There are various animal products used for animals. Products used for animals are silk, cashmere, and other animal products. Silk is the fiber that silkworms interlace to make cocoons. A silkworm is a trained insect, in nature, that goes through metamorphosis. Silk is derived from the cocoons of larvae. Approximately 3,000 silkworms die to make every pound of silk. The second animal product is cashmere which comes from goats underbellies. The goat that has cashmere fur is commonly kept on farms where they are dehorned and castrated and have their ears notched without anesthesia. While on the farm young goats are killed 50 to 80 percent of the time for not having the coat that meet standards. ("Silk, Cashmere, Shearling, and Other Animal Products Used for Clothing."PETA. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Jan. 2015.)
There are lots of ways people use animals for entertainment. For example people use animals as entertainment by dogfighting, cockfighting, and also captivity. Dog fighting is a type of blood sport, usually well-defined as conflicting two game dogs against one another in a pit or ring for the entertainment of watchers, or the fighters also called dog men. Dog fights are often in rural areas held in barns or outdoor pits, in urban areas, fights can take place in garage, basements, back alleys and more. Dog fights mainly last until one dog is declared winner which occurs when one dog fails to scratch, one dog dies or one dog jumps out the pit. The loser if not killed in the fight,
It is no secret that millions of animals a year are used for medical experimentation. One study “found the number of animals tested rose from 1,566,994 in 1997 to 2,705,772 in 2012” (Casey). It is my belief that researchers use virtue theory to defend their experimentations. While animal activists approach experimentation through the ethics of care. I am against animal experimentation, but I will also provide insight into why people believe it is ethically just.
Imagine that Christ meant these words literally. Imagine that accepting Christ as your personal savior required lunching with him. Of course, if Christ were coming over today for lunch, you would probably dust, vacuum, adjust the pictures on the walls, pick your best outfit, comb your hair, jot down a few questions about heaven. But what would the two of you eat? Would you serve Christ fried chicken? How would you feel about setting a plate of steaming, sizzling pork chops in front of your savior? A few hard-boiled eggs wouldn't hurt, right? Maybe a glass of milk to wash it all down?
Movies, TV shows, circuses, and illegal gatherings in an old car garage are all places that animal abuse has taken place for the entertainment of humans. Since the 1900’s movie producers have been using animals in their productions (Dugas). Inhumane and unnecessary, are just two words that describe animal abuse, the use of animals for human entertainment is cruel and injustice.
Animals are much more complex and innovative that should be given more credit than it should be. Now learned about the animal feelings exist, human could be too cruel in using their survivor coat, fur, for expensive souvenirs or fashion runway. The Born Free USA organization expounds in 50 million violently killed animals for fashion every year. Fur is believed to get from meat production, but ¨fur comes from animals who are factory-farmed or trapped purely for fashion.¨ Animal furs are obtained through gassing, electrocution, or neck breaking in traps. Imagined a full house of fully coated species trap in a cramp factory house, the animal of intelligence are thought to be under humane treatment, but the fashion factories say differently. Rifkin support of animal is simply a moral principle that every human should have instead of thinking as a superior intelligent
Most of us think nothing about using non-human animals for their meat, milk, or skins and not only do we use animals in these ways, but using them as we do almost always harms them. A common method for testing cosmetics, for example, involves restraining rabbits and putting the product into their eyes, leaving it for a set amount of time and then washing it out and checking for adverse reactions.
are not able to give consent for this as would be required of a human. Other
“ Humans have long used animals for a variety of purposes. For hundreds of years, people have hunted for food and clothing. Between 10,000 and 18,000 years ago, humans began to domesticate animals such as dogs, goats, sheep, and chickens as beasts of burden and as food,”(Encyclopedia). Despite animal cruelty humans have used animals to recognize there beauty by painting them in all different types of looks creating master peaces all through history.
Humans use animals for their own entertainment: “Dancing bears were commonly made to perform in Eastern Europe and southern Asia and although this cruel practice is dying out, it persists in a few places” (Hoare and Jackson 45). Humans may think they are doing the best for the animal, but in reality they’re ruining its life.
There are many different tests that are performed on animals. According to The Humane Society of The United States (n.d), “it is estimated that 500,000 mice, guinea pigs, rats, and rabbits suffer and die in these tests every year throughout the world.” 500,000 innocent animals are used to improve cosmetic company’s products. One example of a test performed on animals are skin irritation/corrosion. According to the Humane Society of The United States (n.d.), “The test substance is applied to the shaved skin of a rabbit. Their skin may show signs of redness, rash,
The second reason is because the person may not even be aware of hunting the animal(s). Sometimes when an animal does something it should not of, that person may think that punishment (ex. Hitting) And intimidation are the best/most efficient way to solve problems. Sometimes a person may not be able to provide fully for their animal. The naima may not be getting enough food, medicine, or even love. Because the owner can not afford to pay for the needed supplies. An animal can also be neglected by not getting enough love (as mentioned) and/or attention. Mental abuse to animals is just as bad as physical abuse. Animals have feelings too. Having an animal is very similar to having a child. A child needs love and needs to be happy. In order for an animal to be happy, it needs to feel love from its owner, Without it, an animal may be aggressive, or depressed even. For the entertainment part of things, for example there are forced dog fights, where two dogs (Most common dog to be put into a fight is a Pitbull.) will be put into a small area (a room or a pen) and fight. Before the fight begins, people will make bets on who they think which dog will win. In the beginning the fights start off with two living dogs, but in the end only one living dog remains. The dog that is living is the winner. After the fights over, the money would be collected and the whole process would
Deer, elk skin, pig skin, lambs, horses, goats, and the famous alligators and crocodiles are just a few of the animals used for these products. Although, the animals are not alive when they are skinned down still does not make it okay. The animals are put to sleep in order for them to do this. Also, it probably wouldn’t work if they were alive because the animals would try to run. Believe it or not, cats and dogs are used for their skin in Asia for products that are sold to the United States (Is It True That Some). The clothing company Gucci announced they would stop selling fur products in 2018. This is huge news. All fur and leather products coming from animals fur and/or skin should be banned worldwide.
Eight, Southern Illinois University-owned, cecally-cannulated horses, two males and six females, ages 5-8 years old, and weighing 1082.50 ± 79.41, up to date with vaccinations, and in good dental health were used in this study. Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (Protocol 13-070 amended) approval was obtained prior to the initiation of this study. All research was conducted at Southern Illinois University Equine Center, Carbondale, Illinois. Each horse was removed from grass pasture at approximately 1400 h and placed in separate identical 10 × 12 ft stalls with ab libitum access to water and a salt block. Each horse was offered five pounds of pelleted grain (Strategy® Purina Mills, St. Louis, Missouri) and two flakes of mixed grass hay.
There are many types of animals used for entertainment such as circuses, dog fighting, zoos, and rodeos. All of these types of entertainment are not natural for these animals which is a form of abuse. Often times they are wild animals that don’t belong in cages and are not able to do things that are in their instinct to do. This is especially true about zoos and circuses. Animals are not able to roam free and instead kept in small cages. Even in optimal settings experts say that it is difficult to provide for the needs of wild animals.(Lemonick) Children should learn to respect animals and not see them as entertainment. People should only support animal free circuses and raise awareness how animals are abused for entertainment.
The subject of animal testing in cosmetics has been a never-ending debate between those who approve, and those who disapprove. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defines cosmetics as "articles intended to be applied to the human body for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance without affecting the body's structure or functions."; this includes eye and facial makeup, skin cream, perfume, lipsticks, nail polish, moisturizers, shampoos, deodorants, scrubs, and any item that enhance one’s appearance. In the world of cosmetics, companies live up to the potential of satisfying their consumers’ needs and wants by testing their latest products on animals. The purpose of testing products on animals is for the
Non-human animals are given rights only because of their interactions with human beings. Without involvement with humans, animals do not deserve rights. It is through this interaction with humans that animals are even given moral consideration. We do not give rights to a rock simply because it is a creation of Mother Nature, similarly non-human animals do not have rights unless it is in regards to humans. As pointed out by Jan Narveson "morality is a sort of agreement among rational, independent, self-interested persons who have something to gain from entering into such an agreement" (192). In order to have the ability to obtain rights one must be consciously able to enter into an agreement, non-human animals are
