Generally, when innocence is thought of, the first speculation recalled to one’s mind is the thought of pureness and the idea that the specific individual is free from moral wrong. On the other end of the spectrum is the term known as guilt. Guilt is the emotional notion in which one feels that they have compromised his or her own standards in a negative way. In the novel Sarah’s Key, Sarah frequently proves to struggle with both guilt and innocence. These specific themes are put on display when Sarah realizes she is not going back home, the scenario in which Sarah boards the cattle car to the camps, and the tragic event in which Sarah takes her own life.

In Barbara Carey’s poem “Returning to the World,” a girl tries to get away from her troubles by isolating herself on the fire escape. The poem teaches us that in order for a person to understand their problems and become courageous, they must take a break from everything around them. Carey uses metaphor, imagery and personification to express this idea.

World war one was a very big part of our history and the first time all the countries fought. There was 4 main and big reasons of why this happened and those are, Militarism, Imperialism, Nationalism and Alliances. The one cause I think is the biggest or most influential was nationalism, which I hope to prove is right in this essay. Nationalism is something that we still fight with today to see who is the better country. Through this essay I hope to give you some reasons why I think this is the main reason the war broke out.

The war also targets one's innocence and brings about suffering both physically and mentally.

War is something that all countries have been apart of at some point. War, is an awful thing, but it is inevitable and impossible to avoid is many cases. Although, sometimes war cannot be avoided, it is still protested by many people. Many protesters who are also former soldiers; protest war by writing about it using certain techniques of writing. Writers use irony, structure, and imagery to protest war in their writings.

As you have read war is a very different type of world everything is turned around and it confuses people. The author of the book The Things They Carried and the writer of the quote "It has been said of war that it is a world where the past has a strong grip on the present, where machines seemed sometimes to have more will power than me, where nice boys (girls) were attracted to them, where bodies ruptured and burned and stand, where the evil thing trying to kill you could look disconnecting human and where except in your imagination it was impossible to be heroic." relates to each of his stories. World War I, the pointless war. World War I was a war that started with the assassination of an Austria-hungary prince by a Serbian man. Austria-Hungary ended up declaring war on Serbia, a Slavic country. After Russia declared war on Austria to help Serbia many countries joined in after with their alliances. What was the main cause of WWI?

The psychologist Sigmund Freud once said, “Because every man has a right over his own life and war destroys lives that were full of promise; it forces the individual into situations that shame his manhood, obliging him to murder fellow men, against his will.” He initially stated this when he was corresponding with Albert Einstein via letter. This quote is also a great explanation of the events that take place during war that people chose to not recognise. War is terrible, and no matter how hard we try, nothing will change that. Erich Maria Remarque shows us that soldiers have endured dreadfully throughout World War I in his book “All Quiet on the Western Front”. The character in the book, Paul Baumer, endures through the tragedies of war with some of his old schoolmates as well as new comrades that he meets along the way. They survive through all of the tragedies together, but in the end, the war made them lose their friendships as well as their lives. The reality is that war comes with consequences while it destroys people, and there is nothing that will ever be able to change that. The book “All Quiet on the Western Front” shows how war comes destroys people's lives with its consequences through three of its themes: the importance of comradery, the loss of innocence, and the horrors and brutality of war.

War is always the worst tragedy of mankind in the world. We, as human beings, were experienced two most dolorous wars that were ever happened in our history: World War I and World War II. A young generation actually does not know how much hardship the predecessors, who joined and passed through the wars, undergo. We were taught about just how many people died in the wars, how much damage two participations in the wars suffered or just the general information about the wars. We absolutely do not know about the details, and that’s why we also do not know what the grief-stricken feeling of people joining in the wars really is. But we can somewhat understand that feeling through war novels, which describe the truthfulness of the soldiers’ lives, thoughts, feelings and experiences. All Quiet on the Western Front written by Erich Maria Remarque, which takes World War I as background, is the great war novel which talks about the German soldiers ' extreme physical and mental stress during the war, and the hopeless of these soldiers about the “future” – the time the war would have ended.

The book Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosany shows a theme of determination. When Sarah’s family is taken away by French police in the middle of the night, she locks her younger brother in her bedroom cupboard in a desperate attempt to hide him from the police and save his life. Sarah makes a promise to her little brother that she would come back and save him. Throughout this story Sarah is determined to keep this promise in the internment camp, and when she escapes. Although much of her determination brings her joy, it also brings her sadness and despair.

Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay is a work of fiction about a young girl, Sarah Starzynski, who was collected in France during the roundup of Jews in July 16, 1942, when the French police arrested thousands of Jews throughout Paris. The girl and her family were sent to an internment camp where people were held before being sent to Auschwitz where they were executed.

The voice that paints the grim portrait of war and its aftermath was born at the time of World War II. As the Poles, including Wislawa Szymborska, were under control of Nazi occupation, they lost their freedom and were imprisoned in their own country. Wislawa Szymborska’s direct encounter with war has made this poem more credible, as she speaks from truth and experience. She has taken the serious theme of war and expressed

The second reason why I believe that it was right for Russia to enter the World War Two is that Russia should protect and help the rest countries in Europe in order to protect and help themselves. This is Important because firstly the Russians need other armies to help them. According to the reported in Winter War “Russia used 45 divisions each division had 18,000 men so by that reckoning Russia used 810,000 men nearly 25% of the whole of Finland's population. The Russians also used 1,500 tanks and 3,000 planes. When they did fly, the Russians took heavy casualties, losing 800 planes during the war over 25% of the planes used in the war. the Russians admitted that 48,000 of their men were killed and 158,000 wounded.”From this we can see that

According to Judith Butler’s theory, gender is a social concept and not a natural part of being, therefore making it unstable and fluid. Gender identities are produced through what Butler calls “performativity,” the repetitive acts of expression that form and define the notions of masculinity and femininity. These repeated performances are engrained within the heteronormative society and impose these gendered expectations on individuals. In this respect, gender is something inherent in a person, however Butler writes “gender is always a doing, though not a doing by a subject who might be said to pre-exist the deed.” In Olga Tokarczuk’s House of Day, House of Night identity is undoubtedly central to the characters’ stories, specifically the strict social constructs of gender that is snarled with one’s identity. Tokarczuk’s novel presents a mosaic of stories that put into question heteronormative gender roles, while offering an alternative way of existence. Analyzing House of Day, House of Night with Judith Butler’s gender theory demonstrates the characters struggles within the rigid constructions of gender and how some ultimately deal with moving past such restricting expectations.
