Pennies are one of America's oldest treasures, but what is ironic about this specific treasure, is that it has no wealth. America’s classic coin the penny, is beginning to prove to be a second-rate coin when it comes to its use. And though many already cherish the coin for its history, the penny proves to be completely counterproductive in today’s society. After debating of whether or not the penny should be extinguished, there is no doubt that the penny is worthless, easily replaceable, and a waste of time. As society continues to up the prices on goods, the penny becomes completely worthless to the modern economic system. In fact, most items, if not all, are completely above the amount range of the penny. In “Abolish the Penny” William Safire writes that, “You can't buy anything with a penny any more. Penny candy? Not for sale at the five and dime (which is now a dollar store)…Any vending machines? Put a penny in it and it will sound an alarm.” Clearly, there is an irony when it comes to “penny” candy, when you can't even use your one cent coin to purchase said sweets. When it all comes down to the bottom line, pennies can't be even remotely used to purchase any goods because of it's problematic value; it’s mostly useless. Even the press secretary, Neena Moorjani, also believes the idea that “the penny is practically useless in everyday society” (source A). blah blah put what needs to be put here cause i have no idea?
