Many people have a drive. What is your “why”? The song that you are about to see get analyzed is by a musical group called Survivor. The song was originally made for Rocky (the movie) but the song made its way known all over. This song is called “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. This piece categorizes as a rock (genre) song. Survivor uses Hyperbole, Alliteration, and Idiom to convey a message that helps persuade people to never give up. “If you dream it you can achieve it.” This song uses the literary element, hyperbole, to prove that you can overcome any set of challenges with the right attitude. The hyperbole proves that the author's purpose, by riling up the audience with a high pitch voice, is to motivate them for overcoming challenges. …show more content…
The use of alliteration goes into much depth of how arduous and strenuous life can be. You just need to pick yourself up and give it all you got. This alliteration element educates us that we need to face our fears in order for us to achieve victory. The words Guts, Got, and Glory provides an audacity feeling that almost engulfs your state of being. “Had the guts, got the glory” is stated in line 24. This line means that you will need guts to face your goal. Those goals will encounter challenges. Conversely, once you meet that goal, you will experience a slight “hour of glory.” It takes a great deal of self-motivation to face your fears. Moreover achieving your goals and conquering your fears can satisfy, even to the end. Looking in the eye of your fear can be challenging yet nonetheless possible. You are either the person looking through the eye of the tiger or you are the tiger, figuratively. This situation describes the predator and prey relationship. The author uses the idiom to inform us on deciding who we are. Are we looking in the eye of fear or are we looking fear in the eye? This example gives us confidence that the fight isn’t over until you say it is. “And he’s watching us all with the eye of the tiger” stated in line 14. This lyric is explaining that the fight is our goal and the fears that we face. We are either the predator of the goal or either the prey of our
As the time comes to induct new songs in the American Music Hall of Fame, I submit my three choices for admittance, and believe they reflect American culture and have artistic value.
This is what they call imagery. The singer is saying be yourself do not follow others, be yourself and don’t let your perse stop you. Later on in the song it say,”The ice we skate is getting pretty thin/ The water’s getting warm so you might as well swim/ My worlds on fire. How about yours/ That’s the way I like it and i’ll never get bored.” (Smash Mouth) This entire line of the song describes stress and it will try to stop you from being you, but when he rose up and he made a difference and forgot all about the stress he once had. The first part of the lyric is a simile. The final lyric in the song that is important is,” Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas/ I need to get myself away from this place/ I said yep, what a concept/I could use a little fuel myself/ And we could all use a little change.”( Smash Mouth) What he means by this is people ask him what he did to become this famous and he said,”you have to follow your dreams.” This is an example of a
Furthermore, the use of hyperbole and metaphors are effective in this commencement speech. Ellen uses a hyperbole when she rationalizes her anxiety about the success of her sitcom after the public realize that she is gay. Ellen worried about this because in recent times, the
High school is a big time for change in a teenagers life. They go through problems with friends, family, grades, and sports. For Andy Jackson, a 17 year old student at Hazelwood High School, he went through all of those troubles. He plays for the basketball team with his friends Rob Washington, Tyrone Mills, and B.J. Carson. One night after basketball practice, Andy was drinking alcohol and driving which led them to get in a car crash. Andy, Tyrone, and B.J. escaped the car with a few cuts and bruises, but Rob got stuck and burned to death. Rob’s death brought Andy to blame himself. He turns away from his friends, his girlfriend, Keisha, and his family. Andy changes negatively after the car crash; he becomes insecure, he closes up his feelings, and he turns emotionally weak.
On average, 1 person commits suicide every 16.2 minutes(Do Something). The song 1-800 by Logic sets a scene of a boy who goes through life and struggles with being gay, bullied, and suicidal thoughts. Which leads to a call to the 1-800 suicide hotline. The video takes a turn and ends happily with the main actor being married and surrounded by family and friends. The main point that this song displays is that suicide is a real problem and it portrays that through stressing the importance of accepting everyone. My main points in this paper are the content of the video, the sound and pace, how this piece affects today’s society, what modes of persuasion are used.
McGuire is a famous songwriter and has been very successful through his song Eve Of Destruction. The poet's purpose of this poem is to connect to the readers that war is important and that we should cherish the world and what we have. Instead he is shameful that we don’t care. Therefore McGuire wants us as readers to realise and be thankful of the pain and suffering that people went through who fought for us and our countries. This poem has a big impact not just on McGuire himself but on the readers, as they are now aware of what is happening, and can be thankful of the freedom they have. Eve Of Destruction is very successful as it engages and interacts with the readers through the use of techniques such as metaphor, repetition, rhetorical
So why would the band choose to illustrate such a serious stage of personal development with the nursery rhyme-like style of the song's chorus? Before we get to that, the song's emotional and psychological message must first be examined.
Tears of a tiger is a young adult novel about the struggles of not only being a BLACK teen in a world where WHITE is acceptable, but also the struggles of “teenagehood” and feeling like no one truly understands. The protagonist Andrew (Andy) Jackson goes through a devastating lost at the age of 17, and constantly blames himself. I wish he could have truly found someone to talk/ work through his issues with. He reminds me of myself in a way. I have always grown up in a predominantly white area, and as a young kid it never affected me, or so I thought. I never realized how important it was to have people to relate to that look like you. Going from North Carolina, to Lorain, Ohio, to Cleveland, Ohio, to finally Brunswick, Ohio all in the span of about 7 years, I now struggle with my inner feelings about my skin color and culture.
The song “American Solider” is sung by Toby Keith, a country music artist. The release date of this song was 2003, and it was named one of the hot country songs on the chart in November 2003. The lyrics to American Soldier by Toby Keith explain a soldier's feelings and responsibilities to his family and his country. He wants to be a good husband and father, and to also meet the needs of everyone else. Toby Keith states that he is not a soldier for the money because he is still unable to pay all of his bills, and the glory is not a good reason because it is not always wonderful. He became a soldier because he knows that he has to fight for the future of his family and his country. There are some cons to being a soldier, such as not being able
The Fray is an Alternative Pop Band, which generally does songs that have a sadder tone. One of their hit songs, “How to Save a Life”, is what I have analyzed. The songs overall mood is saddening, but it’s message is very strong. That message is you can’t always help people who aren’t helping themselves. It’s basically about someone trying to help a friend, but he doesn’t exactly know how. Many literary and hidden words and phrases are found scattered across the piece.
We’re all told to work hard in school so that we can get into the best colleges or universities and be successful. However, is going to an Ivy League college really more worthwhile than going to a State University?
In the chorus shows a lot of the motivation in by saying that “you can” or “you could” over and over again. “You can be a master… You could beat the world”. It telling the listener that you can over and over again will make you believe that you can. The singer says “Be students Be teachers Be politicians Be preacher” which kind of shows that you can do what you put
The first song, Roar, relies heavily on figurative language to deliver its message. The three main types of figurative language the song uses includes Simile, Hyperbole, and Metaphor. The type of figurative language that makes up the largest part of the song is Metaphor. These lines really tell the overall story of this song, which is about someone overcoming the struggles and abuse they have faced in their situation and becoming their own champion and hero. To illustrate, each choir in the song includes the same words;
Hyperbole- Throughout my song “Fireworks”, the literacy device Hyperbole meaning excessive over exaggeration has come up mid-way throughout my song when the artist states “Do you ever feel already buried deep six feet under? Screams but no one seems to hear a thing”. This demonstrates a sign of Hyperbole because the artist is showing the emotions she possess when no one is around to listen to what she has to say, causing her to act as if she were dead, buried underground which is just another way of feeling as if no one is there for you. But since the artist described her emotions as being trapped underground, she has simply overemphasized her emotions to produce a greater effect because when an individual feels as if no one seems to hear a word they say, they often feel lost and it may feel as if you are trapped underground but in reality you’re not and being trapped underground feels much worse. This literacy device adds significance to the song as it
The second stanza of the poem can be interpreted in many ways. The narrator mentions his fear and how at one point he broke down in tears. To me, this could mean that he is so headstrong about his hatred towards his enemy that it scares him. He couldn’t possibly be scared of his enemy because it was never mentioned that his enemy threatened him. The narrator then starts crying because he never expected to grow so quickly and instead of yelling about his anger, he develops these tears. Just as the unwanted emotions surface, the good emotions come up just as quickly. The narrator smiling could mean that he wants to mask everything with a smile to show his enemy that he’s doing fine. It could also mean that he’s enjoying how everything is unfolding.
