When thinking about a trip to the movie theater, what comes to mind? Most may think of the delicious, perfectly cooked, buttered popcorn, and huge movie screen with surround sound. While others may think of the obnoxiously loud atmosphere and inconvenient show times. Everyone has their opinion on which movie viewing option they think is better; the movie theater, or home. When it “boils down” to the facts, it is not hard to see why staying at home is the prefered movie-watching experience over the the movie theater experience, the reasons why this may be so is the cost, the inconvenience of show times, and viewing options
The Cost
The first point to consider is the cost. Movie theater tickets and concession prices are always on the rise.

The Show Times
Another point to consider is the inconvenient show times. Often, movie theater showtimes seem to be impossible to work around or plan for. This can especially be the case for people who work a job during the day. For example, if a woman wanted to go see a movie with her friend after work, the planning around the movie theater showtimes becomes very tedious quickly. If the woman gets off at five, then that automatically knocks out the 5:00 movie viewing time. The next available show time isn't until 7:30, but she has work the next day and she needs to get home at a decent hour in the day. Therefore she has to cancel her plans with her friend solely due to the fact that the movie theater only had certain viewing times that weren't catering to her schedule. On the contrary, show times at home are a “24-7” deal. Anytime a person feels like watching a movie at home is the perfect time. We are able to watch virtually any movie at any time with the click of a remote button or the tap of an app on our smart phones. Therefore, making the home movie viewing experience the ultimate choice because of the convenient “24-7” showtimes.
The Viewing Options
The last point to consider is the viewing options. According to Pew Research Center (2006) 58% of people don't go out to the movie theater more often is due to the fact that there are too few good movies to see( pg 3.) And it's not hard to see
A second way for a company to create a competitive advantage in the movie exhibition business is to offer an outstanding customer experience. Customer experience is something that is intangible and cannot be easily duplicated by competitors. Let’s examine the current experience for a customer in a movie theater. The ticket price is high, the concession offerings are few and over-priced, the seats are uncomfortable, the advertisements before a movie can sometimes last 15 or 20 minutes, the other patrons as well as the staff are often rude, the glow of cell phones is almost impossible to ignore, and most movies are all special effects with nearly no substance. Why on earth would anyone pay to go to the movies? I have not paid to go to the movie theater in several years. Not because I can’t afford to go, but because of the terrible experience I have while I’m there. For me, spending
Modern technology isn't disappearing and the need for movie theaters will continuously decline. If movie theater owners take the time to examine several of these options they will certainly find one that functions for them and begin to earn a revenue that is truly theirs.
Revised: August 28, 2002 In April 2001, Matt Heyman, co-founder of Cinemex, the largest chain of movie theaters in Mexico City, looked out the window of his office and pondered the future of his company. In just seven years, Heyman and his partners had nurtured Cinemex from a student idea into the largest theater chain in Mexico City, but they faced new challenges every day. Many of these challenges came from competitors. For years competitors ran old, poorly-maintained theaters, but in recent months they had begun to imitate Cinemex’s top-of-the-line exhibition venues. Their latest tactic: offering two tickets for the price of one on Wednesdays. Heyman wondered whether Cinemex should
There can be disadvantages to having outside food. There may be people who are allergic to the food you bring from the outside. The theater can also go out of business for the lack of money. Sneaking food in the movies is bad.
| Drive-in theaters were perfect for the suburban family because they were so cheap and close that parents didn’t have to drive all the way to the city to see a movie. Their popularity faded once property value increased and color television and VCRs were introduced.
Sarah Moran continues to state in her article about how much easier it is to rent or own movie and watching it at home where most televisions are flat and widescreen. The TV’s we have now
With the advancements in home entertainment systems, consumers are investing thousands of dollars into their own home viewing systems. They have several options to stream video content into the comfort of their own homes. Home entertainment systems have also made a large impact on the theater industry. In 2005, this technological advancement was the most sought after electronic system for new homes. It seems that consumers have finally said no to the rising price of movie tickets and concession stand snacks and beverages.
The forces that are driving change are more than likely going to be unfavorable to the movie rental industry considering the convenience and included perks of choosing them. I’ve had experience in the movie rental industry
No matter where one decide to watch a movie, whether at home or at the cinema, hopefully one is still doing something fun and relaxing. When deciding, think about the advantages and disadvantages of each before you make your choice. The decision is to be made by the one about to watch the movie. When the decision is about to be made, there is no need for hesitation and hope the decision made will be the best one made.
4. The bargaining power of buyers: The outlook for the target market isn’t favorable for the movie industry because it will not be growing as fast as the overall population. Buyer power is a strong force because of the target market and several other factors including: the undifferentiated product offered, switching to an alternative is simple and low cost, and customers can stay home and watch movies. The consumers are also complaining about concession and ticket costs, along with the advertisements before the film is shown.
Watching a film on TV is better than watching in theaters this how I’m going to prove my comparisons. It's annoying when you hear from friends what happens in the movie and it ruins the whole thing. It just isn't the same! It depends on, how good your surround system is and how big your TV is, and economic hardships today. It does not mean that the enjoyment of watching movies needs to be sacrificed. There is something to be said for big screen viewing; however, the home provides a comfortable, intimate, and common place for families to enjoy classic or newly released movies. Choosing to watch a movie at home is comfortable,
Most people who attend movies at a theater have long believed that the movies are played off of a DVD player of some sorts. However, that could not be further from the truth. Up until 2012 theaters played movies that were on 35 millimeter film. Which was a lengthy process to assemble and caused most theater an enormous amount of headaches thanks to all the numerous problems that occurred. Everything involved in putting them together had to be meticulously done. Each reel came unattached from each other they all had to put together by a method called splicing, which is film tape that holds the film together. To add to everything about putting the movie together the headache does not stop there as soon as the movie started there was no way to

Before the advent of movie rental stores, to watch a new movie, people had to go to theatres or cinemas spending a lot of money. Video rental was the answer to the new needs. Since the 90s, video rental industry has become a very big business; in those years, rental prices rose as more and more people began renting movies. At the same time, new players entered the market creating strong competition inside the industry. In the last years, the field of home entertainment has changed dramatically because of the presence of Internet and new technologies (Recorded DVD & Video in the United States, 2009).
People watch movies for all different reasons, for entertainment, relaxation, humor, and even pleasure. For instance, going to a movie on a date or on a family outing can be fun or entertaining. Although going to a movie theater has its benefits, watching movies at home has numerous benefits from watching movies at a theater. In contrast there isn’t any distraction when watching the movie at home, being able to watch the movie at any time or place and not having to pay for over price foods or tickets.
