Animal Farm By George Orwell

Better Essays

Animal Farm is a book written by George Orwell in 1945. It was made into an animated movie in 1954. It is an allegory about real life political situations that have occurred around the world. In this essay I will discuss how it relates to actual political circumstances, how particular techniques were used in the film to enhance the meaning and comparison of real events, how Farmer Jones ruled, how the animals proved their resentment towards Farmer Jones, how their communist system operated, how egotism took over Napoleon, how he was biased towards the pigs, how the system fell apart, how corruption occurs, what a fair society could look like and how it could potentially be achieved.

The historical background of this novel is the Russian Revolution of 1917 which introduced communism as a new form of government. All of the characters represent a figurehead from the path to the creation of communism, such as Farmer Jones, who reflected Tsar Nicholas II. Some animals represented a group of people, such as Boxer, who played the part of the working class people that tried really hard to complete their given task and sustain the current communist situation against all of the odds. These were the people who were forgotten and weren’t properly recognised for all the work they did. Their endurance was what made communism possible and in some cases, successful. The idea of communism was excellent, but the execution of it was worse. Communism was not a popular concept.
