Amia – *Amia calva (Fig. 13.17) is commonly known as bowfin. *It is a primitive beonging to family Amiidae that survives nearly unchanged from the time of the dinosaurs. *It is distributed in South-eastern Canada and north-eastern U.S.A. *Generally it is found in heavily vegetated, clear water swamps, lakes, rivers and backwaters. It has ability to live poorly oxygenated habitats, including stagnant waters.
