Animal Abuse In America Government data on domestic violence cases reveal a staggering number of animals are victimized by abusive partners each year. The HSUS estimates that nearly 1 million animals a year are abused or killed in connection with domestic violence. Do you believe animals have feelings like us human? Do you think they know when they are getting abused? All around the world there are hundreds, maybe thousands of ways animals get abused, mentally, physically and emotionally. Innocent creatures put on this earth for our happiness, for our food for our amusement are getting abused from the humans cruel ways of life. There are many animals around the world crying out for help, hoping for deliverance from the cruel animal abuse …show more content…
At first glance such cases may seem less egregious than a single, brutal act of violent abuse, but severe neglect can men extended periods of extreme suffering resulting in permanent injury or death. Most household animals get neglected easily, because since they are so dependent on their owner they would need the same care to stay on track in order for them to stay alive and well as they previously were, but say if the owner was to stop feeding that animal or to stop giving the animal water. That animal would most likely die of starvation or dehydration. Most people don’t understand the affect humans have on the animal kingdom, although we may not know it the human species plays a huge role on the well-being of animal lives. When an animal is locked up in a cage all day that animal may become depressed, yes animals do have feeling like humans also. They can easily starve themselves as well as humans can. Also their bows may become backed up with waste affecting their stomach which could also kill them. Pets or any animals that could be left of chains all …show more content…
It is against the law to be cruel to or harm animals, even your own pets. It's also called animal abuse, or neglect. As if starving animals wasn’t enough there are cruel people whom actually beat poor innocent animals, just for the joy of knowing they have power or an animal’s life. Just because they know they can, and the animal can’t fight back and most likely one hundred percent of the time the animal doesn’t even know why it’s getting beaten on, it’s so sad how cruel and monstrous the human species can
But those animals will never be the same as they were before. They may have trust issues against people, or they may hide in dark corners because they are still terrified that the people who are now caring for them will still harm them. Now you may be thinking “ well they are just animals “ but they have feelings too. If the government were to take you away and lock you in a cage with as much food as you need to not starve to death. You would be miserable but on top of that they are also testing on you with things that could do a variety such as burns, sickness/disease, and in some cases
Murder and abuse cases never fail to startle society. Moral codes are flouted with unmatched rigorousness by these indubitable egregious crimes. Sufferers in these cases are often people. Nonetheless, these callous obscenities should not be seen as less important when animals are the victims. Animals undergo horrendous abuse due to barbaric individuals, greed, and unnecessary lab testing.
Children who live in homes where animal abuse is present are often abused themselves and unfortunately, sometimes carry on with the cycle of abuse later on in life. “More than 80 percent of family members being treated for child abuse also had abused animals. In one-third of the cases, a child victim continued the cycle of violence by abusing a pet (“The animal abuse home violence connection”, 2013).”
The people know about Michael Vick that he was the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles and played for 13 seasons in the National Football League (But there is another story that Michael Vick has been involved in dog fights and went to prison for the actions that committed). That does not cover on what had happened to the dogs,Donna Reynold’s had said in details that the swimming pool was used for kill some of the dogs as she continues, the people did not know how many suffered the permitted murder, but the damage of pool walls tells a story. Michael Vick did not just put dogs to fight, but he would hang, drown, shoot, repeatedly slamming their head and spine into the ground
Animal abuse can be a precursor to future crimes. Experts have conducted hundreds of studies about the connection between human on animal crimes and human on human crimes. They have determined that people who abuse or neglect their animals tend to move to other crimes as the abuser ages. If people watched these animal abusers they could see the signs that they might commit future crimes. There is a link between murderers and animal abusers. These killers tend to start early; their first victims tend to be the stray cat in their neighborhood or even their neighbor’s dog. Murderers tend to stick to animal victims until they do not get enough pleasure from them and move to larger targets. Child abusers and those who abuse their significant other tend to be the people that hit and kick their pets for no particular reason other than for their own
Movies, TV shows, circuses, and illegal gatherings in an old car garage are all places that animal abuse has taken place for the entertainment of humans. Since the 1900’s movie producers have been using animals in their productions (Dugas). Inhumane and unnecessary, are just two words that describe animal abuse, the use of animals for human entertainment is cruel and injustice.
What is animal abuse? For starters, animal abuse is when a person inflicts suffering or harm on any animal. Most people, all over the world own an animal; but there are still far more animals left out on the street. Homeless animals are either left out on the streets or are “thrown” into shelters. This became a problem because not all animals are domesticated. Animal shelters began as pounds. “When the system began to be used to impound wandering dogs and cats, these animals were often killed because little monetary value was placed on them” (Lila Miller, Animal sheltering in the United States: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, 1) . This issue persists because shelter workers and others truly believe that an animal life has no value, but that is not true; animals are living beings just like humans with brains, hearts, and bones. A reported case was that “authorities had seized 23 puppies, 11 cats, and four adult dogs from a self-processed animal “rescue” after they were found in the “rescuer’s” filthy home.” (‘No-Kill’ Label Slowly Killing Animals, 3). This means that an unauthorized person hoarded many animals and forced the animals into an unsafe “shelter”. The shelter being a dirty home.
There are many different things that fall under the category of “cruelty”, neglect and abuse being the two main subcategories. The most common type of animal abuse involves dogs, Pit-bulls in particular. In 2007, of 1800 media-reported cases of animal cruelty, 64% (1,126) involved dogs, 18% (337) involved cats, and 18% (337) involved other animals. Some of the most common places where animal abuse occur are, in no particular order: fur farms, dog fights, laboratories, races (both Greyhound and horse), slaughterhouses, and puppy mills. Some less thought of forms of animal abuse are crush videos, traditional Chinese medicine, the cat/dog meat trade in Asia, the ivory trade, trophy hunting, and even shock collars. Abandonment is the leading form of animal cruelty. (See illustration.)
First, animals can become violent after being abused by their owner. For instance, Seth says, “8% of animal cruelty cases involving animal beating.” Many animals learn habits from their owners, so if their owners have violent tendencies it is more likely that the animal will pick up those violent tendencies. Secondly, animals can also become shy and non trusting towards new people after one owner abandons them. For example, college towns like Ruston animals are often abandoned right before summer break begins. This happens each year, so an animal can often be abandoned more then once in its life time, leading these animals to develop trust issues. Michelle stated, “Seeing the same animal come through the shelter several times is not unheard of but it does make it harder to place them each time they come in.” The animals become more introverted towards strangers each time they come through shelters, making finding them loving homes that much
Increased awareness regarding animal cruelty would benefit society, pet owners, and animals themselves. When a problem is identified, it becomes easier to work out solutions. Animal cruelty is an issue on a global scale; animal torture and neglect does not only exist in the United States. Animal cruelty is the “crime of inflicting physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, usually a tame one, beyond necessity for normal discipline. It can include neglect that is so monstrous (withholding food and water) that the animal has suffered, died or been put in an imminent
The origin of the association between animal abuse and domestic violence remains unclear as do the factors that make the connection. This connection between the cruelties could be better understood in a larger context of the human-animal bond. “The evidence demonstrating the importance of the human-animal bond in human functioning and well-being will make the strong relationship that many battered women have with their pets understandable” (Domestic Violence and Animal Cruelty). Animals are a part of the home environment of humans. The bond shared between women and their pets make it possible for abusers to control women by abusing their pets. “The link between animal abuse and women
Animal Cruelty is described as “the deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal” (Miller, 2016). The maltreatment of animals in society today is an issue that is continuously addressed without much actual change. Laws are established but not fully implemented to those who break the law. Some of the most common forms of animal cruelty include dog fighting, puppy mills, horse slaughtering, neglect, and animal experimentation. Dog fighting is a common form of gambling in the United States where dogs are forced to fight each other for the entertainment and profit of the spectators. It is considered a felony in all 50 states; however, it continues to be an ongoing issue in the U.S. and internationally. Behind the actual dog
The different types of animal abuse varies but the main one that everyone knows of is dog fights. People think that dog fights are fun, exciting, or just a thrill, but when you start fighting the dogs and making them aggressive, that prevents them from finding a loving caring home. When a dog fight gets busted and they get all the dogs out of there it would be hard to find them a home because of their aggression. This is sad because this more than likely means that they will have to put the dog down. I honestly do not agree with putting the dog down. Sometimes they do not want to put in the effort to make the dog better so they just take the easy way out and just put the dog down.
For years people have been abusing animals. So much so, that there are commercials and organizations dedicated to stopping the abuse of animals. It seems like everyday we turn on the news and hear stories of a person burning a kitten or someone shooting a puppy, but why do these people feel the need to do that to these helpless animals? Is there something deeper than just animal abuse? The types of animal abuse these helpless victim faces are similar to the same type of abuse children face. Animals are sexually abused, physically abused, neglected and even psychologically abused, but it does not seem to be taken as seriously as human abuse. Domestic violence, school shootings, murders and other forms of violence are also topics that seem to come up far too often in everyday life. These criminals that have committed heinous crimes against humans all got their start somewhere, and for many of them animals were where their abuses started. This paper will discuss what animal abuse is, how animal abuse and violence are linked, how people evolve into the criminals they are today through some sort of animal abuse, the warning signs of future abuse, and how we can help these mentally ill individuals.
Unfortunately today there are many cases of animal abuse happening around the world. Animal cruelty or animal abuse can be defined as the infliction of suffering or harm upon animals for purposes other than self-defense. There are many different types of abuse such as using animals for research, using animals for entertainment purposes, abandoning animals to shelters, and animal neglect. We need to raise awareness and find a solution to these issues. Animals are suffering and we need to help them.
