By exploring Iranian womanhood, Neshat is simultaneously exploring political and ideological structures that are unbeknownst to her after she went into exile during the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Due to her observations, Iranian women are characteristic to be the embodiment of Iran’s political transformation” and therefore also explores her personal identity (Neshat, “Art in Exile”).
