As Americans, many believe that freedom is a given. It’s been a long time since freedom wasn’t given to all equally Though many government documents say that we have freedom, what is freedom exactly? The dictionary definition of freedom is; the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. I do believe that freedom is never given; it must be demanded, everyone deserves to be given freedom. Freedom is something everyone deserves, no matter what their religious or racial background is. In ‘Baseball's Fernandez, who died in an accident, fought hard for his freedom’ Sun Sentinel talks about Jose Fernandez’s struggle for freedom. “He made four attempts to leave Cuba for the United States before succeeding by boat along with his mother when he was 15.” (Sun Sentinel), as Jose was growing up he had very little freedom while living in Cuba. Sentinel says that Jose would tell David Samson “He always would tell me that: ‘You were born into freedom, you don’t understand freedom really.” (Sun Sentinel), this proves that he had to work hard to get freedom, while ours is just handed to us. …show more content…

Martin Luther King Jr, one of the most inspiring men of our history. Dr. King was treated differently because he was black in a time where that wasn't excepted. King was treated unfairly much like many other blacks, and he took a stand. In King’s speech ‘I have a Dream’ he states, “Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.”(King 48). King believed it was better to peacefully protest, and he did just that. King fought long and hard for the freedom and now all blacks and whites have the same rights and
