Cursory Search The decision to conduct a cursory search of the residence, in hindsight, was deemed wrong because of the lack of manpower, the search provided a false sense of security for the homeowner and ultimately was ineffective in locating the fugitives. This dilemma is a difficult one. The lack of manpower coupled with no evidence placing the fugitives in the residence would have made me rethink conducting the cursory search. The searches being conducted in the neighborhood had one mission and that was to find the fugitives not to give each homeowner peace of mind. The fall of man has resulted in the heart being weak towards sin. Therefore, when parameters are clearly defined, they provide the foundation to know what is acceptable behavior. If boundaries are taught during the formative years, it becomes easier to establish and condone limits in the future. “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6, English Standard Version). Some will argue that the war on the family structure has resulted in a culture that has lost sight of boundaries and acceptable behavior. “Training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age” (Titus 2:12, English Standard Version). The only way to justify giving a suspect an agreement of leniency is if the suspect takes investigators directly to where the missing child is located. “In the past two decades, hundreds of convicted prisoners have been exonerated by DNA and non-DNA evidence, revealing that police-induced false confessions are a leading cause of wrongful conviction of the innocent” (Leo, 2009). For a leniency agreement to be admissible in court, it must be given voluntarily as false confessions are detrimental to justice and public safety. “Many police investigators are trained in use of the Reid technique, a multistep approach to interrogation that is designed to increase the anxiety associated with denial while reducing the anxiety associated with confession” (Perillo & Kassin, 2011). Therefore, there needs to be a fine line in how far to go in a time sensitive situation like a missing person case. Procedures must be in place so interrogators know how far they can use their interrogation techniques to garner evidence. Without these boundaries, justice cannot be
