Animal Testing Required

Animal testing is a common practice in current life that is necessary to ensure the safety of the humans that will be using the tested product. There are many good and bad aspects of animal testing, but the pros clearly outweigh the cons. Animal testing has been around since ancient times when animals were dissected to gain knowledge about the body and organs. The animals killed from animal testing make up a tiny percentage of the total animals killed every year. When just considering the animals used for food compared to the animals used for testing, testing animals make up a mere 2.6 percent of that number. Public safety far outweighs the lives of the small amount of animals killed.

The harmful use of animals in experiments is not only cruel and inhumane but also often ineffective. Animals do not get many of the human diseases that people do, such as major types of heart disease, many types of cancer, HIV, Parkinson’s disease, or schizophrenia. There have been past occasions where drugs passed on animals weren’t even safe. There is no excuse for animal testing in today’s techy world, there are now many alternatives for animal testing that would put an end to the pain and suffering endured by these innocent animals during human testing.

The term “animal testing” refers to procedures performed on animals for the benefit of humans. An estimated 25 million animals are tested on each year in the United States for scientific and commercial testing. It is used for biomedical research, medical usage, behavioral research, cosmetics, and the list goes on. Research on living animals has been practiced since at least 500 B.C. Many argue that animal testing is necessary for research, but with the medical technology we have today, this has been proven incorrect. The cost of animal testing is hundreds of thousands per year in the U.S. Animal testing is cruel and should not be allowed because it is abusive, expensive, and there are substitutes.

Supporters of animal testing might say that the tests help find new research that gets us one step closer to curing many diseases but they are misguided. Research shows that animals have different structure when compared to human beings making them poor test subjects. Animals have significantly different anatomic, metabolic, and cellular differences that make it hard to compare to humans. This fact proves that animal testing will get us nowhere in curing or helping humans in any way. Studies have shown that it creating an animal model that mimics the human model is nearly impossible . This statement is also false because animal tests may mislead researchers into ignoring potential cures and treatments.If it misleads the researches then it does not make sense for animal testing to still exist. One example of this case is chemicals that are proven harmful for animals but proven beneficial for humans. An estimate of 1.4 million animals die each year due to animal testing. As people we have freedom, choice, and the right to live, however animals have a right to live in a world without suffering just as much as we do. Animals just like humans have emotions, thoughts, and feelings, so what makes it right to test on animals any more than to perform tests on humans? The benefits of testing on animals has still not been proven as the treatments that show promise in animals rarely work on humans. There are also many other options for testing techniques that we can use without performing harmful tests on animals, and finally it's entirely unethical. There are many alternatives overall so it is really still considered ethically right to take the freedom of animals just because we want to do research. There are so many reasons that defend the fact that animals should not be tested for scientific or commercial gain. Testing on animals violates basic animal rights. For thousand of years companies test their products on animals and experiment on them causing horrible effects. These animals are innocent and do not deserve to be treated like this.
