Do you think about what happens to the animals in laboratories that are being tested on? Would you want to have an ear on your back or be trapped to a table still alive, but are getting cut into without anesthesia? Would you like to be forcibly killed by carbon dioxide asphyxiation, neck breaking, decapitation and other horrible acts? I know you wouldn’t want to go through pain and suffering so why should the animals have to do it. Which side are you on, the people that says it is animal suffering or the side that says it is experimentation that uses animals to benefit humans?
In the United States over 25 million invertebrate has been used for testing yearly, and that is just for the U.S alone. The animals that are used in these labs are rats,, fish, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats, dogs,, and non-human primates (monkeys, and in some countries, chimpanzees). Scientists use animals to test cosmetics, drugs, pesticides, household products, and industrial chemicals just to name a few. An example of animal

Paul Furlong, Professor of Clinical Neuroimaging at Aston University (UK) states that “It’s very hard to create an animal model that even equates closely to what we’re trying to achieve in the human.” So practically, since animals are so different it is harder to use them as test subjects. Also, not all drugs and medicines that pass animal tests are safe. The 1950s sleeping pill thalidomide, caused 10,000 babies to be born with deformities was tested on animals and acted fine. It was tested again on animals and caused no major harm unless it was given in high doses. Sometimes drugs that were bad for animals were good for humans such as aspirin. That is another reason why animals shouldn’t be relied on to give accurate results if it is going to be used on humans and not on other
Throughout history, animal experimentation has played an important role in leading to new discoveries and human benefits. However, what many people tend to forget are the millions of animals that are tortured or killed during the process of these painful, deadly experiments. Many people seem to misunderstand animal nature and the laboratory procedures and techniques that are executed on the animals. The procedures are cruel, unreliable, and harmful. Luckily there are more humane alternatives that have also proved to be less expensive.
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” (Mahatma Gandhi). Scientists have been using animals for biomedical research for centuries. They provide a source to get information scientists can not get without harming humans. A lot of debate is spread about whether it is good or bad. Animal experimentation is a controversial topic because it is helpful to humans, but it is also cruel and inhumane.
For centuries humans have dedicated their time and research to animal experimentation. A large number of these animals are being utilized and taken from their homes involuntarily. They are abused, mishandled and harmed for our own benefit to create products such as cosmetic supplies, vaccines, and medication.
92% of all drugs have failed because they don't work or they're either too dangerous (animal testing). Animal Experimentation is the use of animals to test human products such as drugs/medication, cosmetics items, shower/bath soaps and lotion, etc. We need to enforce the NO animal testing law because it’s inhumane, we have other technology, and anyway 9 out of 10 tests fail.
Imagine just waking up one day being stripped of your home, children, food and everything you own. You’re in the dark and all of a sudden these bright, intense, fluorescent lights flick on. A very large, unfamiliar looking menacing figure approaches you and prods you with needles and all sorts of drugs. Your barely fed and you're stuck here for the rest of your life. Now what if I told you that already happens today in the year 2017. These “people” i'm talking about are poor defenseless animals that have to go through these horrible conditions every day just for an experiment that might not even work. All animal testing should be banned, even if such testings would save human lives because, the process is painful, you’re endangering a species and haven't all cruel despicable nations tested on not only humans but also animals.
Should animal testing be a research method in today's society? This has been a rising topic of today’s society, especially in the United States. Many would support this question as it has been used as a research method for scientific and commercial products to ensure safety for humans when they receive the final product. However, others would argue against animal testing due to its immorality of the researcher’s actions towards the animals as well inaccurate results received from the studies. While animal testing has benefited medical science in the past, but using animal testing today is seen to many as cruel and inhumane due to the rise of alternative testing strategies that result in fewer expenses and less damaging to animal kind.
Animal testing, also known as animal experiments and in vivo testing, is the use of non-human animals for experimentation. It is estimated that between 100 – 150 million vertebrate animals, including mice, rats, birds, fish, rabbits, guinea pigs, farm animals, dogs, cats and non-human primates, are used in animal testing annually worldwide. This staggering number does not reflect the millions of vertebrates in the United States that are excluded from the Animal Welfare Act (AWA)*, and therefore not required to be reported. Additionally, between 50 – 100 million invertebrate animals are used in animal experiments annually.
Also animal testing normally will not yield the same results it would on humans. (Zurolo 3) Not only that, animal based tests take too long & are expensive on average. One such case where a drug was safe for animals but not for humans was a drug called Vioxx. In 2005 ,researchers found the drug had a heart protective effect in mice & other animals but the exact opposite in humans and caused heart problems. Once they found out that it caused heart problems in humans they ignored this very fact and instead pointed to the animal tests insisting it was “safe” and the evidence is there. (news -
Animal testing isn’t something that’s new and unheard of, it has been around for centuries. Using animals for research testing is not only being done in the U.S but also all over the world. What many people don’t understand is that these tests don’t just involve cute, little mice and a maze with a block of cheese at the finish line, it is long days of just sitting in a small cage with little food waiting to be chosen for the next terrifying and painful experiment. It is a harmful and cruel way of testing medicines, surgeries, and other products, to see if it may or may not be safe to use on humans. Unnecessary animal testing is killing thousands of animals every year, it is time to use alternatives for testing purposes instead.
Cages against the walls, dim lights flicker down the long hallway. Sounds of screaming animals leave your ears as you enter the lab. This is how animals would see the world and their lives at the hands of the men in white. Millions of animals enter the labs every year. Animals don't deserve the experimentation, the operations, and the obvious statistics in front of us.
At dictionary.com, animal testing is defined as the use of non-human animals in research and development projects for purposes of determining the safety of substances such as foods or drugs. Some scientists used/use animal testing to save lives, although animal researchers are known to abuse other’s good works by utilizing animals for “analysis”. The general public and animal right activists have been trying to get researchers to properly justify these actions for decades. Over one hundred million dogs, cats, and rodents are scorched, crippled, poisoned, and battered in United States labs every year. Therefore, animals should not be used in the study or testing the safety of the unnecessary cosmetic and household items.
It is estimated that 25 million animals are used to conduct product testing for human use. These product testing’s can range from the shampoo we use to our medicine. There are many alternatives to inhumane and cruel tests done on defenseless animals. Banning the testing of products on animals in the U.S. would end the suffering and wrongfulness towards animals.
Animals are the most used thing to test products on. Animals used everyday to test products damages them mentally and physically. Animal suffer every single day from inhumane testing. Some of the testing that they do is on wild caught primates. Animal shouldn’t be tested on because it’s inhumane to do and is injuring the animals.
Imagine you are a rat. You are pulled out of your families cage and onto a cold metal table held there firmly by a strong white glove. He pulls out a vial and its has this weird looking liquid inside. You hear the sound of plastic being ripped off of something he holds whatever it is above the vial. Slowly he extracts some of the liquid from the bottle. He pulls you closer to the strange thing that has the liquid in it. You try to escape but quickly he jabs a the needle into your back you squeal in pain. The guy with the white gloves sets you pack in your cage with this smirk on his face. A couple days go by and you are terribly sick. The next day you fall asleep, your family tries to care for you. But its no use you end up dying. That’s what happens to animals that are being tested and some of the tests fail, it’s not the only way for a cure, and it is costly. Animals should not be tested on!
Observation and experimentation are how we as humans have been able to learn more about ourselves and the world and universe we live in. One of the most common methods of experimentation is animal testing. However, there are controversies surrounding animal testing. There are some that believe animal testing to be cruel and overdone, advocating for the eradication of the practice and further reliance alternative research methods. Groups like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and other animal rights advocates fall in this category. There are some that believe animal testing to be an invaluable resource and should continue, such as some scientists and research groups. However, there appears to me to be a consensus that is closer to the middle: the belief and understanding that while there are benefits to animal testing, there are flaws in the practice and there should be changes to increase its efficacy while we simultaneously explore alternate testing methods. Many scientists and the National Institute of Health (NIH) subscribe to this idea. I aim to explore the benefits, problems, and implications of animal testing in order to reach a more informed conclusion about a position that is most validated by the information I have used.
