A major public health challenge facing the people of Honduras is the issue of household air pollution (HAP). HAP is a dangerous form of environmental health hazard, so much so that the World Health Organization (WHO) has called it “the most important global environmental health risk today”. HAP is air pollution that is produced inside the home due to cooking, lightening, and heating needs and is typically the result of burning biomass fuels such as wood or coal, which produces “products of incomplete combustion such as carbon monoxide and particulate matter (PM).” Behaviors such as smoking indoors also contribute to poor indoor air quality. The worldwide impact of HAP is massive, with the WHO estimating that a total of 4.3 million deaths were linked to HAP in 2012. Honduras is part of this global burden of disease, as over half of Honduras’s population cooks with biomass, placing thousands at risk. The overall trend in health ailments in Honduras is one of epidemiological transition. Essentially, Honduras is currently seeing a rise in noncommunicable diseases (NCD) while the burden of infectious disease persists. HAP is contributing to this rise in NCD. People in Honduras between 30 and 70 years old have a 16% chance of dying from the four main NCDS, which include cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and chronic respiratory diseases. There are various types of air pollution contributors in California such as fire generated pollutants and vehicle traffic, which add particulate matter and carbon monoxide into the air we breathe. According to an article by Union of Concerned Scientists (Cars, trucks, and air pollution, 2014) particulate matter is made up of fine particles soot and metal that can pose serious threats to human health when deep in the lungs. Other pollutants emitted from vehicles are: nitrogen oxide which lowers the body’s defense system against respiratory infections such as pneumonia, carbon monoxide which blocks oxygen from reaching vital organs, sulfur dioxide which is emitted by both power plants and vehicles affect children and asthmatics, and hazardous air pollutants (toxics) which are chemicals that are linked to cancer, birth defects and other illnesses (Union of Concerned Scientists, 2014).
Air Pollution today has lead CDC's fight against environmental -related respiratory illness, including asthma.An estimated number of 6.5 million deaths are attributed each year to poor air quality, making this the world's largest threat to human health.According to the World Energy Outlook and the IEA estimate that death due to household air pollution in Africa may decrease by 110,00 to 2040.However, due to economic growth, urbanization and automobile emissions, outdoor air pollution may rise from 300,00 to 450,000 over the same period. Arizona is on the rise as one of the fastest metropolitan areas in the United States of America. In fact, in 2015 Forbes Magazine ranks Phoenix, Arizona as the 11th fastest growing city in the U.S.1 This growth is due the unprecedented resources and growing opportunities in the state of Arizona. With all of these opportunities come more production, which means more emissions from various industries and cars, more fossil fuels burned, and household and farming chemicals added to the sky. All of these are examples of pollution; which is one the sacrifices that comes with being a large city that is emerging. Pollution is defined as the action or process of making land, water, air, etc., dirty and not safe or suitable to use.2 We understand that Phoenix is a rapidly growing city, but they should be able to grow without being a detriment to the environment and health of their citizens. The purpose of my report is to examine the problem of air pollution in Phoenix, Arizona and look at solutions to fix this problem.
Most people never stop to think about the sanitation of the air around them. The only places that people ruminate over air quality are largely populated states and cities. One of these places is California. Ominous clouds of smog and polluted air constantly hover over the citizens. These people don’t ever look up and worry, because smog is a usual appearance. This issue destroys not only the earth and its atmosphere, but the very center of our lives: our bodies’ health. Particulate pollutants are like the retroviruses of the world: well-rounded and dangerous. Air pollution is the largest ecological issue of our time because the contaminated air lingers all over the world constantly being augmented to, and further threatening the world and those who lives in it.
To begin, Hillsborough County in Florida is home to downtown Tampa which is one of the major cities in the state. With having big cities in your local areas comes with some side effects. Tampa is related to many air quality issues in the state. Tampa is a continuously growing city, as people relocate to the area, many things must happen to accommodate the growth in population. Most of which contributes to of the air quality standards in our area because of the need for additional roads, and numerous new housing developments to be built, increasing the amount of power plants to power the many new houses.

There are two types of air pollution, Smog, or “ground-level ozone,” as it is more wonkily called, occurs when emissions from combusting fossil fuels react with sunlight and Soot, or “particulate matter,” is made up of tiny particles of chemicals, soil, smoke, dust, or allergens, in the form of gas or solids, that are carried in the air.
The US air emission data employed in this study is obtained from the US Environmental Protection Agency’s national emission inventory (USEPA 2006; 2009), covering all anthropogenic emissions of six air pollutants (SO2, PM2.5, PM10, NOx, VOC, and NH3) in the 48 states of the US (excluding Alaska and Hawaii). The gross external damage (GED) is estimated by Muller et al. (2011). The 2002 industry level GEDs are identified by a six-digit industry code from the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). In total, there are about 840 NAICS industries included.
Air pollution has been an ongoing issue for decades. With a vast amount of causes, such as: burning fossil fuel, manufacturing, and wildfires; it is hard to completely eliminate air pollution, but something can be done to lessen the severity of air pollution. Long exposure to poor air quality leaves the human respiratory system at risk.
Since California's Central Valley is responsible of supplying most of America with its nuts, fruits, and vegetables, a significant amount of pesticides has to be used in order for them to maintain all of it. Cities such as Modesto, Bakersfield and Fresno are known to be the biggest farm towns in the state which plays a significant role in air pollutions due to the vegetation that is being taken place in these areas. Pesticide spraying is used on farms in order to get rid of and kill toxic, living things. Although pesticide spraying is needed in order for farmers to take care of their crops, they still have a large amount of harm towards the environment. Pesticides actually contaminate the air we breathe and have ingredients in them that stay in the atmosphere causing more air pollutions.
Air pollution is considered the presence of a harmful substance in the air. “All aerobic biological system use oxygen as an essential part of their physiological cellular metabolic processes (Valavanidis et. al 2013).”With the inclusion of oxygen within our biological systems come complications. More specifically, air pollution has been deemed hazardous to human health. Air pollution is a complex and abundant mixture of pollutants. The combination of matter includes particulate matter, chemical substance, biological materials as well as particles that are large enough to be seen with the naked eye. Regardless the type of particles it consists of, particulate matter is associated with triggering serious health complications. There is an upsurge in awareness of adverse effects on health due to both acute and chronic exposure to particulate matter. Furthermore, epidemiological as well as toxicological studies continue to discover a correlation between particle pollution and mortality. Outdoor air pollution, is not the only air pollution that chokingly grips developing countries, indoor air pollution also rids the air of clean breathing. Mostly over looked, and unconsidered when you think of air pollution in developing countries. Yet, indoor air pollution, or household pollution, is deadly as outdoor air pollution and possibly worse. Indoor air pollution affects a massive amount of people by causing health issues, and contributing to the death rate. Indoor air pollution contributes. The ecosystem provides its own bio-indicator called a lichen. Lichens consist of two organisms, a fungi and a cyanobacteria (algae) which grow symbiotically. Lichens while they grow symbiotically their relationship of interaction can be described as mutualism. Three basic types of lichens include foliose, crustose, and fruticose. Lichens are durable and can grow in harsh environments where there is little or no soil. Lichens can tolerate severe temperatures both hot and cold. Despite their durability lichen are not impervious, many are sensitive to air pollution because they are dependent on moisture from rain for growth. This paper mainly intensifies on the use of CNG instead of Petroleum-based fuels like petrol and diesel. It compares all of the above with respect to pollution control as well as the expenses associated with their use to suit the general public. This paper provides the current status of the use of these fuels and their preferences.
The article starts off with a photo of the Robert W. Scherer power plant in Georgia, which burns 12 million tins of coal every year. This plant happens to be the largest emitter of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. Coal provides 40% of the worlds power needs, but it also produces 39% of the global CO2 emissions. With 8 billion tons of coal burned annually it is by far the dirtiest fossil fuel, killing thousands with mining accidents and air pollution. The consequences of our coal usage include mountaintop removal mining, which removes entire mountaintops and places it into the valley; this leads to acidification of streams due to the chemicals used in the mining process. This is because coal use is full of externalities that we try not to think about, because we like the fact that we have power whenever we need it.
