The most infamous serial killer in modern history, Andrei Chikatilo was born in the Ukrainian part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, on October 16 1963. Andrei grew up through the “Great Ukrainian Famine”, which was when millions of Ukrainians were killed by starvation. The shortage of food caused there to be widespread of cannibalism that was reported during the tragic event. Andrei’s mother would also make him believe of a horrific fictitious story where his older brother was kidnapped and cannibalized. As a child, Andrei was a kid that would be bullied, beaten by his mother, enjoy reading books about torture. Andrei would kill many more after and leave fear throughout the Soviet Union. He often met his victims when traveling from buses, trains, and walks to any place he needed to go. Andrei would kill all his victims in a similar way, which was to lure them to secluded areas and proceed to kill them. Many of the victims had injuries of stabbing, slashing, disembowelment, strangling, battering, mutilation of the eyes, dismemberment of body parts, and cannibalism. Investigation was set and all murders that have occurred would be linked up to one killer. A wide spread team of investigator would theorize a description of the killer and be on the lookout for suspicious people or behavior. Andrei would be seen by an undercover detective trying to lure a young woman away from the bus station which led to an arrest and search. He was found to be in possession of a knife and rope. It was also discovered that had been under investigation for theft and that allowed the police to hold him for an extended period of time. Police also found out about his school teaching history and also that he matched the description from a witness of a man that had interacted with one of the murdered victims. Andrei’s blood was taken to see if it matched with the blood found at some of the crime scenes but unfortunately science was not the best at the time and showed that it was not a match. Andrei was still found guilty of theft and only served 3 months in jail before being released. He would take a short break from killing and then go back on his murder spree. As more victims were being found, it would spark a huge police operation that would have police surveying every area that would relate to all the murder locations.
