"The likings and disliking's of society, or of some powerful portion of it, are thus the main thing which has practically determined the rules laid down for general observance, under the penalties of law or opinion." This quote from mills liberty relates to the topic that I want to address which is the struggle of Liberty. In Claude McKay, "America and W.H Auden, "Refugee Blue" through juxtaposed images you can see both poems have tyrannical struggles addressing Liberty.
Claude McKay, "America" is about how Africans Americans have faced many challenging struggles. But there is a latency for change as the country progresses. As long as black Americans continue to have "strength erect against her hate," a positive change will come. The form …show more content…

This sense of duality within this poem is the purpose behind the prose. This is representative of the duality that many people of color felt during this time period.
W.H Auden's "Refugee Blues" you can tell that the speaker is a husband and the listener is the wife some of the images that are displayed in the poem our church yard and religious imagery feature key words like city country spring moving through space. That gives you a sense of knowledge to know the couples never settle at a stable environment there always on the move. You can also tell that in this poem the couple were rejected from the places they wanted to go in. This poem connected to nature because in the poem this quote "when down the harbor instead of quay saw the fish swimming as if they were free only 10 feet away my dear only 10 feet away walk-through a wood saw the birds in the trees they had no politicians and sing at their ease they weren't the human race my dear they weren't the human race". Describing how they're not excepted but animals are wanted but not them so they're saying basically that the Jewish people are worse than animals
The rhyming scheme in this poem is AAB there is a total of 12 stanzas each having 3 lines in the poem. There is some imagery when the speaker speaks of the yew in the churchyard blossoming in spring each year. There is also a use of Metaphor the thunder
