Likewise it creates momentum and interest in the text. Moreover, when style is analyzed The Handmaid's Tale written by Margaret Atwood is profound, and effectively demonstrates how style can dramatically impact a text. Atwood and her style incorporate a unique use of diction. Atwood uses words that are sensible, sympathetic and emotion evoking. Her choice of words portrays an exceptional style. This is validated in cases such as, when narrator speaks about the future “we yearned for the future. How did we learn it, that talent for insatiability? It was in the air; and it was still in the air, an afterthought, as we tried to sleep, in the army cots that had been set up in rows, with spaces between so we could not talk” (page 19). Using a possessive voice she makes a strong impact on reader and makes they fell confronted with the situation. Accordingly this helps them understand and relate to the text in a practical way. She evokes emotionally sparks in the mindset of readers. Likewise when the narrator expresses, “The Angels stood outside it with their backs to us. They were objects of fear to us, but of something else as well. If only they would look [...] something could be exchanged, we thought, some deal made, some trade-off, we still had our bodies. That was our fantasy” (page20). Consequently this displays Atwood’s style and her sophisticated use of diction.
