Alexander the Great was born in 356 BC to King Phillip II of Macedonia and Olympias. King Phillip was killed in 336 BC just two years after he had conquered Greece. Alexander was twenty years old when his father was killed, but being young did not stop him from being the greatest ruler in the ancient world. Alexander’s experience when it comes to history is astonishing. Alexander the Great warrants the epithet “the Great” because of his leadership, his successfulness, and his dedication.
Alexander’s leadership was unique and distinguished him from other rulers. Alexander was always in front leading not matter what the circumstances was, and if the army had to go through brutal moments so did he. Alexander wanted to do more than what his dad did, and pointing that out, greatness implies more than conquest. He had this ambition to continue on conquering every piece of land he could get to, and to govern his empire the right way. To point out, Plutarch declared that Alexander did not listen to Aristole when he told him how to treat the people such as the Greeks and Barbarians (Plutarch 4). A ruler that wants to accomplish great things has to make good decisions. Plutarch said that if Alexander had not had his mind set on what he wanted to do, his empire would have been a disaster (Plutarch 4). Alexander wanted his world to be under the same kind of government. Plutarch stated, that if Alexander did not win over his people by urging them, he would bring them all together to look at the world as one, and tell them that he would protect them (Plutarch 4). If he had not died, the world would be under one form of government. Alexander was a very dedicated man, and when he wanted something done he always found a solution to make it
