“A story always sounds clear enough at a distance, but the nearer you get to the scene of events the vaguer it becomes,” Orwell says this in his essay “Shooting an Elephant” that is in The Norton Mix textbook (273-74). Essays are hard, especially when you are assigned to work with people you believe may have not have anything in common with you. Many people find it difficult to write about themselves, which makes this assignment even more grueling. Four people, talking and writing, depending on each other for a grade, of course it will be grueling. She is also an only child. She decided to move up to Arkansas because there was a children’s ministry here that she really liked. Her parents are super proud of her for being independent and living on her own. Some of her goals for living here and going to National Park College is to get her degree in elementary education. After she does this, her next goal will bet to start making a difference in young people’s lives and become a teacher. She knows that this is just the beginning, but she is excited of what the future holds.

Any first day of class feels like a scripted ritual where the spotlight creeps through the room and you’re waiting for your turn to stand up and tell your name, hobbies, something about your family, and your goals.
