more profitable in the long run, they would have to invest in fields that rarely need to be repaired and maintained. Artificial grass can last a long time “And, while expensive, the life expectancy of artificial turf can be upwards of twenty-five years, making it a less costly alternative to real turf over its lifespan” (para. 16). Turf fields can also last possibly even up to two times longer than regular grass fields. “A new artificial turf football field will not have to be replaced for five years or more. A grass football field, on the other hand, must be maintained regularly if it is going to last more than two years” (Silverman para. 2). If people constantly use their money to keep their lawn maintained, why not invest in a lawn that does not require maintenance, last a very long time and that can even provide positive environmental benefits? Keeping a residential lawn Maintained can use a lot of time and effort. For example, Steve Silverman states “You will spend a lot more money to maintain a grass football field than you will a modern artificial turf field” (para. 2). With Natural grass undergoing regular practices Quality artificial grass is expensive but the total cost of ownership spread across five years makes it equivalent or cheaper than

To start off, grass fields are still used to play soccer on today. In order to keep costs down, many schools or companies don’t perform tests on their fields. They may not think they need it, however, fields could become too hard to even make playing possible.
One way to do this would be to document the number of man hours spent on maintaining lawns, but that statistic does not show up even once. Steinberg uses examples such as amounts of money spent on lawns and the environmental damage that lawns cause, but these are not proof of obsession, but rather more likely just neighborly adherence to appearances that benefit the overall community. Obsession is another level of engagement, and Steinberg does not make a strong case for the typical suburbanite being obsessed. He also dedicates an entire chapter to discussing the lawns at golf courses, but golf course managers maintain immaculate lawns because their income depends on it, not necessarily because they are obsessed with grass. Obsession implies something beyond landscaping professionalism. With entire chapters dedicated to such superficial examples, Steinberg’s argument looses credibility.

Furthermore, both Sir Walter lawn and Prestige Buffalo lawn are low maintenance lawns, meaning they require less watering, fertilising, and mowing compared to other lawn varieties. The chemical pesticide industry fails to address these issues and has made every effort to keep this information from the public.

FeildTurf is one of the most popular types of Astro Turf used by many professional sports teams. It is the Turf used by the New England Patriots, and also the most used field at Moses Brown, which is accounted for as the place the most injuries happen at Moses Brown (Maidment). The most impressive statistic that FieldTurf has to offer on their website is how environmentally friendly the company is. There is a record kept of how many gallons of water the company has saved by installing their turf fields that do not require a drop of water to thrive. To date the company has saved all their clients 25.94 billion gallons of water by choosing their product. Where there are more injuries on turf compared to grass fields, especially knee injuries, the vast amount of water, and money for grass maintenance bring positives to having a turf field. Many people have skills that allow them to complete a strenuous task. Kids may hate when they hear their father’s or mother’s voice telling them to do a chore. Most chores are not entertaining. Green and plush with a distinct pattern, there is nothing boring about a managed lawn. Learning how to mow lawn is an important skill, because almost everyone has a yard to maintain. If done correctly, mowing lawn can be an enjoyable task. Peacefully riding around on a mower in the fresh air and sunshine can be therapeutic. Sitting comfortably on a riding lawn mower is relaxing, although, the process of lawn mowing requires many precise steps.
Subject: Proposal to research total cost of turf field and the benefits of turf field to the college soccer team.
For example, “The average costs of installation and maintenance for natural grass fields were $325,000 and $27,000 while the average costs of installation, maintenance, and resurfacing for synthetic infill fields were $1,212,000, $7,000, and $377,000. With the average cost of a single year of maintenance for five natural grass fields was $35,000 while the average cost of a single year of maintenance for the 10 synthetic infill fields was $7,000 (Daviscourt 1).” In other words, even though turf fields are costly at the beginning, for 10 synthetic fields it is 5 times less the cost than 5 grass fields. This is important because if Rocket booster stadium upgrades the school would be saving $28,000 in savings on field maintenance annually. L.B. Daviscourt goes on to say that “The average cost of a 20-year maintenance cycle for the five natural grass fields was $903,000. The average cost of a 20-year maintenance cycle for the 10 synthetic infill fields was $1,952,000. The average on synthetic infill fields was two times as much the average for natural grass fields (Daviscourt 3).” This shows that the original cost to the amount of players is less for turf fields since there is many more activities on turf fields. Therefore Rocket Booster Stadium should upgrade to turf because field management is 5x cheaper, fields are weather resistant, and have safer
The consumer lawn care market is big business in Canada with Canadians spending nearly $2.3 billion in 1995. If HydroCan targets the consumer market, the company will be competing primarily with fertilizers which accounted for 52% of $620 million in lawn maintenance sales in 1995. Not only does the consumer market have high expenditure, it also has competition with two top firms controlling approximately 50% of the total consumer market. Current prices are based on relative market share and strength, with the market
