Alexander the Great
Alexander the great is a very important person in history. He was one of the most powerful rulers ever and was the king of Macedonia. Alexander live from 356 - 323 BC.
He should be someone that everyone learns about because he had so many achievements and was such a smart and powerful ruler despite his young age. “He is regarded as one of history’s brilliant military leaders and most powerful rulers” (Fogarty).
Early Life.

He was 32 at the time. He said to may have come down with malaria, but his death is very suspicious. Many people think that he may have been poisoned or such but as far as we know he died from a sickness. Alexander was never forgotten and we still learn about him today. His tomb is a big tourist attraction. Other important emperors such as Ptolemy, Julius Caesar and Caligula all traveled there to pay their respects (Foner). Alexander build a very large, strong empire, but once he died it fell within 20 years (Grossman). There are legends wrote about Alexander's early life in Plutarch's Parallel Lives. Philip had a white horse named Bucephalus and he could not tame it. Alexander broke the horse and tamed it. Philip then told Alexander that he needed a larger kingdom because Macedonia was not big enough to reflect how great he was. Ptolemy was one of Alexander's generals. After his death, there have been over 100 operas about him, but they are not to popular at the time. Other stories were told about Alexander's kindness. After Alexander had won his war against Darius he treated his family kindly. When Darius was killed by his own men, his last request was for Alexander to care for his family, which he did (Dow). An Athenian orator once said when informed of Alexander’s death...“What? Alexander dead? Impossible! The world would reek of his corpse!” (Fogarty). Alexanders city Alexandria was built on top of a village called rhacotia. It’s perimeter was laid by dropping seeds, and it had wide streets with a rectangular grid. The city plans were drawn up by dinocrates as the shape of a greek garment (Dow).
Many people think Alexander's death is very suspicious. He died when he was 32 years old and no one knows the exact reason. some people say it may have been malaria or some other kind of sickness and some other people think he could have been poisoned. As far as We Know he died from a sickness but there is no particular evidence showing what sickness it would have been. There were probably many people who did not like Alexander. lots of people probably saw him as very powerful and intimidating. There's definitely a chance Alexander was poisoned but there is nothing to prove that at this point in
According to Doc F, Alexander's empire only lasted 10 years without an heir because Alexander didn't leave an heir. He thought he was very strong and would not die but he did die in June of 323 BCE. Alexander's generals split up the land and then it began to fall into pieces because there was no heir. According to Doc A, he wasn't able to keep his army to keep going on with him. His army rebelled to go on any further and so Alexander wasn't able to control his army. He made his soldier's keep on going. According to Doc B, he tortured many people and killed and crucified people without hesitating. Lastly, in Doc C, Alexander was able to get more lands easily because the people surrendered without a fight. Alexander had a big ego that made him stronger but made him kill more people instead of doing other things. For example, Alexander could have made the people live instead of killing them.
He conquered 2,000,000 square miles of land before he died, and the size of the Roman Empire at its greatest is 2,200,000 so Alexander did most of the expansion. He found about 70 cities, one of them was Alexandria one of the most popular and wealthiest cities at the time in Egypt. He has killed roughly 100,000 enemies before his death. Alexander influenced many things, such as the religion Buddhism in India and the Greeks official language of Jordan stayed for 1,000 years. He influenced music, dances and the worship of his gods with India.
Alexander inherited Macedonia at age twenty, and he set out to conquer Persia immediately which was considered the most powerful kingdom in the world. Alexander was to born to be a king. He was taught by Aristotle training and excelling in politics, sports, and warfare. He even eventually grew such a high belief of himself that he considered himself to be a god. News spread of his great power intimidating many rulers resulting in some of them surrendering. From many years of fighting he sustained many injuries weaking hi health. He became ill while feasting and later died at age thirty three. Some people believed he may have died from Malaria but no one can ever be sure. One thing that will also remain a mystery is why Alexander did not name an heir to the throne. Therefor, his officers split up the land causing the kingdom to weaken and eventually fall. Alexander the Great was great because he was intelligent, accomplished many things, and was a high quality leader.
Alexander the Great was the king of Macedonia, conqueror of the Persian Empire, and one of the greatest military geniuses of all times. Even at an early age, Alexander had the promise to become a great leader. Through all his victories and conquests, he has become a great hero and has had a large impact on history. That is why I chose he book Alexander the Great, by J.R. Hamilton for my review. Hamilton does a very good job with the story of Alexander the Great.
Throughout the history of humanity, there have been countless leaders, conquerors, kings, or people of note. They are all noteworthy because of their achievements, or maybe their lack of achievements in a time where history was being made. These men and women are remembered because they accomplished something worth remembering. One of the most polarizing characters of the ancient world is Alexander of Macedonia, better known as simply Alexander the Great. With a name like that, one knows that Alexander must have done something during his lifetime that would still be remembered centuries later. What made Alexander so extraordinary is just how driven he was, how he conquered most of the known world by the time he was thirty-two. Alexander wanted to seize the Macedonian throne, unite many people under one rule, exact revenge on Persia, and to take more land for his nation. He may not have achieved all his goals before his untimely death, but he accomplished so much that his legacy has lived on for thousands of years, and will continue to live on for thousands more.
Alexander the Great was born from King Philip II of Macedonia and Olympias, princess of Epirus in 365 BCE. At a young age Alexander was taught by Aristotle. He taught Alexander politics, sports, warfare, as well as academic subjects. When King Philip was assassinated in 336 BCE, Alexander inherited his father’s army and empire. Using his outstanding knowledge, and his father’s great army, Alexander was able to conquer a great amount of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Alexander was substantially great considering he protected his empire, motivated his troops, and impacted cultural spread(ww).

Alexander the Great is a one of the most successful leaders and conquers of his period. Alexander dominated with the most powerful military with knowledge of all new advanced technology. The commander conquered Syria, Egypt and Mesopotamia. He used different types of strategies that influenced others later. He was a strong leader, but every leader has their downfall and makes mistakes.

Alexander the great was considered to many as the greatest military leader of all time. Much of his life is well known but there are a lot of things people don’t know about him. Some of this stuff includes that Alexander’s body was preserved in honey when he died, his tomb where he is buried disappeared and he never lost a battle in 15 years of battles.
