Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass and The Wizard of Oz are fictional stories about the coming of age. Children relate to these stories and admire both Alice and Dorothy. In what can be assumed are Alice’s and Dorothy’s dreams, we see various anthropomorphic creatures and animals. There imaginary worlds lead both girls to face situations in which they must think maturely and at the same time lose a bit of their innocence, similar to when a young child takes their first step in becoming their own mature and independent person. When both girls admit for the first time they were not who they were when they first entered their dreams, they took their first step into a new world of decision making and maturity. Alice and Dorothy mature throughout the story and leaving behind the dependence and innocence every person once had. Both girls are coming to the age of independence. Throughout Alice’s and Dorothy’s journey in wonderland it can be seen that each girl loses the air of innocence they had at the beginning of the story. The stories, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll and The Wizard of Oz film directed by Victor Fleming, all represent a coming of age story where a young girl must go on a journey, let go of her childishness, and mature and face her fears in order to find their way home.
Distinguishing what is a dream and what is reality can be difficult. Most times it is obvious that a dream is only a dream.
Descartes first presents this idea with the statement "How often does my evening slumber persuade me of such ordinary things as these: that I am here, clothed in my dressing gown, seated next to the fireplace -- when in fact I am lying undressed in bed!" (Descartes 490). By using an experience of his own, Descartes shows how dreams can be asymptotic to reality. Descartes implies that he often sits next to his fireplace, clothed in his dressing gown, so his dream that he is doing so is very believable. In conclusion, one cannot distinguish between a dream and reality because the gradient between them is so finitely small at times.
At the mention of the name Alice, one tends to usually think of the children’s stories by Lewis Carroll. Namely, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are two classic works of children’s literature that for over a century have been read by children and adults alike. These two stories tell the tale of a young girl named Alice who finds herself in peculiar surroundings, where she encounters many different and unusual characters. Although Alice is at the centre of both stories, each tale is uniquely different in its purpose, characters and style.
Dreaming is yet another state of consciousness. A dream is simply an unfolding episode of mental images that involve characters and events. Dreams usually tend to occur during REM sleep but can occur during NREM sleep as well. We dream on a variety of topics, subjects, and individuals. No dream can be exactly interpreted or defined, therefore people have always been fascinated with what, why, and how we dream. An unpleasant and almost terrifying type of dream is a nightmare. This is a very vivid, almost real
When a person watches a movie, and a scene with dim lighting shows up on the screen, that usually makes them feel tense and scared about what is going to happen next. Directors use cinematic techniques to convey feelings or connect with the viewer. In the movies Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland, and Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton uses flashbacks, diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, and high key and low key lighting to show a characters’ thoughts or past, create the mood of a scene, create suspense, and let the viewers know about the characters’ as if they personally knew each other.

In the novel, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the main character, Alice, undergoes quite a change. During the time the novel was published, parts of the world were in the victorian era. The Queen at the time was Queen Victoria, in which the era was named after. During this era, knowledge, class and reason were greatly valued, and stressed. This time period ended in the year of Queen Victoria’s death. Throughout the novel, there are many ways that show how Alice begins to understand the world in adult terms, matures, and grows.
Our research topic was on how influential the Wizard of Oz was and how its impact changed the entertainment and dramatic arts industries. We decided to choose a topic that was interesting and something that almost everyone would have some knowledge about. In our project we addressed the characters, music, and the values of the film. The Wizard of Oz is one of the most influential films in history. It was one of the first movies to be filmed in color and whole production cost set a record at MGM studio with the movie costing 2.8 million dollars to make. The success of this film opened so many doors for other movies. Something we also found to be interesting was that The Wizard of Oz was the first videocassette tape released by MGM and CBS Home Video nearly forty years after it hit the big screen.
Dreams come in all shapes and forms. Every dream experience falls into one of the following categories: Prophetic Dreams, Release Dreams, Wish Dreams, Informative and Problem solving dreams, and Astral Visits. So many people take dreams for granted or think they do not mean anything, but they do. Dreams are incredible when you learn what they are, mean and why we dream at all.
The concept of dreaming versus reality, in plain thought, seem very distinct. You are in the state of reality from when you get up in the morning to when you fall asleep at night. Then, while you are asleep, your brain produces thoughts, images, and emotions because it is still function and this is considered to be dreaming. Notable French philosopher, René Descartes dedicated a great amount of time to studying, questioning, and describing this phenomenon. His hypothesis cause supporters and readers to question their very state of being and the nature of reality.
Lewis Carroll’s Alice and Frank Baum’s Dorothy are two of the most well-known and well-loved heroines of all time. At first glance, both Alice and Dorothy appear to be rather accurate renditions of actual little girls who embark on their own adventures in strange and fantastical lands. However, closer scrutiny reveals that only one of these characters is a true portrayal of what a little girl is really like, while the other is but a fulfillment of what most girls would only dream of being like.
Red, a magical colour of fairy tale land, is a glimpse that you never forget. Through the fairy tale land, you will see a little girl who always wears a red hood, a pair of red dancing shoes with bloody legs and a furious Queen yells ‘Off with their heads!’ with a flamingo hold in her hand.
Dorothy: Dorothy is a little girl who lives in Kansas who lives with her aunt and uncle. After a cyclone hits her aunt and uncles home, causing her to land in Oz. Along with her dog, Toto she goes and seeks to Emerald City to ask the Wizard of Oz on how to return to Kansas

When people think of a wonderland, they mostly think of something mystical and magical with flying fairies and pixie dust but that is not always the case. Alice and Wonderland and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children are one the few movies that does not show their wonderland as part of a fairytale. Alice from Alice and Wonderland and Jack from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children both share similar experiences.
