About Chesty Puller’s Life Chesty Puller was one of the best Marines in history because of his will power. He fought hard for our country and while doing this he helped us greatly in many wars. Every time he went out to serve our country he was at a risk of death. He risked his life so our lives could be better. Chesty Puller contributed to history by saving many people when serving our country and ended up as the most decorated Marine in history. Chesty Puller was born June 26, 1898. His father was a grocer who died when Chesty was only ten. He tried to join the Punitive Expedition but his mother stopped him. Chesty then got tired of his school work when he heard about World War I. From there he decided to join the Marines. He then went

From captaining the American Navy’s most prized frigates to being a man every sailor could actively interact with, John Barry established himself to be an exceptional naval leader and hero. He guided his ships and sailors through many successful battles which were key in the establishment of the American Navy. Despite his great influence, Barry never put his personal interests in front of the Navy’s, and his dedication to the service centuries ago created the dominant Navy and Marine Corps team present today. Because he was an expert and popular mariner, a focused individual, and a naval visionary, John Barry was able to earn the title of “Father of the American Navy.”
I admire this person because he was a African-american to get the medal of honor, the highest military award given by the government during his service during WWII. Also he was awarded a Bronze star, 2 Purple hearts, Croce Di Guerra Al valor, combat infantry Badge, and Distinguished Service Badge (which was upgraded to the Medal of Honor) during his service in WWII and Korean war.
He received citations for meritorious service and a promotion to Brevet Major. This stemmed from his sense of duty, willingness to face danger, and by leading from the front.
Breckinridge was a huge contributor in the battles he commanded and was part of. He was part of some of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. The Civil War had the most deaths out of all of the U.S wars. He was a high ranking officer in many battles. He achieved his great rank by political power, too.
In these first years of the marines Lewis was acquired his nick name Chesty because of his perfect body structure. This means he had a iron chest and that he was a extremely strong man. He was assigned some jobs to do in Norfolk, Virginia, at the Marine Barracks and at the Basic school, and the 10th Marine Artillery Regiment in Quantico, Virginia. Then in July of 1926 Chesty, was assigned to the Marine barracks in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Two years later Chesty was assigned to the Marine Barracks in San Diego, California. In that year Puller was assigned to the Nicaraguan National card. This is were he received his first Navy Cross Award, for his actions between February and August of 1930.
Seaman and Hally are both heros. Seaman was there for when things like buffalo bulls and Indians attacked. Hally is a hero because
Jack D. Ripper is important, because he is the person who gives the orders and the soldiers would not know what to do without him. He is instructive, bossy, and he tells Mandrake what to do with very specific instructions. He is the air force commander and he is the go-to guy if no one wants to do the things he does. He gives orders and makes sure men know what they are doing. His leadership makes him a symbol, and he is a metaphor for control because no one else has guts to give instructions like he does.
Although perceived by the author as a terrible thing, the Pacific Campaign showed Eugene Sledge several things a normal man usually wouldn’t notice. Throughout the book marines are seen on litter duty; volunteering to run into the midst battle with a stretcher to carry out dead or wounded Marines. This mindset of never leaving someone behind is still taught today. What it comes down to at its basic level is the love and loyalty that brothers in arms share with one another. Examples of such selflessness can be seen today still, with the
Throughout all the turmoil that Sledge went through during the war, he was able to keep his sanity along with a compassionate optimism for humanity and that to me tells you that he truly was a great Marine.
During that summer he took many different back strengthening exercises, and in September he was accepted by the Navy. In March 1943, as a lieutenant he took command of a PT (torpedo) boat in the Solomon Islands. On the night of August 2, his boat was cruising west of New Georgia it was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer. He rallied the survivors and managed to get them to an island after being thrown across the deck onto his back. He then towed a wounded man three miles through a rough journey through different seas. He was a very brave man, for several days he risked his life repeatedly, swimming into dangerous waters hoping to find a rescue ship. He finally met up with two friendly islanders and sent them for aid with a message that he carved on a coconut. Back home he received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, and the Purple Heart, but his earlier back injury had been aggravated, and unfortunately he contracted malaria. After an operation on his back, he was discharged early in 1945.
He was always trying to better himself and he would always try to do the right thing. He did all his MCI's, went to the gym every day, and was always polite. When it came to doing the right thing, you could always count on him. He would always pick up trash (even if it wasnt his). If he was working and saw something that needed to be done, he would do it. If he saw another Marine slacking off or being a turd, he would correct that Marine. He was the ultimate rolemodle for junior Marines.
This is a great example of initiative, honor, courage, and commitment to the mission. This is a perfect example on how we must be on a day to day basis. Always putting the mission before self-comfort, to never question or object with whatever order or command you are given. Especially with us being in The United Stated Marine Corps, we should abide by these examples, and help others understand the importance of it as well. Everything that Captain Rowan did reflect our duty, our expectations, and our standards. Our duty as Marines to complete whatever mission is given to us, regardless of the objectives we may encounter throughout the way. To exceed the expectations they have for us, and to prove that no mission is impossible. One very important standard is to never strive for the bare minimum, but to always do everything to the best of our ability. We should always adapt and overcome in any given situation, and take initiative with good judgments. We should always work with what we got and do it with no hesitation, but most importantly, to go above and beyond the call of duty. Staying motivated and dedicated and applying Honor, Courage, and Commitment will take
