This soliloquy clearly portrays Iago’s manipulative character when he perceives Cassio’s gentlemanlike gestures to Desdemona as a way to ruin their relationship between Othello and Desdemona. The passage occurs right after their ship reaches their destination. Iago start off by stating “He’s taking her [Desdemona] hand. Ay, well said, whisper” (2.1.163-164). Iago is talking to himself and is joyfully watching Cassio flirtatiously converse Desdemona. He is speaking in a tone, similar to the ones people use when they watch their favorite sports team win a match or score a goal.
