The film, Singing In The Rain, directed by Stanely Donen and Gene Kelly, uses many themes, camera angles, and overall simple techniques to engage its audience within the movie and yet still manage to symbolize plentiful acts. The movie mainly focuses on the new era of ‘talking pictures’ and how it affected Cosmo’s career and film, The Dueling Cavalier. Within the many scenes, I chose to focus upon the famous, “ Good Morning,” scene/melody.
Throughout the scene, I noticed two recurring themes; first being the idea of a new day means a fresh start or a chance to reset. Within the first 10 seconds of the film, Cosmo states, “Today s my Lucky day!,”; soon after Cosmo chimes in stating March 24th is actually his lucky day for its past midnight, the new day. Moreover, I believe the sense of daylight symbolizes the struck of joy each character has because of a new chance in fixing the mess of the film he performed with Lina Lamont. The scene also plays along with this idea by implementing different greeting of ‘good morning’ such as Bonjour, Buenos Dias, Muchas Frías
Bongiorno, Montichorno, Guten Morgen, Blakich Morgen, and etc; rather than meaning good morning, it’s a metaphor of joy being expressed in various languages.
The second theme signifies the importance of hope; the idea of how a negative event can become positive if one manages to maneuver around it. For example, I noticed the rainstorm playing as background sound among the scene. At a certain point Debbie exclaims, “.. And what a lovely day!” which lead me to interpret a signified an ironic moment. Even though it was raining, Debbie still smiled while stating it was a beautiful day. In another instance, Cosmo states he will turn dramatic, failed, silent film of the Dueling Cavalier into a musical; from his mishap of a terrible film which would have ended his career, he gave it hope. Hope is key to resolve all conflicts.
Within the excerpt, the directors began with a medium shot. I understood the importance of making the viewer feel a part of the trio, therefore the condensed shot caused this; also, it allowed the musical announcement to have a greater emphasis on joy by beginning at a medium shot then zooming outwards as the characters spread apart. Once
All three of these themes really helps you go in depth into the story. You realize how many times each of these pop up, which events they popped up in, and how important those events even were. We see you never know the worth of water until the well is dry with Sal as well as Phoebe, maybe even Mrs.Cadaver. When Sal’s mom leaves because she feels rotten in comparison to Sal’s father, we find this is a major event because we now have an insight as to why she left, she didn’t feel perfect, even though she was only human. Sal accepting her mother death was a terrible thing in her life, yet she had to and was also a key event in the story. These themes can all easily be integrated into our modern day society. Such as when you lose a relative, you have to accept their death even if you desperately don’t want to or when said family member dies you don’t realize how much they mean to you. Or with all the stereotypes and expectations we sometimes forget that we’re all only human. Tell people close to you you love them, you’ll never know when you’ll lose them. Make sure they know you appreciate them, but most of all, always know that nobody’s
A theme is the prime element of literature, which contains the central idea of the story. It helps reflect on the characteristics that a story might have and reflects on observations interpreted from our view of the author. The theme, a main idea or underlying meaning of literary work may be stated directly or indirectly, but it is ultimately our job to figure it out. Throughout any story, short story or poem you can see the constant change of imagery that will play a big part in the development of the characters ability’s to demonstrate the theme. In “The Storm” by Kate Chopin, the theme illustrates many sexual desires, adultery, and happiness as well as shows a theme of conflict. Chopin uses a storm to represent sexual passionate tension that builds throughout the story between the two main characters Alcee and Calixta.
1. One theme presented in Copper Sun is hope. This is a very important theme because it’s really the main theme, many times throughout the story you hear characters talk about hope, whether they have all the hope in the world or lost all hope, it is a very present theme in the story. For Besa, Amari’s old lover, any shred of hope is lost. After Besa tried to escape from other plantations, the beatings he has endured, and the punishment for the failed escapes, Besa had lost all hope for freedom and just wanted to die. Even though he had encountered his lover Amari again, whom was in the process of escaping to freedom at Fort Mose, he had no desire to try to escape again. He had already lost all hope of escaping and didn’t believe that chance at freedom was worth what he might endure if he’s caught. His loss of hope has caused him to want to die. Another example of how hope is a theme is shown through Amari, and how hope allowed her to never give up and persevere against all odds. Amari argues with Polly about whether they were going to
Singing in the Rain is everything that a Classical Hollywood film is supposed to be from the mise-en-scene, narrative and editing in the film. Throughout the film unobtrusive editing is used for easy viewing for the audience. When Don Lockwood is singing “Singin’ in the Rain” while he is dancing in the rain is a perfect example of mise-en-scene. This specific scene captures all the talent and visualization that went into
People read countless stories that have a variety of themes in them. When people read “Angela's Ashes” by Frank McCourt, and “The Street” by Ann Petry, they can probably sense that there is something similar among the two stories', and that's because they share a common theme. The theme is how people can persevere through problems that they encounter. The reader will discover this similar theme of persevering through problems with the way the authors utilize the character of characters feelings and personality, the way setting creates a backdrop that establishes the tone of the story, and events that cause conflict to the character.
At the beginning of the book, there is a part that starts the story and how it affects them later in their lives. When Raina races against her friends to go home, she trips and knocks out her two front teeth. This shows me the theme of how all things, and even things that are meant to be fun or enjoyable may have some weird/terrible consequences. It also shows us how the relationship between her and her friends in another scene in the beginning of the story is that I saw for the theme friendship was when Raina came back to school the day after her teeth were knocked out and people were wondering how was her and if she was okay. Then more people come over and then they ask her if she saw the blood and how much blood there was and if Raina cried. This shows that her friends do not care for her as much and would rather hear Raina’s story from a different side than her own. A theme that seems great for the both scenes that work together is most people
Over time in the book Mattie is very strong if I was her I wouldn't know what to do. One time in the book Mattie gets diagnosed with fever and she survives! She was so close to death. "Oh, my, now that's looking better isn't it? You've beat the Grin Reaper, you have, lassie" Mrs flag says to Mattie when she wakes up from the fever. She was so close to death but she kept fighting. But she isn't done yet. Another time in the story where Mattie showed us the theme was when Mattie was all alone but she went out and tried to find someone to help her. This relates to the theme because Mattie could of just stayed at the coffeehouse but instead she knew she could find someone who would help. The last example I have is when Mattie has to decide what to do with the coffeehouse. She could decide to keep it or she could sell it. Everybody was telling her to sell it but she kept it. She could of said I don't want to decide and Eliza would've sold it but she decide to kept and to have Eliza as a partner. All these examples are explain how the theme is true. But these were three examples were three of many.
The first theme, “war cannot change who a person really is at their core,” recurs during several incidences which reinstates the significance. For example, Ben tries to make Ringer smile despite being in the midst of the end of the world. When Cassie and Sammy reunite, he goes back to his five-year-old self despite his being in boot camp for months prior, and lastly, Cassie and Evan flirt
The theme no matter the situation, there is a reason so make the most of it.T represents my life, and others on many levels. Most students dislike waking up for school, and are forced to go. I dislike going to school, but everyday I have to tell myself to work hard and make school better. The other theme I chose from The Maze Runner is extremely similar to the other theme, accept instead of making the most of a bad situation, this theme tells me to make the most of the opportunity’s in the bad situation. This applies to my life, because I'm in school which is not necessarily a bad situation but still take advantage of the opportunity to learn. Both of the themes can be applied to everyday life, and they can help as motivation to move forward.
A theme is the meaning behind a story, occasionally defined as the moral of the story. Themes can differ from one end of the world to the other, as it does in many books. The Droughtlanders by Carrie Mac is a futuristic version of the world which has been divided into two parts. The rich and the poor, the healthy and the sick, otherwise known as Keyland and Droughtland. Keyland is where all the rich people with extravagant lands and lives live. Droughtland is a disease-ridden land where all poor people are being forced to live. Society treats Droughtland poorly and they decide to take action. Thus starting the revolution. Carrie Mac portrays many themes in different ways throughout the book. However the major theme the book revolves around is that; No matter how rich or poor a person is, or what gender, race, or sexuality they are, in the end, they are all the same and deserve to be treated equally. In addition, the book shows that when everyone is treated equally there is so much more that everyone can accomplish. The theme is being portrayed through the narrative point of view, setting and atmosphere, and character development.
When writing about the theme, the writer should keep in mind that he/she will write an analysis of a theme that appears in either a text or movie that argues a specific point. The writer's aim in this type of essay is to pick a theme from a text or movie and write about what that theme does for the story or what that theme makes the reader realize about that story and/or life itself. The best way to come up with such an
The second theme is: there is always Hope. In spite of all the terrible events in Ishmael’s life, he finds a way to overcome everything and find love again and meaning to his existence again.
The theme is how when you have a tough, important moment in life, you have to make the best of it and move along. An image for these lyrics will help you connect to the theme because you can see what is going on and a picture will help you understand something more. In my next paragraph, I will be talking about how the singers used repetition to emphasize certain points.
Opening scene starts with medium close up of Mrs. Travers. and as long as other participants start singing it changes to extreme close up to highlight her eyes to give that sense of thoughtfulness. What I especially love about this movie that they did not use any dolly in or out or extreme zoom to go back and forward in the timeline but instead they used cut shots and for giving natural dramatic effect they played in the volumes of the sounds. After
To begin with, we should address the title of the film. The title Sunshine, creates an illusion of something warm, happy, and necessary. It helps
