To be a hero- Hello this is news 11 and today we have news right here right now. Today right now Odysseus himself has been planning and here he comes right now and he is looking good as always! Hi Odysseus how is you? Oh hello I am rather fine. So how was it in the battle with all those monsters? Well to be honest it was tough and I thought I might not make it be with Athena here to help me it was very swift and I got the job done. Tell us when you were walking off to get on the ship what were your thoughts? Well I was thinking I can do this! So I did and look where I am now. That’s nice. And how did you come up with the brilliant idea to stab the Cyclops? All I did was use what I knew about those darn foul creatures and that was all it …show more content…
Later he went into the house drank the wine and to Circes surprise he didn’t turn into a pig like the rest of then. Since he did not turn into one he ended up with Circe saying ‘oh however shall I help you?’ Odysseus replied well we do need some things to put are ship back together and we can’t do anything unless we have the right materials. So Circe gave him materials and supplies also changing his crew mates back to normal.
Cyclops island- And how did you come up with the brilliant idea to stab the Cyclops? All I did was use what I knew about those darn foul creatures and that was all it took I stabbed it right in the eye! Then we made a run for it hiding under the sheep of the Cyclops. After you got away where did you go? Oh I went to call for Zeus the god and he gave me the bag of winds and I was given west so I could be blown towards Ithaca but sadly a strong wave pushed us off course and demolished some of our ship but then we sailed on.
The isle of the winds- in this part of my journey I successfully was sailing to the island of the winds and then later I ended being blown across the ocean the caves of Scylla and the whirl pool of Charybdis and then we made the daring decision to try to pass by the foul monsters and sadly we lost a few men but we still ended up making it through which I didn’t even think we would succeed in doing even though it was obviously going to be a rough journey and I went back and
One of Odysseus’ other characteristics is his intelligence. When the Cyclops asked Odysseus for his name he decided to give him a fake one, “Cyclops, / you ask me of my honorable name? Remember/ the gift you promised me and I shall tell you. / My name is Nohbdy: mother, father, and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy. 313-316” This quality of his saves his life many times. When Odysseus and his soldiers stab the Cyclops’ eye, he cries out asking help from his fellow Cyclopes, but when he says Odysseus’ fake name to them they walk away saying for the Cyclops to pray to Poseidon. When the Cyclops eye was injured, he went in front of the door so that no one could escape so Odysseus had to devise a plan, “The Cyclops’ rams were handsome, fat, with heavy/ fleeces, a dark violet. / Three abreast/ I tied them silently together, twining/ cords of willow from the ogre’s bed,/ then slung a man under each middle one/ to ride there safely, shielded left and right./ So three sheep could convey each man. I took/ the woolliest ram, the choicest of the flock. / and hung myself under his kinky belly. 376-384” Odysseus had to think of a plan to escape right on the spot, this shows how clever he is. Odysseus has many other traits besides his intelligence which makes him a hero.
Odysseus is a man to be acknowledged as a hero because he wisely resided with Circe, allowing him to learn of the dangers that lay ahead. After Odysseus returns from his visit with the dead prophet Tiresias, Circe informs him he must “Listen with care to this...in your ship’s path are Sirens, crying
Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and the main character in homer’s The Odyssey, was gone for twenty years before finally returning to his family and his homeland. He struggled through many hardships and lost many loyal companions. The King of Ithaca would not have made it home without the assistance of the Greek gods. Despite all of the help and advice that Odysseus receives from the gods, he is a very brave man because his courage and daring in the cave of the Cyclops, his inability to give up and abandon his men on Circe’s island, and his flawless following of the gods instructions are acts of bravery that is uncommon in most men.
Odysseus portrays himself as anything but a hero throughout Homer’s The Odyssey. Odysseus goes through his life believing he is the best. He has no regard for anyone’s feelings but his own, and he believes nothing and no one can harm him, not even the gods. Odysseus feels he is always the leader and no one can tell him otherwise. Odysseus should not be considered a hero because he portrays himself as a selfish man that failed his crew, and is controlled by his hubris.
Odysseus is a hero because he acts courageously while facing the many challenges he encounters. Odysseus’s shows great bravery when he engages in physical challenges. Odysseus daringly fights against the suitors, while significantly outnumbered: “For I must
First, Odysseus is not a hero because he is a foolish leader who makes many mistakes on his journey back home to Ithaka. His first mistake is his decision to let his men raid and
He didn’t abandon us when he knew danger was near. At the Island of Circe, half of us turned to pigs. Once Eurylochus left to find help, Odysseus came to save us. He came alone, knowing the dangers coming ahead. Astonishingly he was able to salvage and rescue us from becoming pigs for eternity.
In the Greek literature of mythology, we have examined Odysseus. Students and scholars alike debate whether Odysseus was a true hero, as read in The Odyssey. There is much supporting evidence to prove all sides of the debate and opinions held of Odysseus. It is of my opinion that Odysseus is a hero in his homeland, his family, the Greek people, and for us to learn from to this day. Odysseus had encompassed three many qualities that I believe made him a hero. He embodied, mental strength, physical strength, and spiritual strength. I would like to advocate for why Odysseus was a hero.
In the Odyssey, Odysseus is quite the legend known to people, whether you are high up in the sky with Zeus, or deep in the ocean with Poseidon, everyone knows Odysseus. In the epic poem, the Odyssey told by the one and only Homer, the brave, the godlike human, Odysseus is finding his way home after the big battle victory against the Trojans. This story is about his travels home and how he got caught up in other business. Let’s just say he stabbed Poseidon’s son, had his crew turned into pigs, faced a six-headed monster and whirlpool, and that is to say the least. He may as well be on America’s most wanted list with all the trouble he was causing. Even though Odysseus is a troublemaker, he has multiple great characteristics of a leader. Odysseus, when it comes to his crew and family, is confident, compassionate, wise, and always knows a way to get out of any problem.
In The Odyssey Odysseus stands up for his men who are traveling to war with him when Athena accuses them of not displaying much talent. It would be difficult for Odysseus to stand up for his men while talking to a goddess. However, he handles himself very wisely explaining to Athena the positive qualities in each of his men. In The Odyssey after Poseidon grows angry with Odysseus telling him he will suffer, it only makes Odysseus determination in himself increase. A hero is one who never gives up, so one major character traits they should obtain is determination Although Odysseus is beaten down by the god of the sea it does not decrease his determination. During the journey back from the war in The Odyssey after Poseidon has warned Odysseus that he will not make it home Odysseus not only works well with his men, but also is very self reliant. Self reliance is a huge part of becoming a hero because you have to be prepared at all times if something was to happen to your acquaintances, you need to have the confidence to fulfil your goal.

Odysseus tends to use strategy over strength to be a hero when it comes to challenges. Instead of beginning with fighting the Cyclops, he takes his time and sets up a plan. Everytime he enters a new island, he does not start telling everyone that he is Odysseus, king of Ithaca. Instead, he charms the people he meets and uses his wise words that cause them to help and pity him. Odysseus represents what being a hero is actually all about. Throughout the novel The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus continuously shows his personality of being an admirable hero to everyone by using strategy instead of strength.
Early one morning I was very hungry waterso, I went looking for food. When suddenly I saw something strange above the Waters point so I jumped right into the action and said you go up to the top of the water when it started attacking me with spears and oars obviously I attacked back I mean I was scared and that's when two of the boats sank and most of the humans drowned. But, one of them escaped so i just let
Odysseus is telling Circe that he is worried about his men and he can’t eat because of that but if she lets them free then he will eat. This shows that Odysseus is getting rid of his selfishness and starting to think about others. Although curious, Odysseus still obeys Circes wishes while they sail past the Sirens’ island.
Another way Odysseus is also a hero is he always finds a way to survive whether he is in conflict or out on the sea. One of the many situations Odysseus survives is his encounter with Skylla. Six of his crew members do perish but through his hard work and dedication he survives. He makes another smart decision in choosing to go through Skylla instead of Kharybdis because only six of his crew members die instead of the whole crew. Another decision Odysseus makes to survive is not eating the cattle of Helios while on Thrinikia, his crew members choice in eating the hallowed cows results in their death, but Odysseus knew the consequences and did not touch a cow. Another way Odysseus' quick-decision skills helps him is when he chooses to leave the island of the Lotous-eaters, because he realized his whole crew would have fell under the curse if he had stayed there. Odysseus is also a master tactician whose complex plans save his crew and help him regain his crown. One of these plans was his ingenious idea to trick Polyphemos, which shows he is a hero by saving countless lives. Another plan he implemented was to kill the suitors which is also a success because Odysseus and Telemakos themselves kill over a hundred men without an injury to themselves .Odysseus is a quick-thinker whose resourceful ideas save many lives.
