The National Assessment Program- Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is designed to test the knowledge and abilities of students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It is undertaken nationwide, every year, in the second full week in May, by over 1 million students (ACARA, n.d.). Also, NAPLAN comprises of four domains, including; reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy (NAP, 2016a). The NAPLAN numeracy assessment evaluates students’ mathematical knowledge, skills and understanding. It also assesses the students proficiency, understanding, fluency, problem-solving and reasoning across the three content strands of mathematics: number and algebra; measurement and geometry; and statistics and probability (NAP, 2016b).
Through encouraging learners or athletes to act out a strategic activity or skill, the learner learns the drill in an informal manner. This also helps aid memory retention and muscle memory retention, especially for improving motor skills or conditioned behaviour.
When addressing the reliability of the NAPLAN it is important to consider the restricted number of test items included, and how this minimises the test scope and impacts on very high and very low achievers (Howes, 2013). While the move to an online format will help address some of these, there remains a belief that the test goes against what is recognised as effective assessment practise due to an inconsistency with what is being measured and what is being taught within school curriculum (Facchinetti, 2013). Taking the Louisiana Literacy Test was frustrating to say the least. With only ten minutes to get through thirty questions, I felt rushed, uncomfortable and full of self doubt. I can’t believe you had to get every single one of them right to be able to vote. Did people they wanted to vote receive an answer key in the mail to prepare, or did the people who graded the test overlook some wrong answers for those they desired to vote? I thought I did well. Common Core is built as an infective for education to all schools, but what it is, is a policy that all students learn the same. Common Core has been adopted in forty-three states around the nation. Common Core is designed to get students ready for college and career ready from grades Kindergarten through twelfth grade. “The basic definition of what Common Core is, a set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy.” (Board)“The college- and career-readiness standards were developed first and then incoporated into the K-12 standards in the final cersion of the Common Core we have today.” (Practices) The construction of Common Core was by seeing which state standards were already the best, using experienced teachers, leading-thinkers, content experts, and also public feedback about their child’s education. Common Core is currently being endorsed by the White House. “Common Core is currently costing the United States eighty billion dollars.” (Board) Common Core was created by state educational chiefs and governors from forty-eight states. Common Core states that it will get students ready for their futures, but has only hurt them by not truly completing the goals set. Common Core is developmentally inappropriate for students because the cost of Common Core, it is pushed by the government for competition between states, and the strong implantation of standardized testing.

For this assignment, I completed a survey to assess my school’s literacy program by using a survey that was adapted from by Patty, Maschoff, & Ransom (1996) to analyze the instructional program and the school’s infrastructure.
