It’s late at night, Billy Hodgson is standing near the door. Ominous creaking adds to the heightened fear as the door starts to open. Unexpectedly, Billy’s dog transforms into the terrifying creature named The Crooked Man. Fear and panic runs through the young boy’s head, causing him to dash out of the room, finding the safety and comfort of his parents. The Crooked Man chases after the small boy, preying on him as if he is a lion in the wild. Billy manages to make it to his parents, mumbling about The Crooked Man. People deem this scene of the young, terrified Billy as one of the best scenes of The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Case, directed by the new master of horror, James Wan. As a matter of fact, scenes from many films can be blocked in a way to make the audience gravitate towards it, making them feel a part of the scene. Modern directors have no limits with today’s cinema. Not to mention, many 21st century films show the trademarks of their directors, whether it be filming symmetrically, zooming in or out on a shot, tracking a character in a point of view shot, or action shots. Among Hollywood directors who create some of the highest grossing modern films, some of the most recognized include Wes Anderson, James Wan Christopher Nolan.
