Anonymous is an international organization complied of like-minded individuals sharing an extensive knowledge of computation and systematic software (German, 2012). In short, they are hacking activists; people wanting social change who protest by revealing hidden truths. It is known to operate on ideas rather than directions meaning that the individuals involved do not wait for instruction or approval of a task. They do however, have a loosely agreed upon goal- for there is order. There is no granted membership. If one believes to be Anonymous, they are. The self-proclaimed members operate in response to events and scandals and expose what people in power try to conceal. With many operating as one, Anonymous is bringing social justice to corrupt organizations who disguise situations and refuse to meet the needs of the abject population. Through their website, the displayed messages are addressed to the citizens of the earth. This is a form of internet activism that engages and promotes their ideas. Anonymous seeks to make the world better. In “Anonymous- Message to Citizens of the World IV” an idea and goal they have is “to create a legitimate and parallel economy that replaces the existing one”. Thus they have good intentions with their actions. One would think they are an organization set out to cause more chaos to the world, but really they are people who have seen the horrors happen for too long and they want to do something about it. And if one thinks they are the
Anonymous is a serious threat to organization and government websites. They may extortion the government by having the confidential documents and data to be published on website. Because the computer and the internet are inherently insecure and have security flaws, such vulnerabilities become opportunities for anonymous who wish to exploit them. They wanted to bring positive change in the world standing up to what is wrong and being active. They are against the world leaders and wants to fight against corruption and wanted justice for all people and bringing clarity to world’s issues and problems by protecting freedom of
This is similar to the real world, albeit on a smaller scale. When people feel that they cannot be punished by their own actions, they may act in a manner that is generally unacceptable, possibly causing harm to others. This can range from students being disruptive in class because they have a substitute to the illegal production and sale of recreational drugs. This phenomenon can also be observed on the internet, due to the sense of anonymity it provides to people. Therefore, unjust activities can also be found on the internet, ranging from cyberbullying to network-wide cyber attacks. As such, the way people act in the absence of a governing entity in the novel is very similar to how people act in the the real world when they believe that they are anonymous and cannot be punished by
Today most people would tell you that the stocks, pillory and other tools of public punishment are barbaric. We’ve moved passed them, having figured out more humane ways to deal with crime. Why, then, the resurgence of public shaming, namely the mainstream acceptance of the “dox,” which, in its purest form, is the digging up of a target’s personal information—name, phone number, address, Social Security number, familial relationships, financial history—and exposing it online to encourage harassment from others? This practice has gradually been popularized by Anonymous, the amorphous collective of trolls and “hacktivists” that alternately terrorize tween girls and disable government websites.
In the twenty first century, everyone is gluing their eyes to bright screens, and keeping their minds and mouths shut. The public mindlessly releasing information through dangerous domains, like the Internet, poses a great issue. Citizens do not realize where their information can be used and why it is used. This unfortunate circumstance is seen in Peter Singer’s “Visible Man: Ethics in a World Without Secrets.” Although there is a sensation of isolation for the public in this century, there should still be a great amount of openness when it comes to social and political events that involve information, and the ways that data is collected for these purposes.
Tor allows users to surf the net, chat and send instant messages anonymously, and is employed by a large form of folks for each licit and illicit functions. Tor has, maybe, been utilized by criminal enterprises, hacktivism teams, and enforcement agencies at cross functions, typically simultaneously; likewise, agencies among the U.S. government multifariously fund Tor (the U.S. State Department, the National Science Foundation, and – through the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
All this is to say; yes, there are problems with anonymous speech. It leaves the door open for lies and malevolent intentions. But also, shutting that door completely inhibits people to have courage to speak up against injustice or malpractice. Americans need to recognize that freedom to speak openly is under fire… we need to defend all kinds of speech. In the words of Justice Brandies, “The remedy is more speech,” be it anonymous or
In this day and age living in the era of the computer, it has become more mainstream and common to hear of cyber attacks, and crime being committed on the internet. Activism however, has become a prominent way to protest or argue a political view. Using related technologies and the internet have become a vital way for some to share their views. With the rise of the internet, “hacktivism” has become a prominent way for protest groups to express while also promoting a political agenda often related to free speech, human rights, and freedom of information.
The internet is a powerful tool for activists, but can also be utilized by the other side by promoting propaganda and mobilizing their own supporters. Networking sites have revolutionized the way people activists approach revolutions. Moreover, the internet has connected people from across the world and has caused people in the states (like myself) to become invested in a civil war occurring in a part of the world I never knew existed. The internet has empowered and enabled people by connecting like-minded people, providing access to information, broadcasting events, and creating real connections between people. Alone, the internet is not enough to bring down an oppressive, authoritarian state; but when coupled with the power and will of the people, it can create real
They’re calling for hackers everywhere to unite for a common purpose, to bring down Lex Lu-- Donald Trump. Appalled by his divisive ideas and witnessing the looming threat to civil liberty. Anonymous are seeking to rip the legs from under his high horse by revealing to the world who Donald really is, a self absorbed child who's only looking to benefit

Much of public protest in recent Western society has been typified by a decidedly social character—that is, the social movement—the likes of which has occurred on an unprecedented scale in the 20th century. In Gabriella Colman's 2013 paper “Anonymous in Context: The Power and Politics Behind the Mask”, she identifies the group Anonymous to work within these paradigms while acting entirely outside customary limits on candour. Through their absolute commitment to freedom in the face of tyranny—and lulz in response to dictators and oligarchs—Anonymous is a definite force of good against evil, and their intentions a net positive to the world.
December 19 - Anonymous tweets location information for members of the Westboro Baptist Church who are in Newtown, CT to protest the funerals of the victims of the school shootings. The tweets provide real-time updates on the movements of church members such as the fact they were eating dinner at a Burger King and the location of the hotel they’ve been staying at in Newtown. Twitter briefly suspends Anonymous’ Twitter account but then reinstates it. (Perlroth, 2012d; Stone, 2012j).
In todays time just one hacker can infiltrate governments and companies and release mass amounts of private information and details. The secret hacking group, Anonymous is a group of unknown hackers that have recently been hunted down by governments around the world (mainly the US and British). They should not be looked at as “domestic terrorists” but as protesting citizens. Terrorists put fear into people, but Anonymous interests the public. They have even been called “Digital Robin Hoods” (Carter, 2012). Since Anonymous mostly goes after companies and organizations they believe are corrupt or bad, and since they don't do any physical harm to anyone they should not be persecuted and put in jail. They release private information about the websites of companies, religious groups, and governments to show the public who they really are and what they are really doing. They also use a tactic called DDos which is basically where Anonymous overruns a website so much nobody else can then on go on that website. The U.S. government goes after anonymous hacktivists and similar groups but turns a blind eye to pro US/anti Terrorist hackers. A con of what Anonymous does is that when they release private government documents via Wikileaks or different sources, other governments like China and Russia can access the information released which can possibly be threatening to the U.S.
The aim is to tighten political control and get Internet users to censor themselves by bringing them face to face with their censors or their agents.”(Anonymous)
Claimed by its founder to be a non-profit organization/website, Wikileaks was firstly launched in 2006. Some call it an open government group that enables public witnessing (Nayar, 2011; Rosewall & Warren, 2010), while others see it as a representation of a new type of “sovereignty in the global political and economy sphere” (Bodó, 2011, p. 3). The website uses the term “wiki” which was followed after Wikipedia due to its anonymous contributors and
