We’re all only human is major theme in Walk Two Moons that can easily be relatable within modern day society. We mainly see this theme in our main characters mothers, with both of them feeling the need to be perfect, even though that’s impossible. When Mrs.Winterbottom finally comes home, along with her son, Mike, she then proceeds to ramble saying she’s sorry she’s not perfect. I think this shows that Mrs.Winterbottom felt the pressure to be perfect, because that’s what their family’s “reputation” was, perfect. Sal’s mom also felt this pressure, with Sal’s dad being “perfect” in her opinion, she felt as though she needed to live up to his standards though she just couldn’t.Mrs.Winterbottom says, “Mrs.Winterbottom sat down on the sofa and began to cry. It was a terrible, terrible moment. It was hard to make any sense out of what she said at first. She was talking about being respectable and how Mr.Winterbottom would never forgive her, but she was tired of being so respectable. She had tried very, very hard all these years to be perfect, but she had to admit she was very unperfect. She said there was something she had never told her husband, and she feared he would not forgive her for it,” (page 234).Telling her family she wasn’t perfect and she was sorry for that, had actually made Mrs.Winterbottom cry. This quote shows that for years Mrs.Winterbottom had tried to be …show more content…
All three of these themes really helps you go in depth into the story. You realize how many times each of these pop up, which events they popped up in, and how important those events even were. We see you never know the worth of water until the well is dry with Sal as well as Phoebe, maybe even Mrs.Cadaver. When Sal’s mom leaves because she feels rotten in comparison to Sal’s father, we find this is a major event because we now have an insight as to why she left, she didn’t feel perfect, even though she was only human. Sal accepting her mother death was a terrible thing in her life, yet she had to and was also a key event in the story. These themes can all easily be integrated into our modern day society. Such as when you lose a relative, you have to accept their death even if you desperately don’t want to or when said family member dies you don’t realize how much they mean to you. Or with all the stereotypes and expectations we sometimes forget that we’re all only human. Tell people close to you you love them, you’ll never know when you’ll lose them. Make sure they know you appreciate them, but most of all, always know that nobody’s
A theme is the author’s underlying message that is expressed in more one word. Some themes can be very similar to each other, an example of this is the two documents I will comparing in this analysis essay; The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and On the sidewalk Bleeding by Evan Hunter. These two stories share similar themes, Don’t judge someone by what they look like, get to know them before you determine their fate. However the authors portray this theme in a different way. One story depicts a young boy who goes through troublesome events in his life before he realizes the moral of his life.
At the beginning of the book, there is a part that starts the story and how it affects them later in their lives. When Raina races against her friends to go home, she trips and knocks out her two front teeth. This shows me the theme of how all things, and even things that are meant to be fun or enjoyable may have some weird/terrible consequences. It also shows us how the relationship between her and her friends in another scene in the beginning of the story is that I saw for the theme friendship was when Raina came back to school the day after her teeth were knocked out and people were wondering how was her and if she was okay. Then more people come over and then they ask her if she saw the blood and how much blood there was and if Raina cried. This shows that her friends do not care for her as much and would rather hear Raina’s story from a different side than her own. A theme that seems great for the both scenes that work together is most people
The theme of this book is to be strong through the toughest times. This theme is shown throughout the book when Kira is the only one alive in her family, Anabella passes away, and even when Matt was lost. Another theme could be trust your instincts. Kira has all these thoughts about the council, Annabella, beasts and many more but she keeps them to herself. Day after day more thoughts pile up. If Kira were to trust herself, her life would have a greater quality. As you read more of the story the theme becomes a larger part of
The novel Walk Two Moons shows many subplots and stories, however one is focused on much more than any of the others. This subplot shows Sal's story in Ohio, about her friends, about a woman with wild red hair, and about a lunatic.
Kobe Bryant once said, “Everything negative - pressure, challenges - is all an opportunity for me to rise”. This quote is demonstrated in both A Night Divided and A Long Walk to Water as in both books the characters face great challenges that allow them to rise above others. In A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen Gerta and her family are divided by the Berlin Wall. Gerta’s oldest brother, Dominique, and father are in the west and Gerta her other brother, Fritz, and their mother are in the east. They decide to tunnel under the wall to get to the west for a better life and to get back to their family. This is their escape story. In the story, A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. Salva is in Sudan and his village is under attack by the rebels. He is separated from his family and must learn to survive the harsh conditions of Sudan to get to peace. The Salva’s family gets divided as and he is by himself. This is his account of his escape to the refugee camps. In both books, A Night divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen, and, A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park the authors use plot sequence to develop the theme, times of hardships and danger develop perseverance.
Society often fail to understand and see the mental pain that individuals carry throughout their lives. Some people bear its burden, while others suffer greatly because of it, to the point of choosing self-destruction. The narrators from “The Gargoyle” (Davidson) and “Walk to Morning” (Boyden) both experience this pain that ultimately sets them on a course to a deep pit. They survive their near-deaths and later encounter unique life-changing people. As a result, they become better individuals.
To begin, the theme one's own selfishness can end up pushing away and hurting those close to them is shown through
The first theme I noticed from the books is the value of friendship. In Staying Fat For Sarah Byrnes, if Sarah Byrnes didn’t have Eric Calhoune as a friend, she would have never told anyone the true story about the burns on her face. Having a friend to tell her story to, saved Sarah from her father. If Eric Calhoune didn’t have Sarah Byrnes as a friend, he would not have stood up for himself when he was getting picked on. He was able to do so because he had learned how to be tough from his friend Sarah Byrnes. In the book Hope Was Here, if GT Stoop didn’t have Hope and Braverman as friends, he wouldn’t have received half of his votes in his campaign for mayor. GT received more votes because his friends spent a lot of time campaigning for him. If Hope didn’t have GT as a friend, she would not have had the experience of having a father.
Survival is a good theme in the book “A Long Walk To Water” because Salva (the male character) has to go through a lot of discomfort, and needs to survive without his family. The first upcoming example of survival is when Salva gets left behind from the group of rebels in the barn, this happened because war came to Salva’s town and killed about everyone, while this was happening Salva was in school and needed to run into the brush where he found the rebels. When Salva gets left behind he doesn’t know what he’s going to do, but when he goes outside he finds a woman sitting on a bench, Salva didn’t know if this woman is Nuer or Dinka for Salva to know this he has to see the scar mark on the woman’s face. The woman
Theme is a debatable topic among stories, some will agree and most have their own take. Two great novels that debate themes constantly are The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald written about a young man who becomes super wealthy and Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorn a story of a young women who does not fit into society. The novels The Great Gatsby and Scarlet Letter disagree on the theme that people look to self-improvement to help get what they want, evidenced by plot, tone, and, character.
“Don’t judge a man until you’ve walked two moons in his moccasins,” -Sharon Creech. Sals development through her life was mainly because of the points in her life where she accepted a challenge instead of denying it. In Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, the author develops the theme of acceptance through Sals characterization, internal and external conflict, and the plot of the story. During the story, Sals characterization contributes to the author’s theme of acceptance. The author uses Sal’s characterization to express her feelings when she says, “I did not think we would ever leave, and yet I did not want to leave.
To begin with, one major theme that continuously played a part throughout the entire book is desire. To many of the characters, it was the one urge that they could never overcome. One
These theme for my book are very good themes about the book. The themes help the reader know what the book is about. The characters in the book are important to the book because with out the characters the book would make no sense. Every book must have characters and themes to the book because without those two things there is no book. The three theme from the book talk very good about the book. They describe what Brian has to go through in order to survive the cold winter in the canadian wilderness. One theme tells us how lonely it is in the wilderness and how lonely Brian is and how he has no one to talk to but a skunk. So those are some of my theme and characters of my story brian’s winter.
I found a theme that carried throughout the whole book, Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. This is the story about Katniss Everdeen and how she got drafted to fight twenty-three others in an arena. She must go through many struggles to end up winning, along with her new lover, Peeta. One simple theme, perseverance, runs throughout the whole book. The complex lesson the story suggests is that perseverance, emotional or physical, not only helps one, but helps others and causes them to persevere as well.
The theme of The Guest and Walk to Moons is never judge a person by their appearance and there looks. These two stories illustrates same theme that you should never judge a person by their appearance. This lesson show how in the two stories they judged both of the people by their appearance. But Author Uma Krishnaswami that wrote the Guest and Author Sharon Creech are both trying to tell you to never judge people by their appearance and there looks.
