Music that captivates me is the kind of music that boasts poetic lyrics ladened in symbolism and a person's innermost emotions. Picking apart lyrics is something that has always brought me joy, and the more obscure the lyrics, the more room for interpretation, the more I could connect with them. Nowadays in the twenty-first century, we see less and less recognition and fame for our modern day writers and poets, and more recognition for pop culture stars. The attention may have shifted, but the basics are still there, our natural human craving for storytelling remains. I love music for that very reason, for it is in music that our modern day versions of Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman thrive, just with a little embellished musical flair. Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys is one such modern-day poet that has captivated my attention and the attention of countless other hopeless romantics. The lyrics and music that Alex Turner writes bring a fresh take on the rock genre and will hold a place in the rock and roll hall of fame.
The first part of this story establishes the setting, introduces us to our main characters, and provides the inciting incident that will lead into the rest of the story. The initial description of Tom Walker focuses heavily on his miserly tendencies, which indicates right off the bat that these are what will cause trouble for him. The negative relationship between he and his wife is an important factor of their characterization as well, as it shows that Tom is not satisfied with his current life situation and, naturally, will seek something greater when the opportunity arises.
Adam Farmer’s journey to find his identity began the day his family was stripped of their identities. They received new names, new jobs and a new life. On Adam’s expedition from Vermont to Massachusetts, he faced challenges and experienced multiple occasions of self-doubt. The many tapes that consisted of sessions with a man named Brint about “Adam Farmer’s” past were undated, resulting in the uncertainty of when they were recorded. These tapes contained information the government was searching for and were later on locked away in a government building for an unknown amount years. “The state has not produced one iota of medical evidence to the effect that the crime Tom Robinson is charged with ever took place.” That is a quote from the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, said by Atticus Finch himself. Tom Robinson is, without a doubt, not guilty of even laying a finger on Mayella Ewell. And yet, there is substantial physical and testimonial evidence that someone else- quite possibly Mayella’s own father- is indeed guilty. Moreover, every witness testifying against Tom Robinson had extremely contradictory accounts of what happened. Some may argue that Tom Robinson had to reason to be at the Ewell residence in the first place unless to commit the crime, but his own testimony disproves this theory several times over.
Names are important to us, as we grow up, our names and our personalities become intertwined, they are how people identify us. So when we adopt a new name, even for a brief period of time, we allow ourselves to essentially become a new person: we can change what we didn’t like about our old selves, and assume new characteristics that we admire in others. For some, it is freeing to embrace a new name, but for others it is comforting to go back to their old one.
In 1956 John F. Kennedy published Profiles in Courage where he highlighted Senators who risked their careers to take a stand for what they believe in. The late President wrote,

What is your idea of art? Art can be made in many different styles from Earth art made with sticks and stones to a beautiful painting. You can also make art from scraps such as broken tools. These are all different kinds of art, many artists are known for certain kinds of art.
There should be no room to clone any human being nor animal. There is so much more to find out about our world then to test the non-achieved and inefficient process of cloning. Therefore I am against any type of cloning, whether therapeutic or reproductive. Andy vidak I write to you this letter, to give you a better understanding of why funding for cloning would set us back as a society. Genuinely I care about our future because I want our generation to be known as the one who did brilliant things. The excuse that cloning can potentially result in medical breakthrough is unacceptable because, like president George W. Bush said in his 2002 speech about human cloning, “We can pursue medical research with a clear sense of moral purpose.” (Office of the Press Secretary par. 12). Research cloning would contradict the most underlying principle of medical ethics, that no human life should be exploited for the convenience of another. For that reason I stand by
