Lesson 3
Subjective, or objective, perhaps both, using a Star Wars bed sheet for the subject along with two different sources to gain our information will form a comparison, a clear distinction between the styles of analysis. “All My Life”, written by John Freyer, along with the E-bay web site is where the data will be accumulated, same item, yet exceedingly different ways of letting their audience identify what’s for sale. John Freyer’s, work appears to be overwhelmingly subjective, emphasizing the personal history than the actual features of it. E-bay, unquestionably objective, with experienced sellers who are perspicuous with details in the description of the items, awards the buyer a distinct account of the seller’s merchandise. However, there’s only one link that unites them, they both provide the principal idea of what they are trying to sell which includes a full/queen size Star Wars sheet therefore I don’t believe this

In his account to explain where he acquired it, at a thrift store, it compels him to share his objection to buying undergarments, and linens from there thus he decided to utilize it as a “filter”. Of course, he felt it necessary to point out what “filter” meant and his link between the “filter” and the sheet was concerning a future date to George’s cheeseburgers. In conclusion he tells the reader that the sheet created a “filter” laying on the top of his bed which remains there to judge the girls’ reaction, if she didn’t appreciate it there would be no second date. Nevertheless, that’s all subjective, nothing to aid in the sale of the Star Wars sheet. Writing to the subjective caters to the one who enjoys a story, not too particular about the exact details of the subject still appreciates the personal

According to Foner, both Lincoln and Douglas disagree on the account of the intentions of the founding fathers right to “local self-government”.
Keeper’n Me portrays numerous distinctive and related themes throughout the course of the novel, some more prominent than others. With the inclusion of interesting topics such as effects of residential schools, the importance of oral traditions, maintaining balance to find yourself, culture or language, and Elders, this work outlines exceptional ideas allowing readers to learn important factors all while keeping a light heart due to the incorporation of humour. Wagamese introduces ideas on Aboriginal history with residential schools and foster care through a tone in his writing which allowed readers to acknowledge how it caused families to break apart, children to become distant from their own culture and way of life, and furthermore how the idea of “beating the Indian out of the Indian” was such a major controversy. The author also regards the importance of teaching through oral traditions making it clear to the reader of the significance of passing on traditional understanding, and how it is one of the guiding aspects of the Ojibway culture. The Ojibway honour the traditional way of storytelling through means of oral tradition as it provides a more personal way to pass on words of wisdom and tradition.
Throughout history the US has fought many wars for example, the US revolution, the Civil War, WWI, WWII and the cold war these are all wars, but none of them compare to the war between the US and Vietnam. Why would the world most powerful country see Vietnam as a threat? This is the question that many were asking. After World War II US feel threaten by the rise of communism in Asia Vietnam just happen to be one of these countries that US feel threaten by. Many people refer to the US and Vietnam war as one of the most bloodies war the US have ever fought. I got the chance to interview Sharon Meeker who happen to live during the Vietnam War. Each description of an item Freyer listed for auction included either a personal story or entertaining information on why someone should purchase this item. As I was reading through these descriptions I found them written mostly in subjective manner with some objective points compared to today’s E-bay style auctions, which is mostly targeting the buyer looking for objective descriptions. Since Freyer style of descriptions were so unusual, here are three examples to demonstrate the differences to
On the “fine yellow shoes” in “all my life for sale” the author utilizes a subjective description. He firsts describes how he got the shoes, he then continues describing how he felt wearing the shoes. This advertisement feels it is directed to a known audience, it seems like the author wants the shoes to belong to someone he knows well. He even mentions he will send a picture of him wearing the shoes for the buyer to keep.

It is evident that there are still a number of falsehoods that contribute to the adversity many people of color have to overcome in this country. Yale Law School professor, Harlon L. Dalton and Sociologists Naomi Gerstal and Natalia Sarkisian dissect two such falsehoods in their respective essays. In his essay, “Horatio Alger” Dalton takes on the rags-to-riches myth commonly portrayed in Horatio Alger’s works of fiction. Likewise, Gerstal and Sarkisian’s study on Black, White, and Latino families reveals data that debunks the widely held belief that families of color are weaker and more disorganized than their white counterparts. While both essays examine myths that negatively affect Black and Latino people, the authors often use different

In the book Behind the Beautiful Forevers, author Katherine Boo sheds light on the topic of corruption. Corruption is something that is seen everywhere, but varies in depth. She chooses to focus on India, because she is fascinated with how so many people are impoverished while others prosper. Boo is able to convey both the benefits and downfalls of corruption within a community by deciding to only focus on a sliver of people from a single slum. She chooses to focus on the citizens from a slum called Annawadi due to sense of possibility in the community. Boo decides to watch this community for several years to see who gets ahead, who doesn’t,
While it may be easier to persuade yourself that Boo’s published stories are works of fiction, her writings of the slums that surround the luxury hotels of Mumbai’s airport are very, very real. Katherine Boo’s book “Behind the Beautiful Forevers – Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity” does not attempt to solve problems or be an expert on social policy; instead, Boo provides the reader with an objective window into the battles between extremities of wealth and poverty. “Behind the Beautiful Forevers,” then, exposes the paucity and corruption prevalent within India.
In the first chapter of this novel, we get introduced to the protagonist and narrator of the novel, Holden Caufield, from a rest home in which he has been sent for therapy. He refuses to talk about his early life, although he does explain that his older brother “D.B” sold out to writing for Hollywood. His story and breakdown begins in the school of Pencey Prep, a boarding school set in Pennsylvania. The setting for the early chapters in the narration is his "terrible" school, to which he describes the atmosphere to be “as cold as the December air on Thomsen Hill”. Holden’s student career at Pencey Prep has been destroyed by his refusal to apply himself. We know this after Holden explains he failed four of his five subjects, passing only English. Due to his lack of effort and determination, he was forbidden to return to the school after the term. The Saturday before Christmas vacation began, Holden overlooked the football field, where Pencey usually
What is the meaning of life? According to Chris McCandless living free and not conforming to the natural way of life is the meaning to life, as shown in the book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. Similar to Chris McCandless, Ralph Emerson believes that following your dreams and making your own trail is the meaning of life according to his short story “Self-Reliance” by Ralph Emerson. The purpose of man's existence is to avoid conformity and following one's own instincts and ideas.
