Ambiance Committee An ambiance is the character or atmosphere of a place. In this case it’s the ambiance of the 1920’s. The 1900’s was a crazy and wild time. Many new things were being invented and established such as the automobile, airplanes, radio and the jazz age, and the women’s suffrage and the sexual revolution. The atmosphere during the 1920’s was very chaotic and hectic. The 1920’s was all about going out, drinking, partying, etc. Since the development of the new technologies women and men would get done with their goals faster and had more leisure time. The ambiance was mainly caused by the political and social gatherings, speakeasies, the prohibition, and the slang words that were used in the 1920’s. The Political and social gatherings in the 1920’s were becoming unique. Jazz was a newly introduced genre of music and became very popular at local clubs and speakeasies. Jazz became very popular in famous/well-known parties. More of the popular parties with well-known people had a sort of an exception to alcohol. Most of these gatherings were held in speakeasies. The prohibition law began active on January 16th, 1919. The Prohibition was mainly established because of the medical, economical, social, and political problem. People starting realizing that the alcohol was damaging peoples lives and health. Many men started suffering from sclerosis; which is a hardening of tissue and many other anatomical features. Many workers would get drunk and couldn't perform the task that was at hand so the companies could not afford to produce products because of the absence of their workers. Even though the sale of alcohol was illegal, alcoholic drinks were still widely available at “Speakeasies” and other underground drinking
