Imagine that someone you knew was about to make a dangerous decision that could end his or her life or the lives of others. Would you tell someone? Would you make the effort to save someone’s life? It is only when a life-threatening situation occurs we realize how important it is to tell someone before it is too late. Although some teenagers from the article “To Tell or Not to Tell?” by Mary Kate Frank believe that you should not tell so that you aren’t labeled a snitch, closer examination shows that by telling during an emergency, you can save someone’s life. For example, when Matthew Garrett found out there was going to be a school shooting, he was able to realize the importance of telling before it was too late. That experience
Throughout "Our Secret" Griffin explores the different characters' fears and secrets and she gives specific insights into these "secrets". Through examining others Griffin comes to terms with her own feelings, secrets, and fears. She relates to Himmler, Leo, Helene, and everyone else even though she is different than all of them. One fact that can be made about all of these characters is that they all represent humans and human emotion
The events recounted in Anne Frank’s Diary took place during World War 11. By 1933, the strongest party in Germany had gained ultimate power with Hitler under their command. Hitler was Germany’s dictator who spread his gospel of racial hatred through politics. While poverty and unemployment were at an all time high he launched a campaign of anti-Semitism. Hitler’s main target was the Jews, claiming that they were “racially inferior.” He developed an idea of a Master Aryan Race, the need to rid Germany of “inferior people”, such as Jews and Gypsies, and the need to expand Germany’s borders. In doing this, he caused many Jews to abandoned their homes and go into total isolation. The Frank family
One reason the stories of others help one make moral decisions is because it develops one's sense of empathy. First, empathy helps one understand why people do or not do certain actions. In Elie Wiesel's Night, before dying, Eliezer's father begs him to stay by his side. He does not because he was, "afraid of the blows," and that is why he, "remained deaf to his cries." When one reads Eliezer's thoughts on the matter, they can understand
For example, John smith made maps. Making maps helped him when it came to knowing his way around the new world. This helped John Smith’s exploring skills get better over time. In addition, John Smith escaped from Powhatan and the Turks. He was great at problem solving in dire situations. John smith was once in a situation that was so life threatening for him that he used his guide as a human shield. Furthermore, He also organized and lead a settlement. When it came to leading a settlement he didn’t just know where he was going he literally wrote the map. This made him the best person to go to if you wanted to start a settlement in the new world. John Smith was a good explorer that knew how to get out of some sticky situations; although, he puts his life above all others during times of
In the story “The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle with connections” the main idea of this story so far that I read is that they are going on a boat ride with a family.Mr.Grummage was a y’all man who wore a black frock coat with a stove pipe hat that added to his considerable height. The person that is telling the story asked a lot of questions and obviously had a relationship with Mr.Grummage and they were some what family or real close friends. We can infer that she is a child because in the first chapter she stated that she wanted to say goodbye to her chaperone and she kept saying she had to say good. Some strange man was listening to their conversation and heard that the captain name was Jaggery. The man was scared of the captain because

In the novel A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines there are many themes and motifs to be taught. A reader could acquire so much knowledge from reading this book but if anything they will learn the most important lesson to learn before dying. The most important lesson to learn before dying is that everybody can make a difference in life. Three characters that learned this lesson includes Vivian, when she helped Grant when he was having hard times, Grant Wiggins, when he knew that he accomplished his goal which was helping Jefferson regain his humanity and Jefferson, when he realizes himself that he has much more potential than a hog.
In different circumstances, people have to risk other people's lives to save their
There were thirty-eight witnesses in all, watching from their windows as a woman was stabbed and snuffed.” (96) If at least one person would have taken initiative to call for help when they would hear the cries, when this horrendous crime was taking place the
The Holocaust was a time of war where many families were separated from one another and many had died from this tragic event. Although, from the book “Diary of Anne Frank” a Jewish girl named Anne that had been affected by the Holocaust had said, “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” Even though Anne and her family faced many hardships during the Holocaust Anne still saw the good in it all, and after reading the book I have to agree with Anne’s quote. One of the main reasons of why I am siding with Anne is because of Peter’s actions throughout the book and how his actions rapidly changed once Anne showed kindness to him. However, I can see how some people may disagree with Anne’s quote throughout Mr. Van Daan’s horrible actions throughout the book.
Tragic experiences don’t always have a tragic effect. They can improve someone’s personality and character, and they can change someone for the better. In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, Marguerite Johnson is raped, but that helps her discover the art of poetry and confide in it, while in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless’ whole childhood is considered a tragic experience, but that helps him leave everything behind and find real happiness.
For instance Rob notices when he was on the ride to Rutland that it was time to keep his mouth shut. Rob doesn’t think before he speaks sometimes. Papa had told Rob, “Never miss a chance to keep one’s mouth shut.” Rob had done this because he needed to own up to silence” (91). This shows that Rob needs to own up to silence because, he is about to say something rude to Mr. Tanner. Teenagers can learn from this because most of the time one will say something without thinking and may hurt someone or have a negative consequence. In Rob’s case he had to own up to silence. Clearly never miss a chance to keep one’s mouth shut demonstrates another example of a lesson all teenagers can learn from this novel; however, there remains a third lesson, to be neighborly.
It is my fear that through the evolution of mankind that history has continued to repeat itself. As Anne frank believed that the good in people could still live on, even through the great suffrage many have faced in the conflicts of war. I would like to think this is true, however times are progressing and one may only assume we are nearing our next repetition before it will be our moral responsibility to stop such dismay. Anne Frank believed that her only purpose was to stick to her ideals, no matter how inconceivable they may be. However, I cannot fathom people descending to such a low level as the Nazi's and their actions to diminish an entire race. As Ann Frank believed there will still be good in people no matter the state of all society.
Over the years, many people have believed that the issue of sexual harassment should not be discussed in public. Sexual harassment was to be discussed behind closed doors. In spite of this, the social and political systems have changed instantaneously. This social problem has affected men and women throughout time; however, it seems that the women of our society more closely look at this issue. This social topic has encouraged women to establish organizations in order to help them discuss the issues more openly and to demand equality including fairness and justice throughout the workplace and in their social lives as well. In recent years, sexual harassment has been one of the most serious and widespread problems
So you might be wondering, if this all important, ground breaking concept is not learned by everyone concept isn’t learned by everyone, then how did I learn it? Well I learned it the same way anyone else would have, through failure, repeated, numerous, never-ending failure. But how is that possible, you have good grades, and seem to be fine. Well you are right, I haven’t gone through a serious world ending failure, well not exactly, but that is not what this essay is about though. I grew to be resilient from a much smaller, less stressful endeavor, a video game.
